So once again I have been hooked up by Gouki.com, this time it was some great swag from Pax 2011. Arth posted his story showing the package we got. So I decided to do something special.
The first shot was fun, but it just didn't stand out.
So I figured Master Chief could use a trip to the beach.
And my son of course had to join the fun. There was also a pic of him with the Omniblade, but it didn't come out good.
So once again I am a happy jimmy thanks to the crew here. Thanks again guys.

Halo: Reach to be patched with new balance, and an old friend!!
At PAX's Halo-Fest, 343 Industries announced that a title update will be heading to Halo: Reach, changing some of the balance of the games's weapons and armor abilities.
First up, Armor Lock:
It looks as if the Armor lock ability will be nerfed quite a bit. first of all, plasma grenades will no longer detach from the player if they use armor lock. This I feel should be necessary because This is one of the abilities that I hated to deal with the most. Also, The duration of armor lock will now be based on how much energy a player has instead of a set time, effectively diminishing it's usefulness.
Next up on the list: Active Camo:
All they are going to do is shorten the amount of time you are in Active Camo mode. I don't know if this could be a good thing, or a bad thing.
and now, other balance changes:
Players will no longer block another players sword with any other weapons except for another sword. To me, this makes if feel more like classic Halo mechanic, seeing as how in Halo 2 and Halo 3, you couldn't block the sword with anything but the sword.
Players will also be able to change their reticule's "bloom", allowing for increased accuracy during rapid firing. To be honest, I could welcome this inclusion.
A shield bleed-through effect will be included in the update, meaning that any damage that takes out the last portion of your shield can be carried over to your health.
The last update is for those who like the magnum in Combat Evolved. the magnum will get a boost in it's power, being one step closer to it's original power. This is one of the best things I've heard for reach in a long time. Sure, the magnum is good as it is now in Reach, but with this upcoming update, It's probably going to be the go to gun, perhaps more than the DMR.
The update will kick in starting in October.

Team Gouki went to PAX Prime in Seattle and got the scoop on Borderlands 2 from Gearbox Software. Read on for info from the demo, and watch the video interview with art director Jeramy Cooke.
Borderlands 2 was our number one game going into PAX. I've personally put 500 hours into the first game according to Raptr. (I've also got 100% of the acheivements!) It was hard to wait for the last day of the convention for our appointment with Gearbox, but it was worth it.
We entered the Borderlands 2 theater, adorned with art of the gunzerker and new monsters on the walls, I noticed the game was being demoed on the PC. We were introduced to Steve Gibson who proceded to give the presentation.
The first thing I noticed when they started playing the game was the addition of a minimap in the upper right corner. No more jumping into the menu to figure out where you are! It's a small touch to be sure, but it can make the game so much more enjoyable. The player then paused the game to show us the new streamlined menus. They look a whole lot better and are much narrower to fit into the split screen mode (so it looks, for now, like split screen will be vertical again). We got to see some of the Gunzerker's skill tree. You still need to be level 5 just to get your action skill and start the tree. This demo started off at level 4.
As the Gunzerker moved forward he was attacked by 2 Bullymongs, a new artic ape like creature with four arms. The Bullymongs will attack directly, or stand back and throw rocks or other pieces of the environment at you (including cars according to Steve, but we didn't see that). After picking up a "Tediore disposable gun" the player showed us how, instead of reloading a Tediore, you simply throw it away and watch it explode as a copy respawns in your hands. The explosion can be made bigger at the expense of ammo if you throw it down before the clip is empty. This was super effective against the bullymongs.
As the Gunzerker chased down his objective, a hostage you may recognize, we got to see our first bandits. The new enemy AI is a great improvement over the first Borderlands. Gone are the days where you just get some high ground and pick off the helpless saps. Now the bandits will chase you to the high ground, climbing and jumping along with you, jumping over low walls and generally not giving you any room to rest. This should help give BL2 a bit more of the challenge factor that it needs. The bandit animation has been beefed up as well; they stagger backwards realistically when shot, loose limbs if hit in the right spot, and eventually fall over dead (assuming you don't explode them of course). The animation looks great even at this early stage. The hostage, okay it was Roland the soldier class from the first game, was trapped by a mech called W4R-D3N which was moving slowly through the level and being protected by mechs. As the first round of mechs died off, the warden would shoot fireworks to signal for help and more mechs would drop in from the giant Hyperion H in the sky. As saving Roland was the objective, the waypoint moved as the warden traveled the level, showing us that mission objectives were no longer static in Borderlands 2.
The gunzerker class is a re-imagining of the bezerker (Brick) from the first game. Instead of punching things as his action skill, the gunzerker instead pulls out a second weapon which could have some awesome combined elemental effects with the right weapons. He can use ANY weapons in dual wield mode, so two rocket launchers or a minigun with a sniper. Even without knowing what the other classes action skills are, this one looks like a winner.
There's a new siren in the game too. She joined the fight about halfway through the demo to show us the drop-in/drop-out co-op that made Borderlands so successful was still in place. Gearbox would not reveal what her action skill was, only that it was definitely NOT phasewalk. (They also assured us it was "Mysterious and Powerful").
During a short driving section where we saw the new bandit truck, Steve told us that the driving mechanics had been completely re-worked so that you wouldn't get stuck on a small rock anymore. Huge smiley face there! The vehicles also don't stop when they hit an enemy that they don't insta-kill anymore, instead the skag (in this case) flew up and over the hood as he was run down by the bandit truck. Sweet...
If you're wondering if the humor is back, well I'm happy to report that this is definitely a Borderlands game. From badguys with midgets strapped to their shields to mechs named "EXP-Loader" that self destruct (get it?). The demo brought back lots of memories of seeing the original game for the first time. (Before anyone asks, we did NOT see any claptraps.)

While we confirmed that a bank will be in BL2, it was hinted during the panel later that this might be a shared bank, allowing you to move weapons and items between your saves. Personally, I'm really hoping for this!
Borderlands 2 releases sometime in 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC (a Mac version will be released as well, and Gearbox are trying to make that simultaneous with the other three, but can't say for sure yet).

I'm definitely looking forward to this reboot of Counter Strike. I think I'd rather play it on PC though because, if you didn't catch it, console players won't be able to set-up custom games.

Team Gouki paid a visit to En Masse Entertainment's Seattle HQ and got a first-hand look at TERA for the PC.
TERA, or The Exiled Realm of Arborea, is an MMORPG and En Masse wants you to put an "A" in front of that for Action. Team Gouki took a break from the madness of the PAX show floor to head over to En Masse Entertainment's HQ for a glimpse into what that means. First, let's get this out of the way, TERA has already been released in South Korea (home of developer Bluehole Studio) and is being localised for the N.A. and Euro markets.
As we arrived at En Masse, we were shown into the conference room and seated at computers with different class names labeled on each. As we were the first group in, we were given a choice as to what we wanted to play as. I chose the sorcerer, a high damage but low health "glass cannon" type. FnJimmy chose the archer, a ranged damage class. One of the guys from En Masse would play as the Mystic (healer) class to keep all of us n00bs alive for the demo. Typically, one of their staff would play as the tank as well, but we had a full room, so to maximize the available PCs another member of the gaming press was seated at the tank station.
There are a total of eight classes (to start) for TERA; two healers, two tanks, and four damage classes. You probably need at least one tank and one healer in your party if you want to do well against the tougher enemies or raids.
After we were given a brief overview of the game mechanics and story, we jumped right in to the game. What makes TERA an "Action" MMORPG is that you have to aim and move (and dodge) in real time. The fights are more Mass-Effect like, just with a bunch more options. I had opened up the menu to look at what my spells did, since the icons were unfamiliar, most of the others in the group had done the same or were playing around with the dodge mechanic in the empty hallway leading into the room full of monsters. Not FnJimmy. No, he had to go all LEEEROY JENKINNNNS!!! on us and rush into the action where he agro a bunch of monsters and drew them back into the narrow hallway where we were all standing. Actual quote from the En Masse staff: "That's not good, I'd be surprised if you survived this." Fuckin' Jimmy!
I stood rear guard and killed some of the monsters that were chasing FnJimmy down the hall while the rest of the group cleared the door so we could get into the large room we were supposed to be fighting in. We made it, barely. Now it was time for a boss fight, TERA allows you to combo chain your attacks together when they connect, I quickly learned that my standard attack (a fireball) could be chained off of the #4 spell on my keyboard (an electrical ball attack that was slow) and allow a follow-up ice bomb. These follow up combos were done by simply pressing the spacebar after your first move connected (provided your cross hairs were still on target) and increased in damage massively. I was taking off 11,000+ points of damage on the boss every time. Our tank player was good at keeping the boss's attention away from us weaker characters and the healer kept him alive and the rest of us buffed up. We dropped the boss without anyone dying. Sweet.
GoukiJones then subbed in for FnJimmy to get a taste of the archer, I kept playing. We went to fight another boss who had minions he would summon periodically. It was a fierce battle that took the remainder of our time, but we came out on top, again with zero deaths. First group to do that according to the En Masse staff, and we did it without their tank!
Honestly, TERA was a big surprise for me at PAX, because I'm not a huge MMO fan. Adding the "Action" to it made a huge difference, and I liked what I saw of this more than I did of SW:TOR (although this was the third show where I've seen TOR, I played it over 15 months ago at E3 2010, so maybe I'm just tired of looking at it, seriously release that shit already).
The folks at En Masse are putting a lot into the end-game of TERA as well, there will be elections and cross-server invasions (or defense depending on what side you're on I guess). I don't know how much of that I'll be into, PvP was never my thing on RPGs.
TERA is scheduled to be released in North America and Europe in Spring 2012.

Tron is my favorite character in Marvel VS Capcom 3. While playing UMvC3 I noticed that the chains just weren't there anymore. Jimmy don't like that!
FnJimmy and I had the pleasure to square off against one another in UMv3 a few times over the weekend. We have our first match on tape and you can watch that below. But before you do, I would like to clarify that I do not like anything about UMvC3 except that it has more characters that I might want to use.
Tron is definitely not the same, the simple drill into medium attack, repeat and carry on combo is gone. You can clearly see in the video me attempting to do it. Maybe the timing is different in UMvC3, maybe not, I was struggling for sure. I don't like the health bars. I'm totally confused which is which, it's dark and hard to see, especially when everything in UMvC3 is already moving fast enough and is all over the screen.
I used Dr. Strange and Nemesis and you can see my PWNn with Strange in the video below, but not so much with the Nemesis. I don't like him too much. Another time we played I used Ghost Rider again(I used him at EVO.) Ghost Rider is cool, Hulk don't like that chain reaching across the map and neither does FnJimmy. So if my Tron truly is nerfed, it be Ghost Rider stepping in as of now. Don't be a Jimmy! Watch the video and leave some comments below. And don't forget to hype the UMvC3 up on the catalog page.

Capcom Unity hooked us up with a little over an hour of footage. And Marvel.com updated Poenix's costumes.
I'm dying to get my copy. It still feels so far away. But seeing the game in action helps a little. I'm really looking forward to learning Ghost Rider and Dr Strange. And hoping that we will see some DLC by Christmas. Nemesis still looks really slow to me, but I think his damage output will be worth it for the players that can figure him out.
And if you guys got an extra one of these from 2K I know the perfect Jimmy to send it to......
