Total War: Shogun 2 is the latest upcoming game in the Total War series by The Creative Assembly and set in 16th century Japan. The new game picks up in 16th century Japan during the aftermath of the Onin War. Shogun 2 is about nine warring fiefdoms. The player takes on the role of one of nine of these warlords, each with a unique starting position and different political and military strengths. The scale is also different in terms of the presentation of the story. Instead of being the impersonal force guiding the destiny of your faction, the player actually plays as a person who has to negotiate the treacheries and loyalties of family politics.[1] One particularly novel development is the re-introduction of heroic generals and units based on mythologized historical figures like the warrior monk Benkei, a feature was previously in Medieval: Total War, and the expansion pack Viking Invasion, but was scrapped and not featured in any later Total War games. The new battle engine will support up to 56,000 soldiers in a single battle,[2] making them significantly larger than in Napoleon, the previous game in the series.
