Jill Gameplay in Marvel vs Capcom 3

By: Cinderkin Feb 20, 2011 | 13 Comments

Alzmer posted a gameplay video of Jill Valentine, the first character from the DLC Pack with Shuma-Gorath. This video comes from a hacked version off the PS3 leading us to believe that these characters are on disc and just waiting to be unlocked.

"This was a relatively simple hack. I decrypted the PS3 version's executable file, changed some variables around, and replaced Viewtiful Joe with Jill. I then re-encrypted the executable and made a quick modification to the game-data MvC3 installs onto the PS3. (Namely, changed a parameter so that the game would treat the modified executable as though it were a patch.) After a bit more tweaking and poking at the game files, I successfully loaded her into the character select screen. (And yes, she's completely playable, albeit at the expense of losing Viewtiful Joe.)

Those who got special edition how do you feel? Where is the early access to these dlc characters. They are on the disc and not available for a whole month? What gives? Tell us what you think in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!

Latest Yang SSF4 developer blog post translated

By: Cinderkin Oct 16, 2010 | 5 Comments

The Japanese Super Street Fighter 4 development team posted a blog running down some of the abilities of Yang in the upcoming game, which was recently translated.

This is taken from the Delvelopment teams blog. Translated by Arc-rail over at http://shoryuken.com

About Yang, Blog Post No. 1

Greetings. This is the Developer Blog.

The release date for new costumes on home consoles has been announced. We put our all into making them, so please do enjoy these as well!

This time brings us the younger brother of the twins, Yang. I'd like to talk about his normal moves.

As in Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, his style is similar to Yun's. SSF4 Arcade Edition's tuning continues that approach.

He fights with quick attacks at short to medium range, stopping the enemy from acting with closely spaced strings. He is a character who pressures his opponent with a combination of strikes and grabs.

The potential of his short-range moves is extraordinarily high, so "how to get close to the opponent" should be an important point.

Since his debut, his stamina has been below average, so he cannot afford to take heavy damage. Please be cautious of this.

Normal attacks

Like Yun, Yang has the same lineup of normal moves that he did in SFIII:3S.

From among those, I think I'll bring up a few for representative purposes.

Standing Light Punch has significantly short recovery time, and a long reach compared to most light attacks.

It can be used as a poke, and leads to various combos on hit.

Close Medium Kick: like in SFIII:3S, connecting with this will put the opponent into a juggle state for follow-up damage.

Once again, it can be jump-canceled on hit or block in order to continue your offense.

Crouching Medium Kick is central to his offense, Yang's attack of choice.

Like in SFIII:3S, it is special-cancelable, comboing into Tourou Zan (Fist Slashes) for example. I think you will find quite a lot of chances to make use of this.

From long range, Yang can use Far Hard Punch as a poke. It takes a little while to extend, but you can aim to land some good hits at the fingertip area.

Unique Attacks (Command Normals)

Yang has 2 Unique Attacks: Senpuukyaku (Whirlwind Leg) and Raigekishuu (Thunderbolt Kick).

The position at which the twins can start a Dive Kick is similar to Rufus's dive - it won't come out at extremely low altitudes, but the Light, Medium, and Hard versions will descend at varying angles. You may want to make skilled use of these dives to take the fight to close quarters. Senpuukyaku (Whirlwind Leg) is an off-the-ground overhead move. You can use it to evade a low attack while scoring a hit.

Target Combos

There are 3 target combos for Yang.

TC1 (Towards-jump Medium Kick -> Down-Towards + Medium Kick),
TC2 (Standing Medium Punch -> Standing Hard Punch -> Back + Hard Punch),
TC3 (Standing Light Kick -> Standing Medium Kick -> Standing Hard Kick).

TC1 is a Target Combo from Towards-jump Medium kick.

If you use the two strikes skillfully to land a hit on an opponent below you, you'll earn some considerable frame advantage.

TC2 is common to both brothers.

The final hit, activated with Back + Hard Punch, is super-cancelable.

TC3 starts with a Light Kick, so since it comes out fast, there are many opportunities to use this Target Combo.

If all the hits are blocked, Hard Kick will push the opponent back a good distance, so it can be difficult for them to land a counterattack.

TC3 once more includes Standing Medium Kick, but in this game it can be jump canceled. Please look for the possibilities that come from this.

That's as far as I go this time.

Next time I'd like to focus on special moves.

Well, see you next week!

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D Review

By: cinderkin Sep 6, 2011 | 5 Comments

With the Nintendo 3DS's recent price drop I got my hands on the handheld and a copy of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D. Is this a blast from the past, or does this fairy boy need to grow up and move on? Find out in the Gouki.com Review.

Remember the days of playing on your Nintendo 64 and getting Ocarina of Time for the first time? How hooked into the game you became, and how engaged into the story you were? Well fast forward 13 years to 2011 and having that same feeling hit you again. That’s right Jimmy’s Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time has returned in glorious 3D on the Nintendo 3DS. Is this remake of a classic worth your money, or should this game just remain a memory. Find out in the Gouki.com Review.

Story:

The story in Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time follows a young boy named Link (or whatever you want his name to be) through an epic quest involving fairies, sages, ocarinas, magic, and time travel. An evil man by the name of Ganondorf comes from the Gerudo Valley to the land of Hyrule to take over as king of the land. Link’s quest is to collect 3 spiritual stones and seek the princess of Hyrule. He finds out that he must obtain the Master Sword to stop the evil Ganondorf, but is too young to fulfill his quest. He then spends 7 years in a mystical place only to return to Hyrule and see it completely destroyed. Link then with the help of Sheik saves 6 sages and does battle with Ganondorf. Now most people have already played through Ocarina of Time numerous times and know the story well. In Ocarina of Time 3D everything is just as you remember it. Everything has been left intact story wise and you’ll feel right at home in this version too.

Gameplay:

The 3DS isn’t exactly the same as a N64 controller or a GameCube controller, but Ocarina of Time 3D does a great job with the systems control. The game uses the bottom touch screen for inventory management, map, and ocarina. This is the first time that you can hold 4 items plus the ocarina at the same time, instead of the usually 3 or 2 with ocarina. This comes in handy in the later stages when you need to change boots or use the lenses of truth on the fly. The controls take a few minutes to get used to, but you’ll get the hang of it in no time and be plugging away at the game just like before. As like before there is horse riding, sword slashing and Ocarina playing plus a bunch of puzzles to solve. This version also comes with Ocarina of Time Master Quest, which is a harder version of the game with new dungeon layouts. You basically get two games in one! Overall the gameplay and controls are quite impressive.

Visuals:

The look of Ocarina of Time is believe it or not better than its N64 and GameCube predecessor. The visual improvements are immediately apparent. The characters look more rounded out and less boxy than before. Link both young and old look different, in a good way. The 3D aspect also adds a nice touch to the games visuals. The entire game can be played in 3D and still be enjoyed, but I recommend only using the 3D during cut scenes. There are also other visual changes that have been added to this version of the game, such as with the bridge to the castle in the future looks like an actual golden bridge instead of a rainbow walkway. Bottom line is that the visual aspect of the game has been improved all around.

Audio:

One of the best things about Zelda games is the music. Koji Kondo’s original soundtrack hasn’t been messed with here in Ocarina of Time. From the classic Kakariko Village theme, to the Lost Woods, or the Gerudo Valley (I could listen to these all day) everything is represented just as you remember it. Link’s grunts and screams, the Ocarina tunes, or the constant annoyance that is Navi the fairy (hey hey, listen) are also portrayed correctly. Ocarina of Time 3D is exactly as I remembered it in the music department. I love it.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D is a great game for a handheld system. You get two games for the price of one, full 3D, and a Zelda game that is consider one of the greatest in the series. Everything is as you remember it, every secret, every heart piece, and every strategy. I loved this game as a kid and I love it now as an adult. This is currently the best game in the Nintendo 3DS lineup. If you haven’t played Ocarina of Time before, now’s the time to get it. If you loved it back in the day you’ll love it even more now.

It's here, another dose of Skyrim DLC for you Jimmys to get your hands on.

Centered around making you a domesticated hero of Skyrim, the Heartfire DLC adds the ability to purchase land, build a home, raise children, and other nonsense. You can even build gardens and fish while some lady takes care of it all as you go off killing dragons.

This doesn't seem like much fun to me considering how awesome Skyrim is. If you dig it though it's out now for $5.

So this game that showed us absolutely nothing at the VGAs other than the fact that it's not coming out till 2013 is getting the trilogy treatment. What the heck are they thinking. No one gives a crap about this game yet. zzzzzz

A press release regarding the project sheds light on the fact that inSANE is planned as a trilogy with “potential transmedia projects surrounding the games” also on the table.

“THQ is committed to creating great games by identifying the world’s most talented artists and providing them with the creative support to design innovative game play experiences,” said THQ Executive Vice President, Core Games Danny Bilson. “Guillermo is not only an incredibly gifted writer and film director, but also an avid gamer, and we are excited to bring his talents to our medium. We are confident his unique point of view will create visually stunning adventures, filled with rich and rewarding game play.”

“With this new series of video games, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality,” said del Toro. “THQ and Volition, Inc. are equally excited to make this vision of a completely new game universe into a reality.”

Anyone want to tell me why I should care about this game right now? It's so far off that I can't even be bothered with it. Remember Too Human? Years in development, a trilogy they said, but it bombed and the story will probably never finish.

Hey you want to work on a trilogy THQ? How about helping SEGA finish Shenmue for crying out loud.

Lucha Libre AAA Heroes of the Ring Review!!!!

By: Cinderkin Oct 21, 2010 | 10 Comments

Check out the Review by Cinderkin.

If I could describe Lucha Libre Heroes of the Ring in two words STRAIGHT TRASH would be it.

Summary:

Lucha Libre Heroes of the Ring is a complete load of garbage. If you thought John Cena was bad, Lucha Libre AAA makes him look like a godsend. With its horrible controls, broken gameplay, and announcing that repeats every couple of minutes, and only 30 wrestlers, you have to wonder how this game even hit the shelves. It almost feels as if the game is mocking the sport instead of praising it. Even the great La Parka and Apache couldn’t save this game. Why is this game so bad? Read on below to find out.
