The Elder Scrolls Online gets a release date

PC in April, Next-Gen in June.

The Elder Scrolls Online will be hitting your PC on April 4, 2014. It is tentatively slated to come to a PS4/XB1 near you in June 2014.

Bethesda recently released a video about character progression which looked pretty cool. The game is currently in beta, but Jimmys can't talk about that.

Here's another trailer that shows... well, I'm not sure what honestly, but it's got the release dates at the end and that's all I cared about. Enjoy.

X-men Arcade Review!

If I could describe the X-men Arcade game in one word it would be Disappointment.

Why you ask? Well I'll tell you why. I fondly remember going to the Arcade in San Diego California as a kid. Playing all sorts of games, blowing my hard earned money on good games, bad games, broken games (still pissed about those) and the best arcade games around. Back in the early '90s the top arcade games for me where the Beat 'Em Ups. The Simpsons Game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and who could forget the X-men Arcade game. Many of us had the 4-player cabinets in our local arcades, but some of us where lucky enough to have 6-player action at our fingertips... and just for a quarter (I miss those days).


I would spend hours beyond hours every week playing the X-men Arcade game. Meeting new people every time and having a blast. So I was stoked to find out that Konami was bringing this childhood classic back. At 800 MSP or $10 PSN I was sold. I bought this baby yesterday and to my surprise I was severely disappointed.

The game is exactly as I remember it, which is the problem. After 18 years I was expecting Konami to release an updated version, not just a smoothing filter. I wanted to have a remade X-men Arcade with updated sounds, graphics, and gameplay. Now I am not the person who hates the classics, or thinks they aren’t fun. My problem is that they could have had two games in one. X-men Arcade Classic, and a revamped version as well.

You have the choice between two version of X-men Arcade, USA and Japan. The Japanese version is better than the USA version solely because when you use a Mutant Power in the USA version it drains your life meter before using your energy orb. The Japanese version is the other way around. The USA version is much more difficult which would be a great challenge had the game had some sort of continue system. Instead you have unlimited lives, and can basically just spam Mutant Powers the entire time. Sure they take away your life energy, but who cares you can’t lose. Even online play has infinite continues. There is no way to change it either. So basically unless you’re like me and really want to try and relive the classic, you’ll try not to spam Mutant Powers.

My first play through was solo, and I beat it in 30 minutes. I spent $10 only to be jerked around for 30 minutes. This game welcomed me to die alright; I wanted to end my life and the game after playing it. The character selection is how you remember it, you can choose from; Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Night Crawler, and The Dazzler (yes she is a real X-men) each character has his/her own Mutant Power. Cyclops shoots laser beams from his eyes, Storm strikes her enemies with lightning, Wolverine slashes his claws at his enemies (lamest Mutant Power), Colossus goes into rage and destroys enemies surrounding him, Night Crawler teleports across the screen and destroys anyone in his path, and The Dazzler who uses sound frequencies to destroy her enemies.

For the most part of the game you are fighting your way through sentinel after sentinel with a few other enemies here and there. There are also eight boss characters, Pyro, Blob, Wendigo, Nimrod, The White Queen, Juggernaut, Mystique and of course Magneto. Each boss is basically a push over save Magneto. As one falls after another you move onto a new level. The story of this game is basically Magneto threatens the city with his army of sentinels and Kidnaps Professor X and Kitty Pryde. It’s up to the X-men to Go and Save the City as well as rescue X and Kitty.

It’s a pretty simple game, only using 3 buttons; Attack, Jump, and Mutant Power, which makes for an easy to pick up and play game. Online play is done well, with the option of playing 6-player drop in drop out co-op with relatively no lag. The only issue here is even on expert difficulty, 6 players can run through the game in under 15 minutes. It’s really hard to suggest spending $10 for such a short time of play.

While the X-men Arcade game is still a great classic in my heart, this new version is just plagued with not adding anything new to the game in 18 years. I had fun playing it, but I think it’s a waste of $10 Jimmys. Buy it if you’re a huge fan and have to get your hands on it, but for the rest of you out there just Demo it

E3 2011 quick take: Resistance 3 in 3D

I got a chance to play Resistance 3 at Sony's E3 2011 booth, here's my take.

FnJimmy and I were waiting in line to play some Resistance 3 at Sony's booth. We thought we were going to play some multiplayer. Turns out we were playing the campaign even though they had the TVs set up side by side like the do for all their MP demos (like Uncharted and Starhawk). The Sony rep points me at the second TV in the row, lucky me, I got the one with 3D enabled. I put the goggles on over my glasses, not particularly comfortable, but not too bad until I also try to put the headphones on, now I've got three things on my ears.

Anyway the game controlled and felt like I expected, complete with the Sony R1 instead of trigger to fire that I've come to hate and expect in every exclusive PS3 game. (Seriously, WTF?) 

I don't know if something was wrong with the 3D goggles (low battery?) or if all the E3 lights and flashes were interfering with the signal, but I had a bunch of cross talk, to the point that I had two reticules to aim through which obviously made targeting a bit of a trick. I wasn't sure if I should aim at the left, right, or split the difference. By the end of the demo... well I didn't stay for the end of the demo, I just quit after about 5 minutes as I did not want to spend the rest of my day at E3 with a splitting (see what I did there) headache.

Resistance seems like an above-average FPS in a market flooded with them, so I'm not super hyped about it (especially given the PS3 exclusive controls, I like my FPS on the 360).  I'm totally not excited for 3D to come to my house any time soon.

Resistance 3 ships September 6, 2011 for the PS3.

Sentinel May Not Be in Marvel vs. Capcom 3?

It appears that Ryota Niitsuma, Marvel vs. Capcom 3's producer, has disconfirmed Sentinel in an interview conducted with Eurogamer Espana (Google Translate link), which was originally written in Spanish.

This normally wouldn't be too big of a deal, but someone posting under the name Lupinko has been leaking information about MvC3 for some time, and has been extremely accurate to date, revealing numerous characters in advance. He claimed Sentinel and Hsien-Ko would be announced, but Niitsuma's statement today goes directly against one of his predictions.



Here's a translated version of the relevant paragraph from RyanCE.

Ryota Niitsuma: Indeed, we could not choose characters that were not on [Marvel's] list, and if there were some we wanted to use Marvel told us "do not pick that, take this one instead." In this sense, we wanted to bring back a couple of characters from MvC2, such as Juggernaut and Sentinel, but we could not.

Many people are currently split over who to believe on this since Lupinko has been so accurate to date, but Niitsuma is the title's producer.



Other things of note from the article include:

• The first DLC package won't be expensive. When asked about the schedule for DLC, Niitsuma said they haven't already planned this, but, "Potentially we could release a DLC [package] every two weeks..."

• Niitsuma talks about the possibility of releasing a balance patch once the game has launched, although Capcom has made other statements like this in the past for the Street Fighter 4 series, saying they can patch the game after wards, if needed.

• There's at least one character to be revealed besides the 36 member roster. This might be Galactus, as an unplayable boss.

Ubisoft Booth E3 2013 GJ vs FNJ Exclusive Video

GoukiJones & FnJimmy talk about Ubisoft & some random Jimmy walks thru the shot. E3 2013. Some fuckin' nuab walking thru the shot.

Shout out to Ubisoft, thank you for allowing us to raid your booth & check out all of the games. Well we didn't see Watch Dogs, but I don't need to waste time at E3 on a game that is coming out in the next couple of months. We saw it during the press conference & it pretty much looked the same last year & was still on schedule. That demo was going to be basically more of the same. 

We saw the Stick of Truth, now everybody remember this was a THQ game last year & was actually supposed to be released in March. Well THQ crashed & Ubisoft got the rights to this game. So I was interested to see how/if any of the game was changed. The last time I saw it was at SDCC. Now you can fight on the outside of instanced fights. Oh man, what am I trying to say. Say you're walking around in the over world, well in South Park you have the option to use a sling shot or whatever they had & take out 1 of the baddies, then run up to the guy next to him, touch him & then go into battle. I don't really know how well that is going to work in the game overall, but it seemed pretty smooth during the demo. BTW this game looks just like the show, it's amazing. Super hype!

AC17, skipped it. Don't care.

The car racing game where you're taking down money trucks. Looks cool. But it's cars, it's bullshit.

We saw the Guitar game. People will never play anything like Guitar Hero again, when you can play with a real guitar & actually learn a skill. It's expensive yeah, but just do what BatRastered says, go to the Pawn Shop & get some Jimmy ass guitar for like $40 bucks & start playing. 

The Division was the only really unique thing we saw. Unfortunately it was the same exact demo as the press conference. Maybe there was a little more explained to us, but basically the same shit. This game looks dope, we of course had tons of questions about how the open world & VS stuff works, but they weren't talking about any of that right now. Classic E3. Got some cool swag tho.

Madden 10 Review

Madden's back. Is it just more of the same or did the big boys come out to play this year?

Football season has officially begun! So that only means Cheerleaders, booze, bbqs, tailgates, and of course the next installment in the latest Madden 10 by EA Sports.

I know a lot of people say the same thing every year about EA and the Madden franchise, that its the same game with a new coat of paint or roster shuffles or what ever the case. I'm here to tell you why  Madden 10 is the best EA has offered in years and possibly the best football sim ever (yes NFL 2k5 included).

The theme for this year is fight for every yard and rightfully so as all die hard fans know its a game of inches just ask the 1999 Titans loosing by just a yard. Of course a lot of the new additions are the usual new roster better graphics and animations as they should be every year. Its always great to play a match and see a new tackle or new catch animation that you've never seen. But back to the theme, with this theme they introduced the new Pro-Tak feature which simply is a "gang tackle" that up to 9 other AI offensive or defensive can join in on and either push the pile forward or back. But this new feature is great when going up against those tough to tackle Power-backs such as Brandon Jacobs and of course Adrian Peterson just to name a couple. This can be can extremely crucial if used right which can either stop the ball carrier in their tracks instead of letting them scamper for a TD. Don't think that this will make the "D" over powerd against the "O" some backs like the two mentioned previously or elite players can every once in a while break free of a two or maybe even 3 player gang-tackle and can lead to Huge plays!

Now to the gameplay where I think Madden has done a great job in making it feel more true to life than previous years is the gamespeed and feel of how players run and break in and out of their cuts. The game has been slowed down from previous versions and I think its one of the best things they could've done. The game now feels as if you were actually watching a game on a Sunday afternoon. I think the best thing that can be said is it play's more like a sim and less like a "arcadey" football game.

Now to the online portion of Madden. This year they've finally decided to go all out with the online franchise with up to 32 teams playing a season head to head for a chance to get to the Super Bowl. The differnce from this years and last years Madden online franchise is you know have a more robust options menu its as if you were playing a single player franchise will all the options trades, free agents, highlights, full stats you name it its there its the complete online franchise.

With that said I think this is the best Madden ever and the best Football sim ever as well. The game has been out for almost 2 months, if you love football and don't have this go get it it's awesome!

ModNation Racers before and after the update

ModNation Racers was updated this week with faster load times and shortcuts to make the game more accessible and easier to play with friends. Does it work?

Early morning August 4, 2010 ModNation Racers had an update. The update is gonna have all types of new goodies. 

Load Time Improvements - While there are still loads, you will see decreases in load times throughout the game. Yes, yes. Later I will discuss why this did not work for us.

New “Casual” Difficulty Mode - We’ve added a “casual” difficulty setting in the options screen. Irrelevant, I only race online.

Challenge friends in XP Series - We’ve added the ability to invite your friends to XP Races & Series. Now this has me totally jazzed, team racing!

No more “Hot Lap” Cheaters - We fixed a bug that allowed players to cut the track and post unbeatable times in Hot Lap. Hot lap is great to learn any map real quick and I love being able to race ghosts of myself and other lap leaders.

Get into Online Races Quicker - Along with improved load times, we’ve removed the online game room from the ModSpot so you can get into the race faster. I can't believe the game shipped like this. I was screaming and yelling during the beta that this was not right.

Improved Server Stability - We’ve addressed issues to improve intermittent disconnects that players were experiencing. Yeah it would be nice if the servers worked better for any game online. Hell if Microsoft had just upgraded their shit, Jimmys would still be playing Halo 2 multiplayer online right now.

So let's get into yea? This first video is from the night before the update. I know most of you familiar with this game have probably seen similar videos that make fun of how long it takes for ModNation Racers to load, but hey it's me baby. Watch.

Of course yes, that is me pwnn. Did you notice that you are 6:45 into that video before the actual race starts. What do you think of my Jimmy mod?

Had a few more drinks, a few more races and then passed out. I think I left all the TV and PS3 on that night. I don't know, I definitely don't remember now. The videos pretty much speak for themselves.

The next morning we awoke early like around 11am to test the new update. Here watch this video. 

So yeah actually crashes the Playstation. It may be more complex than that, but the Xbox never is. So I don't understand.

At this point I've had some coffee, fresh pots. BatRastered has logged in and we're going to play a XP race together. Now BatRastered logs in and gets into a race and expects me to be ready and the game hasn't even loaded yet. Hilarity ensues.

And then I fuck it up in the end. Oops.

Ok so finally we get it to work. I get railed. Lookin' like a nuab.

I wasn't too happy about that finish and I wanted to turn the camera off ASAP! Did you notice my little note at the end. Yes indeed return to the gameroom. The next game will start immediately, well if there is enough people in the room and after you wait for the 1 minute timer to run out.

Here's where we were having a problem. The game seemed to only load the same 3 or 4 maps and most of the time back to back. So if you were not paying attention, you could be racing the same race over and over. Even vetoing the tracks kept us in the same group of 3 or 4 maps. Finally I switched us to XP Series and that solved the problem.

ModNation Racers is a PS3 Exclusive. The kart handling in the game is incredibly similar to Mario Kart 64 and I absolutely love it. With this update you get the ability to race against your friends online competitively. Something Mario Kart has never allowed you to do this smoothly. Get on the PS3 Jimmy and race with Team Gouki! Check my PSN ID yo!!
