Comic books, anime, & video games. That stuff is all the same nowadays. The LVCE could be the future of Las Vegas' comic book community. Gouki.com is looking forward to this event. >.> There's a cosplay contest, did I mention that?

From the LVCE:

Super heroes are big business today. Any doubters can simply look at the film industry where just 3 movies; Marvel's The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, each debuted in the #1 position the week of their release and in total have cumulatively surpassed the $1 billion gross ticket sales.

Comic book folklore isn't only limited to the big screen, one of the hottest shows is AMC's The Walking Dead, which is based on the comic series, whose #100 issue sold nearly 400,000 copies, making it the best selling comic book of the century.

Where some thought comic book culture was once for nerds, now its part of the mainstream pop culture of today where it's “chic to be geek”. San Diego's Comic Con brings a sellout crowd of over 125,000 attendees every year, which is explosive growth from its origins in the 1970's where less than 1,000 showed up, and now brings in over $60 million in commerce to the local San Diego economy.

About Las Vegas Comic Expo | www.lasvegascomicexpo.com | www.facebook.com/lasvegascomicexpo
Charles Lee, organizer of the Las Vegas Comic Expo stated, "Las Vegas has widely been known as an ideal destination for conventions. In speaking with comic book merchants and enthusiasts, there has been an appetite for such an event for a long time." This two-day event is a pop culture extravaganza touting scheduled appearances of more than 40 of the top names in comic books from the past and present.  This event is spread across 3 exhibit halls and will be jam packed with exhibitors buying, selling, and trading rare collectibles, enjoying gaming areas, costume contests, entertaining panel discussions, and much more.
The purpose of the Las Vegas Comic Expo is to unite the fans and the celebrities within the comic book hobby world together in a fun, family friendly setting.

There was nothing like this in Las Vegas when I was a kid. So I absolutely want to see this event succeed. There are super big names coming from the comic book world. Guys Choke and I stood in line for for hours at SDCC back in the 90's. It's a Jimmy ass hotel though. We'll have to see how well the environment is and the overall mood. The Animegacon had huge issues with running on time and centralizing all of the action. Super long hallways from the entrance to the vendor's area, are not good. Still had a good time there. ;-)

Check out all of the links above in you're in the Las Vegas and have any ounce of nerd in you, you should be buying your tickets in advance. Right now!

From LVCE:

Please read carefully and tell everyone you know! This is extremely important whether you live in Las Vegas or are traveling to the show from elsewhere!

The Las Vegas Comic Expo will be relocating to a new venue, the Riviera Casino & Hotel, directly located on the Las Vegas Strip.

Due to the flash floods from the recent rain storms, the original hotel and halls located at the Alexis Park Resort was damaged beyond repair, making it unsuitable to house the Las Vegas Comic Expo. Drywall, carpet and a lack of power proved too much to overcome in such a short window, thus making the shift to the Riviera necessary. All tickets issued will be honored and redirected to the Las Vegas Comic Expo at the Riviera.

The Riviera will be an upgrade for you and the Las Vegas Comic Expo. With a greater floor space, the exhibitors and artist alley will be in one large room. The new location at the Riviera will be able to showcase the impressive guest list, while benefiting attendees. Panels and programs will also be improved at the Riviera, with these areas conveniently located adjacent to the main hall. With a food court and short walk to the monorail system, this should make attending the Las Vegas Comic Expo more enjoyable.

The Las Vegas Comic Expo takes place on September 29 and 30 at the Riviera Casino & Hotel. Located on the Las Vegas Strip, The Riviera Casino & Hotel is just a quick shuttle or cab ride from McCarran International Airport (LAS) and only minutes away from downtown Las Vegas and the Fremont Street Experience.

The Riviera is located at 2901 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Las Vegas, NV 89109.

Hard to tell just yet if the Riviera is an upgrade. Good news is Number 6 from Battlestar Galactica has been announced to be there on Saturday.
