$100 off of a PS3 courtesy of Power Up Rewards. Or not....WTF!

By: grey walrus May 11, 2011 | 14 Comments

Normally I have no problem with Gamestop, but their power up rewards program is really starting to get on my nerves.

Alright, I'm a member of the Power Up Rewards PRO program, and I think it's pretty nifty. I've redeemed my points for some things in the past and everything worked out fine. Until more recently. I redeemed a 11,500 for a LOZ shirt which is no laughing matter and the one they sent me wasn't the one pictured it was slightly different, but just enough so to be irritating, and they wouldn't issue me  refund without returning the shirt. Okay, no big deal it's still a cool shirt so I just kept it. But what I've found out in the last couple of days is really sort of pissing me off.

If you guys didn't know the guys at PUR sent out coupons for the PS3 to get you $100 off. And they're completely legit. I work at GameStop and we've had a couple come in they work all fine and dandy, and they come straight from the PUR website so there's no problem there, but I DIDN'T GET ONE! I want a PS3 and this would be the best way to get it.

So being a little aggravated I sent PUR an email asking why I didn't get one, and this is word for word exactly what went down in my email inbox.

ME:

I heard you guys were giving away $100 off of PS3 coupons, and I didn't get one. You guys gave a bunch of them to people who probably won't even use them, but I would can I please get one. My account number is.**** **** **** **** ***.

THEM:

Hello,  Be advised that there are certain criteria the card holder must have met:  *You must be a PRO card holder.  *Must have PS3 preferences listed in their PowerUp profile.  *Must have transaction information detailing PS3 related purchases.  *Must have listed you own a PS3 in your profile.  If you have met these requirements for the coupon please reply to this e-mail stating that you have met the requirements for the coupon.  Best Regards,  Alvina  GameStop Customer Service  PowerUp Rewards  www.poweruprewards.com

ME:

Why would you be only giving away PS3 coupons to people that already have them?! that makes no sense. People that already have them are not going to want to buy a new one. Your system is completely stupid. If you're trying to move stock for the new line of PS3 's coming in this is NOT the way to do it.

THEM:

Hello,  The $100.00 Playstation promotion was only sent out to a targeted group of people who DO NOT have Playstation games or Playstation console in their profile. This was only for a marketing trial. There is currently no way for us to regenerate the coupon. If you have any further concerns on this situation please contact customer support.  Best Regards,  Alvina  GameStop Customer Service  PowerUp Rewards  www.poweruprewards.com

ME:

You just completely contradicted yourself

Be advised that there are certain criteria the card holder must have met:  *You must be a PRO card holder. And you ARE customer support. That's why I contacted you in the first place. Please get your story straight and tell me why I didn't get one. According to your first email I don't meet the requirements, but according to your second one I do. So which is it?

Just to make the point that they contradicted themselves it was the same person that sent all the emails.  I haven't gotten a reply to this last one yet, and if my experience with my shirt told me anything it's that I won't get one.  What do you guys think? Should I keep pressing the matter and call customer service on the phone? keep sending tons of pissed of emails? Or just drop the matter entirely.

UPDATE

So, much to my surprise they have replied to my last email, although it was a different person this time.

Dear Valued Customer,  Thank you for contacting us.  I am very sorry for the confusion and any trouble this may have caused.  Unfortunately the $100 Sony PS3 coupon was only sent to a target group of customers who met the following criteria:  ? Indicated not owning a PS3 in their ?Gamer Preferences? on their online Power Up Rewards account  ? Did not have any transactions or purchases of PS3 consoles, accessories or games in any GameStop store or GameStop.com  ? Did not indicate a PS3 item in the Game Library under ?I Want, I Have, or I Had?  Please note that meeting the criteria did not guarantee a coupon.  We cannot resend this coupon but we do encourage you to be sure you have accurately answered all the questions on your ?Gamer Preferences? as we do base our Marketing targets on this information.  Best Regards,  Rachel  GameStop Customer Service  PowerUp Rewards  www.poweruprewards.com

So.. either the first person to email me was a complete idiot, or they're just trying to cover themselves by making it seem that way.

EBGames.com and Gamestop.com says that if you purchase the collector's edition for $69.99 you will be able to download two playable DLC Characters — Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine.

We are all ready to get our hands on Marvel vs Capcom 3. Most of us have been waiting 10 years to do so. With Marvel vs Capcom 3 just around the corner, I've been checking up on it as much as possible. It seems that EBGames.com and Gamestop.com have the first collectors edition of the game available for pre order. With a price tag of $69.99 that is solid deal. Seeing as every new collectors edition nowadays cost $99.99!

The best part is that the collectors edition comes with 2 downloadable characters Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath! Now I can have my complete Resident Evil Team (Chris, Wesker, and Jill)

Check out what will be in the collectors edition below.

• Steelbook case featuring exclusive art work.

• Comic/Art book- A 12-page prologue comic, written by Marvel writer Frank Tieri, plus campaign art and a curated selection of fan art.

• 1-month Subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, providing unlimited online access to Marvel content.

• People who pre-order through GameStop will receive MvC3 console decals created by Fathead. Also, character cards with a move list and descriptions.

Is anyone going to grab this collectors edition? Tell us what you think in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition is no longer listed on the website and not available to pre-order in the store.

When I picked up my Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 I engaged in the regular video game banter with the clerk. Seeing what he knew and or what was good. He kinda mumbled something about the Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition no longer available for pre-order. I said what? That game doesn't come out for two months, I never heard this story. I read the frickin' news everyday!

So I immediately grabbed the closet iphone and went on the website. Sure enough you can't find it on their website. So I went to the Best Buy website and they had it listed. Drove over to the Best Buy in person ... grabbed the pre-order box and took up to the counter and pointed to prestige pre-order on the back and told the girl I want that one rite dere! At this point my reciept says Prestige, so I will take that. We'll see what happens down the road.

For those of you Jimmys that want the Prestige order I suggest you get your head out of your ass and find out wtf is going on in your neighborhood.

Jimmy!

Gamestop is taking pre-orders for a Replica of the Retro Lancer weapon from Gears of War 3. Check the details to find out how you can get a $20 discount on it.

Dubbed the Retro Lancer during the Lambent Invasion, the Pendulum Wars Lancer Assault Rifle was the preceding model to the Lancer Assault Rifle. Used primarily in the Pendulum Wars as the COG soldier’s primary choice weapon, it was abandoned about a year after Emergence Day because the weapon was ineffective to the Locust Horde’s fighting tactics. However, following the Sinking of Jacinto when supplies started becoming sparse, the Retro Lancer started cropping up in fighting forces once again.

The NECA Retro Lancer replica will cost you $99.99 on its own or $20 off with the Gears of War 3 standard, Collector's and Epic Editions. Gears of War 3 is out on 20th September, 2011. Details:

  • Created from the actual 3D data used by Epic Games in the Gears of War 3 video game
  • Over 3.5 Feet in Length
  • Trigger Activates Machine Gun Sound Effect
  • Hand Painted with weathered and battle worn detail

There's only one way to GUARANTEE your access into the Gears of War 3 Beta at this point. A press release states that the beta is filling up and all requests for codes may not be filled. Leave a comment for a chance to win one of our codes. (if we get any)

Oh the goodness you are missing right now Jimmy. Don't worry, it's not like there are a million people playing Gears 3 right now. @therealcliffyb has been giving them away all day, over the Twitter and even in person. A few other employees from Epic have been passing them out, websites and I'm sure if you know somebody at a GameStop, you might even have one too.

We've been trying to get some for a few days, but we have been assured that the codes are very limited. Here's a tidbit from the email blast some press just received.

As you can imagine, we’ve received an overwhelming number of requests for beta tokens recently. Due to limited supply, unfortunately we can’t provide tokens to everyone at this time, but we’ve noted your request and will follow up closer to the beta launch on April 25 if we’re able to accommodate.

So we're keeping our fingers crossed for right now in hopes that we get some codes to share with you. Stick with Gouki.com and if you want a code, leave a comment, we'll do the best we can. I'm sure the more comments we get the better the chance we get at getting any codes at all.

With all that said and you don't believe in luck, you can buy your way in, by Pre-Ordering ANY version of Gears of War 3 from GameStop.com.

Get ready to jump back in the action with Delta Squad beginning this April by pre-ordering “Gears of
War 3” online at www.gamestop.com/gearsofwar3 or from any conveniently located GameStop store.* Fans can pre-order one of the three distinct “Gears of War 3” editions -- Standard ($59.99 USD), Limited ($79.99) and Epic ($149.99) -- and gain access to three weeks of multiplayer beta action on Xbox LIVE, beginning April 25.**

You can bet your sweet ass Gears of War 3 is going to be a lot of fun.

Alice: Madness Returns Pre-order is also digital music...

By: iorilamia May 15, 2011 | 4 Comments

Shadows of the Damned isn't the only one with digital CD's...

Alice: Madness Returns is coming out next month and the pre-order deal has already shown up on the Gamestop website. Unfortunately, it is another digital downlaod CD. (Same as Shadow of the Damned, see story here http://gouki.com/Story/Details/shadows-of-the-damned-pre-order-isnt-as-crazy-as-you-may-think).

The Alice music download is 9 songs from the soundtrack featuring new music from Chris Verenna (used to be in Nine Inch Fails) It says a code will be sent to you within 2 business days to download it. But here is what confuses me a bit:

It says "9 songs from the soundtrack" , is it not the whole soundtrack? Not too sure, hopefully something from the official site will come up soon. A second game going with the digital CD, I hope this isn't becoming a "thing".  Catherine and Disgea 4 are still coming out with actual CD'S and art, which is awesome. What do you think of this and what do you prefer? What are some ups an downs of digital CD's in your opinion?  Leave a comment below.

L.A. Noire Gets Gamestop Pre Order Bonuses

By: Cinderkin Feb 25, 2011 | 7 Comments

Preordering LA Noire at GameStop will net you two exclusive items of DLC.

Bob Mckenzie, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at Gamestop said: "We are particularly excited to be partnering with Rockstar Games on LA Noire as it is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated video games in the first half of 2011, the robust nature of the exclusive content is exactly what our customers have come to expect from Rockstar Games and GameStop."

Entitled 'The Naked City, the exclusive preorder case has Cole Phelps investigating the apparent suicide of a beautiful fashion model, as part of the overarching narrative in which the death of a woman is not all that it seems. Phelps will have to unravel the truth and get to the heart of the case.

The second preorder DLC item is the 'Badge Pursuit Challenge', which tasks Phelps with collecting 20 police badges hidden around the game's rendition of 1947 Los Angeles. Upon finding and grabbing all 20, you'll unlock the 'Button Man suit', which adds extra ammo for every weapon. Each badge also provides additional XP to help him rank up.

LA Noire is out on May 17th in North America and is available to preorder from GameStop for $59.99. You can also preorder from Amazon and Get same day delivery for $0.99. Don't be a Jimmy get on the preorder.
