EA AND INSOMNIAC GAMES REVEAL NEW FOUR-PLAYER CO-OP ACTION GAME OVERSTRIKE
Award-Wining Developer Makes its Worldwide Multiplatform Debut with an Explosive Spy-Fi Adventure
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – June 6, 2011 – A shadowy organization has threatened to take over the world and there’s only one team that can stop it: Overstrike 9. This afternoon during the Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), EA and independent developer Insomniac Games (creator of the Ratchet & Clank™ and Resistance™ franchises) announced the first details of the highly-anticipated game, Overstrike. Combining Insomniac’s knack for imaginative weaponry with immersive and witty storytelling, Overstrike is a four-player cooperative action game featuring a team of elite agents called Overstrike 9. Comprised of an ex-mercenary, a lifelong thief, a gifted young scientist and a decorated detective, the members of Overstrike 9 are considered outcasts within their own organization, but are the best team suited to stop a global terrorist group from attempting to wipe out humankind. Overstrike 9 uses lethal teamwork and an arsenal of fringe-tech gadgets to infiltrate and destroy enemy strongholds. Overstrike marks Insomniac’s first multiplatform release and will be available on the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.
“Overstrike presents a unique blend of features that have long been a part of the Insomniac DNA: high powered gadgets, action-heavy gameplay, memorable characters in a deep and mysterious universe and of course a touch of humor,” said Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games. “And since this is our first multiplatform game, we’re especially excited to introduce ourselves to a new audience – one which may not have experienced our previous games.”
Overstrike will launch on the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.
I got a chance to play Resistance 3 at Sony's E3 2011 booth, here's my take.
FnJimmy and I were waiting in line to play some Resistance 3 at Sony's booth. We thought we were going to play some multiplayer. Turns out we were playing the campaign even though they had the TVs set up side by side like the do for all their MP demos (like Uncharted and Starhawk). The Sony rep points me at the second TV in the row, lucky me, I got the one with 3D enabled. I put the goggles on over my glasses, not particularly comfortable, but not too bad until I also try to put the headphones on, now I've got three things on my ears.
Anyway the game controlled and felt like I expected, complete with the Sony R1 instead of trigger to fire that I've come to hate and expect in every exclusive PS3 game. (Seriously, WTF?)
I don't know if something was wrong with the 3D goggles (low battery?) or if all the E3 lights and flashes were interfering with the signal, but I had a bunch of cross talk, to the point that I had two reticules to aim through which obviously made targeting a bit of a trick. I wasn't sure if I should aim at the left, right, or split the difference. By the end of the demo... well I didn't stay for the end of the demo, I just quit after about 5 minutes as I did not want to spend the rest of my day at E3 with a splitting (see what I did there) headache.
Resistance seems like an above-average FPS in a market flooded with them, so I'm not super hyped about it (especially given the PS3 exclusive controls, I like my FPS on the 360). I'm totally not excited for 3D to come to my house any time soon.
Resistance 3 ships September 6, 2011 for the PS3.
A new trailer showing off some of the story of FUSE, Insomniac Games' first multi platform title.
Description: Four Against Everyone - An alien energy source known as Fuse has been stolen by the rogue military corporation, Raven. Each of Raven's ruthless leaders has their own plan for the powerful, volatile substance. Can the Overstrike 9 agents stop them before the world is brought to its knees?
Did they get the guy who made the Mass Effect music? Some of that in the trailer sounded familiar.
Insomniac's new trailer for Fuse delayed, name changed from Overstrike, Ted Price apologizes to fans

At PAX, Ted Price of Insomniac games announced that Overstrike would be known as Fuse and a new trailer was coming...
It turns out we won't be getting that trailer today due to what Ted Price has called a "legal rights issue".
"During my keynote speech at PAX, I revealed the first screenshot from Fuse, our new game, with a link to this website. If you visited the site, you found a countdown clock that was scheduled to end at 6 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on September 12th."
"We had an awesome trailer planned and finished. Unfortunately a last-minute legal-rights issue has prevented us from releasing the trailer as planned. EA is trying to obtain the necessary approvals and we hope to bring the trailer to you soon."
Here's what we do know about the game formerly known as Overstrike. From the Fuse website:
When a volatile alien energy source called Fuse falls into the wrong hands, the CIA calls in an elite contact team to retrieve it: Overstrike 9. Join up to three friends in co-op play as you deploy lethal teamwork and Fuse-powered weapons to take down the rogue paramilitary corporation behind the theft.
“LEAP” between agents during battle and combine their weapons and abilities for devastating results.
Combine the agents’ Fuse-powered weapons to trigger Fusion for greatly increased damage.
Develop agents along deep upgrade paths and discover all the possibilities for lethal teamwork.
That sounds pretty cool, a 4 player co-op, but with the ability to swap between classes if there aren't 4 people playing. An interesting take on the genre that should be great fun for a first play through but may limit replay if you've had the chance to use all the classes in one go.

EA published game Fuse has just received some good news for the gamers out there. Insomniac Games has confirmed there will be no Online Pass for their upcoming Fuse game.
Fuse is a game built from the ground up for and around co-op gameplay, and while developed by Insomniac Games it is being published by none other than EA. Right now EA is not on gamers favorite publishers list, being twice named the worst company of the year.
During a Q&A with their fans, Insomniac Games had some really good things to say about Fuse. When asked if there will be an online pass they responded with "Nope. But, you should still buy it new to support us because there are no microtransactions to make up for it, though. :D"
They also mentioned that Fuse will get a demo closer to it's May 28th release date.
This game is looking really good right now, and I know the Gouki.com crew is excited for this. Tell us what you think in the comments and don't be a Jimmy!
