Translated from famitsu.com also amazing pictures.

April 8 2010, Square Enix began the Final Fantasy XIV Alpha test  for PC and Playstation 3.

How long is the “a” test and schedule of “b” test?

Alpha testing will be only one world and using limited people.  The name of the world is “Shadowlord”.  Testing will be three days a week, 4 hours a day, in different regions (Japan, Northern America, Europe).  This purpose of this test is to test its stability and load factor research.  Then it switches from” a[alpha]” test to “b[beta] phase 1” .  In this test, testers play same version of “a” , but will be multiworld.  “Data wipe” will be happen during the test a~b1 for a test of some 成長速度[impossible to translate]   After a~b1, we will collect clams, opinions, and  problems from testers.  Then move to “b test phase 2”.  This phase 2 will be close to the real FFXIV, and will be everyday for 24 hours.  PS3 test starts during phase 2.  During the  phase 2,  worlds get gradually bigger and bigger.  In this stage, we test load for 100.000+ access at same time, then being ready for “service in”.  At last, testers will play “open b” for a few weeks.  We don’t show areas other than “Limsa Lominsa” until  “service in”.  This size of this “other than Limsa Lominsa” for example, is less than 1/5 of whole world.

Why do we have to resister full name for own characters?

Preventing for over lapping names, and also you can use the name that you used for FFXI.  On the other hand, we are planning not to type full name for  “/Tell command chat” , make the player easier. [you can import your name from your character in FFXI to be your FFXIV characters last name.]

Are there any differences between countries for starting the game?

It’s going to be different stories in different countries.  There are also different characters of cities, facilities, and shops, so that  it’s different how you play in beginning of the game.

What is the purpose and effect of instance area which is used all over the place?

We want FF fans to play “anytime they want”, -- It is also like Guildleves – , so  we designed “instance anywhere”.  In fact,  players don’t need to wait and don’t monopolize. [???]

Are there any monsters which attack from them, some nemesis which are not in scenario , and elements such asits subdue?

Of course everything! However, testers see just few monsters that love to fight, or nemesis in a version, because this keystone of test is not for “monster blocking”. [Nemesis = Boss]

Don’t players have concept of level?

There is “physical level” such as HP, MP, force , and intelligence, but rank of main skill is more important for characters.   Because, it is for exaggerating Armoury system (“class change” when characters change weapons and tools).

It seems like battles became command type.  Is there any time lag using different kind of weapons?

Yes, of course.  Moreover, we have been adjusting its time differences for playing efficiently with a testers.

Square Enix will post report from a testers soon, please be with great anticipation.
