2010 Jimmy Gem nominees for best games still being played from 2009. Please comment.
Nobody put more time into Borderlands than BatRastered this year. Borderlands also released 2 DLC's and a patch that raised the level cap. Borderlands is one of the most talked about games on Gouki.com. Borderlands catalog page.
Personally I played the shit out of this game this year. I love it! According to Raptr I played 119 hours of this. What it doesn't say is that was within a weeks time span. Read the PWN diaries.
Halo 3 [Jan-Sept]
You gotta be playing some sort of Halo right Jimmy. Halo is Gouki.com's preferred shooter.
Street Fighter IV [Jan-Apr]
"Insert Cinderkin endless battle on endless nights take here."
Winners will be announced December 29th. Did we leave anything out? What's your favorite? Leave a comment below! AND don't forget to vote for your favorites in our Video Game Catalog.
What's the best DLC of 2010? See our nominees here and voice your opinion in the comments.
Borderlands - The Secret Armory of General Knoxx
Nothing mad me laugh harder than this add on this year. Quality humor, plus raising the level cap by 11 and giving us new weapons and shields to play with? Sign me up.
Red Dead Redemption - The Undead Nightmare
John Marston is back (from the dead?) that alone should be enough for this. New weapons and, of course, Zombears make this an exciting new addition. Let's not forget that Rockstar gave us some free DLC for this earlier too.
Halo Reach - Noble Map Pack
Okay, multiplayer map packs aren't super exciting, especially when there's only 3 of them for 10 bucks, but these are really good maps and that counts for something.

Claptrap's new Robot Revolution is coming the 28th. Level 69! UPDATED with scaling info.
On September 28th, you will be able to download both the latest DLC for Borderlands (Claptrap's New Robot Revolution) and a free patch that boosts the level cap to 69. (That's 8 new levels if you already have the General Knoxx, but a whopping 19 if you don't.)
On October 12, you can buy the game and all 4 DLC in the Game of the Year edition for $60. Be sure to check back on Gouki.com for Deals, Jimmy!
It sounds like there will have to be some scalling of the main game to account for this new level cap. Here's hoping we see some level 69 Ass Kicking Skags soon.
I'm a little dissapointed they didn't put this out this week while we are all waiting for Reach, we're gonna be knee deep in the Reach still when this comes out I think... We'll see. More info coming soon!
[UPDATE Sep 7, 2010]
From an employee at the Gearbox forums:
Sorry guys. I was totally exhausted last night after PAX but now I'm on a plane (with Wifi!) and have time to clarify.
-People who do not own Knoxx will have a level cap of 58
-People who do own Knoxx will have a level cap of 69
The main game and DLC's will scale with level. The gear will scale.. Com Decks will be similar though to DLC3 as their item levels are different from others.
Main game and DLC require quests to be completed before enemies begin to scale. Most players will have already completed these when they get to that point.
Crawmermax will also scale to the new cap.
So yes if you play the main Borderlands game and you are 69.. the enemies will scale to 69
I'm almost as excited for this patch as I am for the DLC... More loot!
[UPDATE Sep 28]
Here's the trailer... No word on the patch yet.

The patch has been out for the PS3 and PC since Tuesday morning but was delayed on the XBOX 360. Kinect dashboard to blame?
Title Update 1.41 Notes:
- Level cap increase of 8 levels for all players.
- Original Borderlands players will now be able to achieve level 58.
- Owners of The Secret Armory of General Knoxx can achieve a record setting increase to a maximum level of 69.
- Enemies now scale to new level caps throughout the whole game as long as playthrough 2 has been completed.
- Item drops (with the exception of COM Decks) will now scale to new enemy level caps.
- DLC4 Achievement/Trophy glitches that have affected some users will now properly award players for obtaining these achievements.
Borderlands fans, new and old, will now be able to hunt and kill more in Pandora than ever before with this new free Title Update for Borderlands! Players with the original Borderlands will now be able to achieve Level 58 on all their characters, up from Level 50, while owners of The Secret Armory of General Knoxx can achieve a record setting maximum level of 69, up from 61! Players who have also completed playthrough 2 will now be able to challenge themselves in every place in Pandora! Every enemy and boss will scale to the players level, giving players the chance to enjoy past zones all over again.
The patch was released for the PC and PS3 Tuesday November 2nd, but the XBOX patch had been delayed. Here's the latest update:
Update 5:00pm (CST) 11/3/2010
Roadblocks to releasing the free TU to our 360 fans have been removed, and we expect it to start rolling out within the hour and should be to everyone's 360 by tomorrow morning (11/4 Morning)
No official word on what caused the delay but the smart money is on MS being really busy fixing things with the new XBOX dashboard recently released for Kinect. Yet another reason to hate the Kinect, yeah! Why do you think it was delayed? Leave a comment!
A first-person shooter/rpg on a distant planet in a post apocolyptic setting. With a very unique art style. 4 player co-op ... Lets play this Jimmy!
Borderlands a new game from publisher 2k games and developer Gearbox who worked on Halo CE for the pc and just recently released Brothers in Arms and also worked on Half-life. This new game has a very unique art style it's cel-shaded but very gritty. I like it the colors.
As far as the gameplay, you can select from four different classes. A hunter, he has a sniper rifle. A soldier, he just raips on the ground level. A siren who looks like she has an emp and can boost the parties experience gain. And a berserker who just pounds the shit of things. So yes, a first-person shooter with experience gain. One of the first of it's kind. I'm interested and as the game's release gets closer, I've been paying more attention.
Check out these videos and do some pre-ordering. Gamestop is giving you a bonus weapon exclusive weapon cache. BestBuy doesn't have anything extra for the game.
This game looks fun as hell with four friends online, lets pwn!
Borderlands' 4th DLC and a scaling patch add even more to an already addictive game
I've played a lot of Borderlands since it was released last year. Gearbox has done a great job supporting it and keeping it interesting with DLC. First there was the Zombie Island of Dr Ned. A few good hours of extra game play and some extra backpack space, add in a zombie apocalypse and you're in for a good time. Next was Mad Moxxie's Underdome Riot. I had some problems with this one as it didn't add much beyond a bank to hold some extra gear, but it did give you the opportunity to play against waves of enemies over and over again. The third DLC was The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. Knoxx added 11 levels to the level cap (bringing it to 61) and added a ton of gameplay and new enemies to fight. The Secret Armory will likely be nominated for best DLC this year. We thought this was the end of Borderlands until the inevitable sequel. As it turns out, we got one more parting gift from Gearbox.
The fourth (and final?) DLC is called Claptrap's new Robot Revolution and takes place after the events of the main game. Your friendly robot guide from the game (CL4P-TP, aka Claptrap) has been reprogrammed into an Interplanetary Ninja Assassin! He was supposed to just kill you, but he noticed all his fellow claptraps being “subjugated” and decided to set them all free and start a revolution. The expansion is filled with historical symbolism (Che Guevara and Stalin style posters, but with claptraps instead, references to the robot “proletariat”). Borderlands has always been one of the smartest and funniest games around with this type of thing and the Robot Revolution does not dissapoint.
In his attempt to take over the planet, Claptrap and his buddies have robot-ized all your former enemies from the original game, even bringing many bosses back from the dead. Unfortunately, the robot versions of these baddies don't seem to behave any differently than their “fleshbag” counterparts.
The levels are large and there are lots of cool, hidden areas to explore with none of the long freeway driving that plagued Knoxx, although it does feel at times that certain levels wind unnecessarily just to make you walk farther.
Of course, I can't talk about Robot Revolution without mentioning the scaling patch that was released a few weeks later. The patch both raised the level cap an additional 8 levels (to 69, hah!) and fixed the pre-Knoxx part of the game to scale up to your level, making the game challenging again. I held off playing the Robot Revolution until the patch was available as I didn't want to complete a bunch of missions and not level up knowing the patch was just around the corner. This is really my only complaint about the DLC is that the patch didn't drop first or at the same time.
If you own a copy of Borderlands, you really should play this DLC, at
1200 800 MSP ($10 US) it's a hell of a deal, and the patch is free. I still think the General Knoxx DLC adds a little bit more than this for the same price, so if you can get only one, go for that. If you don't have Borderlands yet, you can pick up the Game of the Year Edition which includes all 4 DLCs, for hundreds of hours of looting and shooting!
Leveling up and shooting Jimmys in the face is a perfect match for me.
After only sitting down to play this game only 3 times, I've already logged over 20 hours and have leveled up to 25. When the game says it has a bazillion guns it's not joking, almost every character carries a different gun and every time you open a treasure chest it has new guns that entire party scrambles to get a glimpse of.
Yeah the party Jimmy. This a four player co-op RPS, RPS means Role playing shooter. It's something new. Kind of like something people were asking for after playing Fallout 3 for a little while. Where is the co-op? Here it is in Borderlands.
The setting here is a distant planet named Pandora. More like a Mad Max type world than a "Capital Wasteland." The graphics are cel-shaded, yes Jimmys are still making cel-shaded games. The game looks cool, the graphics don't really make a huge difference for me. The gunplay is spot on, the menu takes a little getting used to and the driving takes some practice.
I'm really enjoying this game and I look forward to playing it. It's super fun and really ... any game that's multiplayer that has a solid party system that is easy to use and most importantly FUN. My final verdict here is an easy choice.
This a Buy Jimmy!
Coming in September for 800 MS points or $9.99 on PC/PSN.
From Gearbox's website:
We have announced with 2K that Claptrap's New Robot Revolution will be the next installment of DLC for Borderlands.
The DLC will include new missions, new enemies, more backpack slots, more skill points and more. The DLC will be available this September on Xbox Live for 800 points, and Playstation Network and PC for $9.99.
I can't believe they're targeting September... Do they not know Halo is coming? Release this in August and I'll play the hell out of it, I'm gonna be playing the Reach come the 14th though.

New details emerge on the Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for Borderlands
- New level cap of 61
- More backpack space
- New enemies
- New weapons
- New vehicles
- 800 MS points on XBL, or $10 for PC or PS3.
Straight from Gearbox comes this news on the new Borderlands DLC. It was rumored (due to the achievments list being released) that the level cap has been raised from 50 to 61. This is now confirmed. You will get skill points for these new levels and there are missions that will increase your backpack size (probably more claptrap rescues).
Some new enemies were shown including the Crimson Lance's assasins, fast moving chicks with swords who drop in on you ODST style in a pod (interplanetary ninja assasins?). Also, midgets riding on skags! To give you a fighting chance against these new enemies, there will be new weapons (as well as the level cap of 48 on the old weapons and gear being increased).
A new vehicle was shown which seats all 4 co-op players, 1 driver and 3 gunners, though the weapons will be unique (one person can lay mines, for instance). This is in addition to the "monster" truck which was already shown and the existing runner.
The cost of the DLC was confirmed as $10 (which translates to 800 MS points for those playing on the XBox 360). Still no solid release date other than "soon".

After spending close to 200 hours (!!!) on this game, what's still interesting? Plus new info on the Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC.
When we first got our hands on this game we played through it in co-op, beating the game around level 34. The second play through gave a greater challenge and allowed us to max our characters out at level 50 (the highest level until the new DLC comes out) but we stopped and didn't beat the second play through. We thought we were done and had seen everthing the game had to offer. WRONG.
Starting with the release of the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned DLC (see our review), we returned to planet Pandora (no relation to Avatar). While the Zombie expansion provided some new sights and enemies, we again quit playing once it was pwned.
Next came the Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot expansion (review here). This gave us a bank to hold weapons (finally!) and gave you a nice arena to test out any new weapons you've found towards the end of the game on enemies actually at your level. While this DLC was not without problems (purple text on orange backround for one) it did open up a whole new reason to keep playing... finding newer guns and mods and testing them out with different charcter skill tree builds. So now I can still play even for just to kill a few minutes by searching for loot, it is strangely addicting, but you should see some of these guns, Jimmy! Pwnn! When more time is available (not much since Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 dropped) I like to search for loot, change up my character's skill points and test out the different builds to see what works best.
I think I've spent a lot of time in this game and know all there is to know and have seen all there is to see (again) then I see someone post something like this and realize that some people must've played this game 3x as much as I have... Insane. This game is a cult classic for sure.
I'm looking forward to the new DLC "The Secret Armory of General Knoxx" which will supposedly raise the level cap and pit us against even stronger, armored enemies. (Sounds alot like Broken Steel for Fallout 3, which was my favorite DLC of last year.) They're sure to fall against some of the equipment I have now, but, being an "armory" I expect new weapons and gear!
Update: We still don't know what the max level will be, but it will be at least 61 as evidenced by this new achievment:
Ding! Overleveled to 11
Reach Level 61
Here's all the new achievements for a total of 250 in new gamerscore:
Making a Monster
Build the New Car: Monster
Destroy the Lance Depot
Kill Crawmerax the Invincible
Sneaky Little Buggers
Kill each of the loot midgets
Destroy a Lancer while in a Racer
Reach Level 51
Ding! Overleveled to 11
Reach Level 61
Complete all missions in Secret Armory
Continue playing to unlock this secret achievement.
