Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma have surfaced! Check it out! NSFW Jimmy!

Offcast has a ton of gameplay footage archived. Check it out. Absolutley amazing. Below is some information on the two fighters.

Oni Akuma

• People are comparing Oni more to Gouken than to Akuma. He looks slower and his sweep is different. Regular fireballs don't travel full screen, unless they're the EX version. Red (electric) Fireballs do travel full screen.

• Has a new teleport/air dash move by doing quarter-circle back + 3x Punches. Can be used to avoid anti air moves, among other things. Seems to have some recovery on it, though. Overall, seems to be a GREAT move.

• One of his attacks makes him leap into the air and come with a stomp/body attack, think E. Honda's Sumo Splash. There's an EX version of this.

• He has a Shoryuken (Dragon Punch) and Hurricane Kick. Shoryuken seems good at times, others, not so good.

• Health isn't known, some say it's low, some say it's average. May be because he's fighting Evil Ryu so much, who takes off a ton of life.

• Damage output is low.

• Some of his normal moves are fairly good, like Standing Hard Kick. His c.MP is pretty decent. Some of his normals are so-so.

• His 'Gouken Palm' special crosses up and it might be fireball invincible. It's unsafe on block, though.

• Demon Flip is a really good anti air from some ranges.

• Super is a Raging Demon.

• Ultra 2 looks like Akuma's Ground Pound Super Art (Kongou Kokuretsu Zan) from Third Strike if it whiffs or partially connects, but if goes into the full animation Oni jumps into the air and finishes with a huge Shoryuken with a lot of flashing stuff on screen.

• Can combo his Ultra 2 off his EX Slide Dash move.

• Can do air Ultra fireball... possibly for chip damage.

Evil Ryu

• Evil Ryu's most closely resembles Akuma in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. Many of their moves are very similar. A few examples: Far Standing Hard Punch is the same, Crouching Hard Kick (sweep) is slightly slower, Hurricane Kick can juggle into a Shoryuken and it doesn't break armor.

• Akuma's Fireball, Red Fireball, Shoryuken, Hurricane Kick, Dive Kick and Teleport all look to be pretty close to what Evil Ryu can do. It looks like many things Akuma can do, like cross up Hurricane Kicks and core combos, so can Evil Ryu.

• Has a new special move, appears to be quarter-circle forward + Hard Kick. This performs an Axe Kick with an exaggerated animation, the regular version does not hit overhead, but the EX version does. You can combo into the regular versions from a Crouching Medium Kick, but the EX version won't combo.

• He definitely has low health (stamina), probably some where around Akuma's, I'd guess 850. Two wrong guesses can lead to a dizzy from some characters.

• Can combo into his Ultra 2 with Crouching Medium Kick into EX Fireball FADC, Ultra 2. Full animation will land. Sick.

• Does a TON of damage. One combo into Hurricane Kick did about 35-40% on Chun-Li.

• Evil Ryu's Crouching Medium Kick is like the one in Third Strike, pretty good, but slower than Ryu's and you can't combo into it from Light Punch.

• You can combo into his Medium Punch off Light Punch, though, and his Crouching Medium Punch is really good. Thing has a lot of range and stuffs a lot of attackst. On bigger hitbox characters you can combo 3 Crouching Medium Punches into whatever you like. So far you can do it on Oni..

• His Super is a Raging Demon.

• Ultra 1 is a souped up Fireball. This mostly closely resembles normal Gouken's Ultra 2, as it appears that you can charge it up and then release it.

• Ultra 2 is a Metsu Go Shoryu uppercut which he hits you with three uppercuts: flies into the air and charges evil energy... and slams you're face into the ground with it.

• Toward + Medium Kick does a lunging Hop Kick, but it doesn't hit overhead.

• Hard Punch Shoryuken is a good anti air.

• Red Rapper offered this opinion on Evil Ryu: "It's all about risk reward. He [doesn't make] Ryu obsolete. Essentially, you're getting a different version of Ryu who does more Damage, but in return takes a LOT OF DAMAGE. His c.MK is better or worse in some ways, but he has some cool tools that could help out against normal Ryu's bad matchups. However — he's for sure not overpowered. No way."

He's not like Vanilla Sagat either. Vanilla Sagat you could guess wrong quite a few times and still pull out a victory with one ultra combo. Evil Ryu you guess wrong twice you're [screwed]."

Very cool character, though. Tons of fun to play and a nice vary up to normal Ryu's style."

SSF4 AE: Evil Ryu Developer Blog

By: Cinderkin Mar 29, 2011 | 6 Comments

Eventhubs posted a translated version of the SSF4 AE developer blog concerning Evil Ryu and how his play style is. Check it out!

Character Summary

• Evil Ryu is a character with strong close and mid-range offense, but weak defense. He can take out opponents, or be taken out in one stroke.
• Same health and stun as Akuma (850 health/850 stun).
• His jump is the same as Ryu's, but his movement and dash are different.

Normal Attacks

• His composition of normals consists of a Ryu base, with some of Akuma's as well as some all new normals.
• He has Akuma's Jumping Hard Kick, Standing Hard Punch, Crouching Hard Punch and Crouching Hard Kick.
• New normals: Close Hard Punch, Standing Medium Kick and Crouching Medium Kick.
• The frame data on the moves are adjusted, so though they have similar motions, they might have different frames.
• Same cancels and Super cancels as Ryu.
• Crouching Medium Kick is based on Ryu's version in 3rd Strike.
• 7 frame start up, so it doesn't Link with any of his normals, but since it has better reach than Ryu's, it works well as a low poke.

Crouching Medium Kick's hit box

Unique Attacks and Target Combos

• His unique attacks are Zugai Hasatsu (Akuma's overhead), Senbukyaku, and Tenmakujinkyaku (Akuma's dive kick).
• Senbukyaku is the same move from the Alpha series.
• It allows Evil Ryu to attack while avoiding low kicks, but can be blocked low and puts him at a frame disadvantage.
• Without hitting your opponent, it's effective at moving Evil Ryu into throw range.
• Target combo is Close Medium Punch, Close Hard Punch.
• Its damage isn't particularly high, so you might not find many places to use it, but since it's a simple motion and you can delay the attack, it's difficult to punish.

Senbukyaku's hit box

Special Moves

• His specials are Fireball, Red Fireball, Shoryuken, Hurricane Kick, Air Hurricane Kick, Teleport, and Ryusokyaku (Dragon Claw/Wheel Kick).
• Of those, Ryusokyaku is a completely new attack.
• In the early creation stage, some were of the opinion of giving Evil Ryu the Jodan Sokuto Geri (aka the Mule Kick from 3rd Strike), but it was decided to give him a new move more befitting of his image.
• Used alone, the attack is slow to come out, but you can can cancel into from Light, Medium, and Hard attacks, it's a strong but flashy move.
• If you have bar, you can perform top-class hard-hitting combos with the move.

Super Move

• His Super move is Shun Goku Satsu (a.k.a. Raging Demon).
• Since you will use Evil Ryu's EX moves often, you might not use his Super much, but when paired together with the Senbukyaku, it's an incredibly powerful technique.

Ultra Moves

• Ultra 1 is Metsu Hadouken, Ultra 2 is Messatsu Goshoryu.
• Ultra 1 is fundamentally the same as Ryu's, but doesn't do much damage.
• However, you can hold the buttons and charge the attack. Fully charged, it does more damage.
• Fully charged and at close range, it does even more damage.
• It might be difficult to create a situation where you can land it, but try it out.

• Ultra 2 is a horizontal Shoryuken, so it might be a bit difficult to use as an anti-air, but you can combo the move from a FADC (Focus Attack Dash Cancel).
• It does high damage, and by itself, with the full cinematic, it does the same damage as Ryu's Metsu Shoryuken (500 damage).

Boss Version of Evil Ryu

• The boss version is very different from the playable version.
• High difficulty, and can unleash some incredible attacks that will make you doubt your eyes.
• If you ever have the chance to fight him, you have the developer's blessing.

SSF4 AE: Oni Developer Blog

By: Cinderkin Apr 12, 2011 | 5 Comments

The latest Japanese Developer Blog has been posted this time featuring Oni. Check it out!

ONI

CHARACTER INTRODUCTION

-Kuruoshiki Oni (which I shall translate as Batshit-Insane Oni) was created to be beyond Shin Akuma
-Created using Akuma as a base, but because of his different appearance, techniques, properties, etc., he's pretty much an entirely different character
-Higher health, stun than Akuma

NORMAL ATTACKS
-Does not have close/far normals, similar to Makoto or Dudley
-About half of his normals are new
-Some of his normals are similar to Akuma's, while others are not, so try to figure out where and how to use them
'

st.HP
-Steps forward while doing an upward diagonal palm thrust
-Forces stand
-At close range, will combo with Tatsu
-Has better reach than st.LP and has a strong upward-reaching hitbox, so at the proper distance, can be used as anti-air
-6F start-up, 4F active, 17F recovery. Won't link from any of his normals, but since you can use it for an easy combo as part of Target Combo 2, it will get frequent usage

F+HP
-Takes a large step forward while doing a palm thrust to the midsection
-Has the longest horizontal reach of his normals
-Even on block it's difficult to punish because of the distance, so it's effective as a poke
-Has projectile properties, so can neutralize projectile attacks. Won't work against multi-hitting projectiles, however
-Super-cancellable
-11F startup, 6F active, 18F recovery; +0 on hit, -9 on block

st.MK
-At close range, does two hits
-Relatively fast start-up, and has reach, so you can use it as a poke, but use with caution, as it will whiff against crouching opponents from a distance
-First hit is special- and Super-cancellable.
-5F start-up, 1F active (first hit) 4F active (second), 14F recovery
-Can link from st.LP, other attacks

F+MK
-Does a spin while performing a forward roundhouse kick
-Has the second longest reach, after F+HP
-Different from F+HP, as it keeps Oni moving forward after the motion, so intentional whiffs can be an effective way to close in
-Rather slow start-up for a MK, so it's best to not abuse it
-12F start-up, 2F active, 13F recovery; +2 on hit, -2 on block

F+HK
-A high back roundhouse, in a similar motion to Ryu's st.HK
-Knocks down against air opponents, so you can follow up with certain specials in the corner
-Spaced properly, you can hit your opponent out of the start of a forward jump

cr.HK
-A crouched spinning sweep
-8F start-up, 2F active, 24F recovery
-Won't link with any of his normals, but has good reach and a strong hitbox
-On block, can be punished with Ultra Combos by nearly all characters, so it's best to use it from a far distance, where it's difficult to punish

UNIQUE ATTACKS AND TARGET COMBOS
-B+MP (Ganka Uchi)
-Fast, links from st.LP (and other attacks)
-Special- and super-cancellable
-TC1: F+LP → st.MP
-TC2: B+MP → st.HP
-Both are cancellable
-Can used for various combos, but since too many hits will affect total damage, use it based on the match-up and your own preference

SPECIAL ATTACKS
-Special moves: Gohadoken, Gorai Hadoken (Roaring Thunder Hadoken), Zanku Hadosho (air dash), Goshoryuken, Tatsumaki Zankukyaku, Air Tatsu, Sekisei Jiraiken (Red Star Landmine Fist, aka fist pound), Rakan Dantojin (Arhat Tower Slice Blade, aka palm slice).
-All except Zanku Hadosho have EX versions
-Tatsu and Palm Slice are Armor-Break

Explanation of some EX move properties:

EX Gohadoken

-The normal version is chargeable, will reach full-screen and hit twice, but the EX version already has those properties and is not chargeable
-Doesn't knock down ground opponents, so you can create various combos from FADCs

EX Rakan Dantojin (Palm slice)
-MK version has projectile-invincibility only during the forward movement at start-up, but the EX version is projectile-invincible until the end of active frames
-Slow technique, so if you're too far away, you'll go through the fireball but won't hit your opponent in time

EX Sekisei Jiraiken (Fist pound)
-Normal version is one hit, can be blocked low, but the EX version is two-hit, overhead on the first hit only
-Has a prolonged hitbox when his fist hits the ground, so depend on how it hits, it can be difficult to punish even when blocked
-Knocks down, so you can follow up the attack with a combo

SUPER COMBO
-Super Combo is Shun Goku Satsu (Raging Demon).
-Can also be done in the air, but only hit air opponents. Like the ground version, can be kara-cancelled

ULTRA COMBOS
-UC1 is Meido Gohado, UC2 is Tenchi Sokaigen
-UC1 does 350 damage from a distance, but 450 point-blank
-UC1 gives you access to Messatsu Gotenha (upward fireball version) and Messtasu Gozanku (air fireball version). Neither do particularly high damage, but find ways to use them and include them in your fighting strategy

-UC2 does high damage, is projectile-invincible
-At close range, a hit will lock your opponent in the cinematic
-Doesn't do much damage outside of the cinematic, so move in close when using the move
-Can be comboed from FADCs, so we recommend players who prefer damage to use this UC
-525 damage on a clean hit (i.e. the second most-damaging UC in the game, only surpassed by oiled Hakan's Oil Coaster)

OTHER
-Like Evil Ryu, the boss version in Arcade Mode has totally different properties"

Amazon.com has listed Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition for $40. We already know that it's coming out at the end of June, but price for the Disc version wasn't announced. Check it out.

Now before anyone freak out, look at it the way I see it. For everyone who already owns Super Street Fighter IV we get the DLC for $15 to add to our game. For those who don't own a copy of Super, can get the Arcade Edition on disc with Super included for one low price. I agree with Capcom if this is the price they are going with. I will most likely buy the disc version, because then i can take it anywhere, I don't have to worry about DLC and being online. Also this is great for the tournament scence. Disc based is the way to go in my opinion.

SSF4 Arcade Edition Will Be at EVO 2011!

By: Cinderkin Apr 12, 2011 | 7 Comments

With the official release date for Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, the guys that run Evolution (the tournament of all tournaments) has changed SSF4 to Arcade Edition for this year.

"We are happy to announce that we will be switching the EVO 2011 Street Fighter 4 tournament to use SSF4 Arcade Edition! AE's June 7th release date will give players nearly two months of training to prepare for EVO on July 29th. We look forward to seeing the best fighters in the world come together to battle it out on another great Street Fighter title. If you haven't registered for EVO yet, now is your chance to save $20! Our early bird special for registration expires May 1st, so register now at http://evo2k.com/register "

CEO 2011, the Evo Tournament Season event in Orlando Florida, is also switching over to Arcade Edition.

This is great news for a lot of people. I for one feel that this isn't exactly fair for the thousands of gamers who only get 2 months to practice, while a lot of pro's have been in the arcades since last year. At least last year everyone got Super at the same time. Either way I can't wait to see how this turns out for this years EVO.

Gouki.com will be there and we hope to see you guys  there too. Don't be a Jimmy!

Daigo "The Beast" Umehara (Yun) was at the 5 on 5 SSF4 AE TOPANGA Japan Relief Charity Event. He was on Team Topanga with Mago (Fei Long), Tokido (Akuma), Bonchan (Sagat), and Nyanshi (Sagat). Check out the last 3 matches of the Finals. Clutch!

Team Topanga had so many good players that Daigo barely played, I didn't even get to see him play until the Finals. So when Shiro (Makoto) dominated the rest of Team Topanga, I was excited to see the Beast come out. With Daigo as the last hope for the team. Watch his amazing clutch play with Yun.

Yun and Yang SSF4 AE Endings

By: Cinderkin Mar 5, 2011 | 8 Comments

A direct feed recording of Yun and Yang's endings has been uploaded recently. The endings are in English and high quality. It's both endings on the same video, although I think it's out of order. Check it out!

What did you think of the endings? Do you agree that Yun's ending should have gone first then Yang's? The way the endings are for these two they definitely go together in and order. Other than that I think they are pretty cheesy as to be expected. Tell us what you think in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!

Evil Ryu will be at the arcades this week.

He's making his way to the Arcade on the 25th, hopefullt we'll see him at home soon.  But Oni will have to wait.  Do any of you still make t out to the arcades?  Did the early leak get anyone hyped for the release or have you just been wondering what it'll cost you at home.  Capcom loves to milk it's properties for all they are worth, but are these worth it to you?  Let's hear it, don't be a Jimmy.

SSFIV Arcade Edition coming home?

By: DragonKiss83 Mar 14, 2011 | 9 Comments

Korean Ratings board showing it's comming to consoles?

http://shoryuken.com/content/korean-ratings-board-indicates-ssf4-arcade-edition-consoles-coming-3868/

According to Shoryuken the Korean ratings board is showing two ratings for the game and that is how they handle the releases for Xbox 360 and PS3 both getting ports of the same game.

It could be nothing, especially since it's already been said that it wasn't getting a home release, but we've been misled before.

Will this be enough for you to buy yet another version of Street Fighter IV or are you hoping for DLC?  Or would you prefer to just download the characters and forget about Arcade Edition?  Let's hear it, don't be a Jimmy.
