a little story about how i was brought up in a video game heavy family.

April 22 1989 edward wayne lewis was born (me) and from the minute i was born i was surrounded by games and gamers. My mom and all my aunts and cousins were hardcore gamers. My earliest memories of games was when i was 2 years old. I remember playing super smash tv and street fighter 2 with my mom......yup thats right my mom was a street fighter (badass). One of my older cousin always tells stories of how she could not believe how young i was playing street fighter with knowledge of how to do the moves. She would explain how she got beat by a small child it always cracks us up.

I have other memories of when i was about 4 or 5 i remember playing super ninja boys in my moms room. Man that game was so fun i would play it with my cousin all the time. I hated the random encounter rate it seemed like you would fight every 4 seconds in the world map.

Fast forward to the N64 era, it was because of my aunt that i even knew what a N64 was. She brought me and my cousins over her house for a few hours and as soon as i walked in the front door there it was. Big screen tv with mario kart 64 playing on it i was really excited because i had no idea what the system was. Back then i didn't have inside info about up coming games and stuff like that. It was also because of my brother that i came in contact with the original smash bros on the 64. I knew of it but that was about it i remember when he first got it i had to get my hands on pikachu i was BIG pokemon fan. One of the most funniest things about it was that we set the time on infinite and the match would never end so we never had a winner and we didn't understand how we know who's winning. My cousin saved the day by trying to put a time limit on the match then we finally understood the game lol. We all would play together me, mom, brother and cousins and it use to get hilariously intense with the trash talk (sigh) those were the days.

On to the playstation era and the start of my RPG obsession. Another one of my aunt's was a RPG fanatic and still is it was because of her that i fell in love with RPG's. She let me play one of her RPG's called saga frontier made by squaresoft look it up its amazing. You could pick between 7 heros and they all had unique stories that only vaguely overlapped meaning u get 7 great individual stories in one game. It really stuck with me and i had to play more games like it which is what set me on this RPG craze. Then my cousin changed my life by putting me on to the tales series by advising me to get tales of destiny 2. Of course i could have caught on one day but by putting me on it at age 12 i was able to grow up with the series which in my opinion is much more satisfying.

My mom was the one who introduced me to the dreamcast. One day i came home from spending the weekend over my aunt's house and i went downstairs and there it was. This little white box i had never seen before my mom was playing it and to my amazement she was playing marvel vs capcom. I had only seen it in the arcade a few times before and once again my mom playing fighting games (badass). So she was the one who help bring me those elusive arcade fighting games that was only on dreamcast at the time.

By the time the PS2 era rolled around they had already molded me into the gamer i am today. Now i am helping create memories for my younger brothers and sisters and cousins. My mom is still a gamer but she has moved on to MMO's but im a console guy all the way. Are you the primary gamer in your family or did you grow up around other older games? Let us know and don't be a jimmy.
