Conduit 2 Opinions Based on an old school gamer.

By: Aragrist Jul 21, 2011 | 238 Views | 4 Comments

I tried to play through this game and couldn't even make it through the first couple parts. I loved the story and voice acting but I had a real problem with the controls.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good game. My problem with it is that I can't seem to get the hang of the control scheme. I grew up playing Golden Eye and other analog based FPS and then stopped playing all together for about 5 years before starting up on the Wii. The idea of a point and shoot interface was always a dream of mine so when I saw this game I got excited. Unfortunately I can't seem to get around the wavy loose constantly moving screen to make any shots. I hope the fault is all on me and that my wii is just not setup properly but I fear it's not the case.

I did watch videos of the storyline on youtube and loved how they played out the story and even the voice acting was pretty good for a wii game. I like just about everything about this game except the controll system. I wish they would allow you to use the nunchuck to look around like in the old school FPS's and the directional pad on the wii-mote to move forward and strafe left and right. If you could revert to that this game would rock for an old timer like myself.

All that said I don't own the classic controller or anything to try and see if that option is available. I heard it is but I haven't checked and I never read instructions because I'm impatient to play the game.

I definitely say rent this game and give it a once over to see if you're up to the controls before putting hard earned cash down.

Graphics I give a solid 4 out of 5

The visuals for wii games are always crap compared to PS3 and Xbox 360 but in this case I feel Sega really took the time to make pleasingly realistic low res visuals that still seem to pop on my 1080p TV. I also love the evironmental interaction with walls and glass and stuff. Remember that the last FPS I played was on the Game Cube and that was a very limited piece of hardware compared to our current systems.

Audio I give a 5 out of 5

Mainly for the voice acting since I love it when a game keeps moving rather than pausing to read people's dialog. Also I just loved the music and sound effects. The audio gave it a good feature film vibe that I dig when playing action shooters.

Controls I give 1 out of  5

I say this only because I couldn't figure it out. I'm sure there are seasoned pros that picked this game up and just blew through it making head shots right and left. I just couldn't master it and it depressed me to finally have what I always wanted in a game and not be able to use it.  Someday I want to sit down with a developer and have them make my vision of perfect FPS controls something that combines elements of analog and D-pad controls with the point and shoot of a light gun game. I just don't want to control my looking around with the point and shoot interface. I want them seperate.

Story I give 4 out of 5

Story for me is the most important thing. I like to read good books and watch deep films and play epic games. I love Final Fantasy VI for instance. Story means everything and this game showed me an interesting tale even though I was unable to make it that far into it or see how it played out. So since I'm basing this on what I saw I give it a 4 because I liked where it was going and also because I don't know where it went. Could of been 5 if I got to see the end but I feel a 4 is fine for what I saw.

I know this review is not much of a review and most will probably shit all over it and call me an idiot which is fine since I am. But since I didn't get far I would love to see comments telling me what I missed.

Thank you.

Conduit 2 Golden Video Review with FnJimmy

By: fnjimmy May 28, 2011 | 388 Views | 8 Comments

Apparently Sega wanted me to review this game so they sent me a free copy. I'm world famous and Sega loves me. Jealous? Hopefully they get what they've paid for me. Watch my review.

When I started this game I couldn't figure out how to open the doors. Therefore the game must be glitched. I talk about it in a couple of times. I had to restart the level and then I found the actual path I was supposed to go down. Now not knowing for sure, if the game was glitch or just my brain. Leave your comments below.  BTW, I don't care.

Thank you Conduit 2 for having one of the best/worst endings

Troll cliffhanger for the win? ----Spoiler Alert for those who haven't beat the game or care about what happens----

Conduit 2, a alright FPS with akward voice acting. this Wii FPS has a very interesting ending before the credits roll. It HEAVILY hints at a sequel and is a little....ridiculous. Funny though. Check out the video below at the 10:13 seconds mark and watch who comes out of the portal. 2 of the men whos faces are focused on should be extremely familiar to you and a bit...strange/badass? See for yourself:

Oh yes, AMERICA! Very TimeSplitters esque don't you think? I laughed when I saw it, then thought it was badass nice, then kinda dumb. Tell us what you think in comments, don't be a jimmy.

cool

The Conduit Review

By: reipuerto Feb 12, 2011 | 257 Views | 8 Comments

Late to the party but early to the finality…

What up Jimmies? Rei here with another exciting review.  This time, The Conduit, developed by High Voltage Software and published by SEGA. But wait, you might be saying, “You Jimmy! That’s a 2009 game! Way to be late!” Well, no. Now is the perfect time to bring more hype to the squeal. Developers at High Voltage Software are an amazing team. More famously known for The Conduit, for the Wii, and soon to be sequel, The Conduit 2. They’re a small time company with a fantastic engine for the Wii. So let’s begin.

Story- You start off as an agent for the government that fights the good fight and lives for apple pie. But you soon find out(Not a spoiler) that you’re working for the wrong cause. You initially work for the “Trust”  group and you’re out to stop a “terrorist” attack. But you find out that the “terrorists” are actually the good guys trying to stop the “Trust” for an alien invasion, really. It’s not bad but not original. Although the story keeps it easy, you won’t get lost in any over the top plot twist. But since there IS a SEQUEL coming out, the ending to the first one is rather short. It leaves with a cliffhanger, which leads to the second one. Like I said, the story won’t win any awards.

Gameplay- This is where the meat is! Since this is a First Person Shooter on a motion controller system, it makes sense that it works… And does it!! There’s an initial learning curve, but once you get over the hump, you’ll be blasting away headshots and alien’s faces off! Smooth controls give you a sense of control of where your shots go. To shoot, point and press B. You can throw grenades by a flick of the nun-chuck. To reload, you press right on the D-pad. As you play the game, your suit gets upgraded to better your chances in victory! To melee, just thrust the Wii-mote forward. Weapons run from the standard to the ‘where’s the ammo to THIS gun?! I’m whooping numbs with one shot!! ’ Majority of the weapons have a primary fire and secondary fire. Some weapons even use motion control to control the direction of the shot! In all honestly, High Voltage Software developed the control style to just about ANYONE! There’s an option to reset the button layout. So it’s a good setup with functional controls for whooping numbs.

Graphic-  I’m not big on graphics, but this game shines as an EARLY Xbox 360 game. With that being said, you’re getting one of the most impressive engines on the Wii. Very well light and shading effects, awesome depth of field and good use of texture. Only down side, the game leads you from one gun fight to another in corridors. It’s not a bad thing, but you’ll see some similar level design and not appreciating the effects that comes with it.

Sound- The human’s weapon sound good. It’s no surround sound but it gets its point across. But the alien’s weapons all sound like they came from a Mattel toy

*Online- (Yes, it gets its own heading) It’s really fun! Like I said before, you’ll be blasting friend and foe with ease, once you get over the hump. Online offers 12 players killfeast on ‘Free-for-all’, but also offered  team base game modes. It has a match making system that will find you in a good position, to me at least. You could use friend codes but you don’t have to, if you don’t want to.  It has seven different maps and 15 weapons and Wii-Speak support, you’re ready to talk smack to those little Jimmies running around going crazy!

Over all- Buy it! The story mode will take you around seven to eight hours to complete and you can play online to further the experience!

*Jimmy Notes(Just in case you skipped straight to the bottom)

Pros;

  • Great controls
  • Great visual effects
  • Awesome online (to this day!)

Cons;

  • Bland level design
  • Could’ve used better story

And don’t forget to check out our previous story on this game and it’s squeal too!
