A brief discussion on the recent price drops and what it means for us, the gamers.
Price cuts, I love price cuts!
Recently Sony announced the new PS3 slim model priced at $299. A few weeks later Microsoft reduced the price of the XBox 360 elite to $299 as well. Both represent a $100 cut off their earlier prices. So who wins this round?
For Sony, a price cut was long overdue. They had third party game developers screaming for it and threatening to stop publishing PS3 games. Now the PS3 slim represents a great value, including a Blu-Ray player and internet browser with their game system which comes fully equipped with Wi-Fi built in. The new unit does not, however, include backwards compatibility with PS2 games. This is a bit of a problem due to the lack of quality exclusive titles for the system (I count about 4).
Microsoft, on the other hand, already had a $299 system, and this "price cut" really represents nothing more than a minor hardware upgrade (from a 60GB hard drive to 120GB). The 360 runs off of standard DVDs, but has Netflix streaming to back that up. It also has backwards compatibility but doesn't really need it. The elite unit still does not have Wi-Fi built in and Microsoft wants an absurd $99 (MSRP) for the add on. This is dumb considering you have to pay a subscription for XBox live and the online features of the system are what really keeps it ahead of the PS3 in my opinion.
Wouldn't it be great if Sony and Microsoft would exchange strategies on these units? Microsoft would pack in Wi-Fi and ditch backwards compatibility, whereas Sony would cut out the Wi-Fi chip and replace it with the PS2's emotion engine for full compatibility. What a wonderful world that would be, playing to both systems strengths. (The 360's online system and Sony's huge back catalog.) Oh well, it was a thought.
I'd have to say, that if you don't own either system, the PS3 represents a better value right now. The problem for me is that I already own a 360 and there's no reason to play a game available for both systems on the PS3, whereas on the 360 I get achievements. For most people, I think the choice will come down to "what system do most of your friends have?", for the simple reason of wanting to play online with them.
Let's hear your thoughts on these price cuts in the comments you bucnh of Jimmys!

The long awaited Welcome Back Program is here, a long with some FAQ.
A while back Sony announced we would get free stuff in the Welcome Back Program This was a bunch of stuff from PS Home, 2 free games for PS3 and PSP and 30 days free of PS+. Also, they have lame free movies for the weekend and tons of bonuses for PS+ people. This is good and all but there are CONSTANT errors going on within the Store, I don't think many people can get a hold of these games at the moment. Some people can't get inside the store, others booted out, some download the game but it isn't showing up and a few other problems that need to be kinked out.Read full story...

Have you have been contemplating buying a PS3? Soon is the time to buy it. Tuesday Feb 22nd is the release of Killzone3 ...and the ps3/killzone 3 bundle! You get 160GB PS3 for the regular $299.99 a long with a brand new Killzone 3, that's pretty hard to say no too. Also if you are not familiar with the other 2 Killzone games http://www.youtube.com/user/IGNentertainment has uploaded a video explaning Killzone 1-2 in a few minutes.
Playstation 3 users rejoice! PSN is back online after 3 weeks, well sort of. Some users in specific regions are signing into the playstation network and asked to download the 3.61 update. While this is the only option right now PSN should be back up soon,
The restoration of PSN service requires a firmware update on PS3 consoles and requires users to change their passwords. Sony is also offering customers free enrollment in identity theft protection programs in countries where they are available, the company said.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kazuo Hirai offered a video statement announcing the restoration of PSN services that began with an apology to users for the outage.
So tell us what you think in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!

The new trailer for Season 2 of The Tester is on the net. I'll watch it, no doubt. It looks just as bas as last year, just now ... Even less actual gameplay.
The show is more about jumping around and crawling through dirt than it is actually testing games. The cast looks semi decent with a few possible hot chicks in there. There's a GT5 console set up in the house. It's only the Prologue version though. Nubfarm. I'm telling you it's big brother for gamers and instead of winning big money like 250k or even a million, these Jimmys get a JOB and 5000 bucks. Watch the trailer!
Looks like Playstation Plus gets a head start
PS3 users with playstation plus will be able to save 150 megabytes to the Sony servers.

This is just another step forward for our current sytems and may be a preview of what to expect on the next generation. By itself this isn't that big of a deal, but it just shows how fast the companies are implementing new technology as it presents itself. What would you like to see make it on the systems next? We already have web browsing, netflix, and countless other things.
Don't be a Jimmy, let's hear some ideas.
He says he got the yellow light of doom, but with PSN down I'm sure a few of you can enjoy this.
I suggest hitting mute as this guy is going to offend some of you possibly.
Desert Eagle tears the guts out of the PS3, but when he goes for an automatic you can tell he plays Call of Duty online.

Don't want to just buy PSN cards for points? Sony has promotions with Edge and Shick now for your DLC needs!
Killzone 3 has been doing a slurpee promotion, but now Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5 and inFamous 2 are having a whole new set of awesome. Edge Shaving Gel and Shick Quatro products will have special attatchments to them. Purchasing these manly products gets you DLC for the game shown on it. The DLC are as follows :
- KILLZONE 3- Retro Map pack with 2 levels OR 3 unlock points to use on any gun/ability ( same as slurpee rewards). Maps are Salum Market and Blood Gracht
- GRAN TURISMO 5- A customized Chevy Camaro SS “Edge Special” for Gran Turismo 5
- inFAMOUS 2- Sniper blast, which will be a narrow AOE.
Buy some shaving gel and get a Sniper Blast, win win situation right? Leave a comment below on what you guys think of these promotions. I'm loving it, first it was getting bonus xp in Killzone 3 for buying a slurpee, now rewards for buying a new razor? ( which I NEEDED) Keep in mind that it isn't a rip-off, Killzone 3 map pack costs $5, some of this stuff costs about the same.
Playstation Network has been offline for about 2 weeks and that simply sucks. See how it has affected my play-styles and view of offline gaming. What have you been doing with your PS3 the last two weeks?
Oh How I should have traded it in for a PRAYstation while I had the chance; joking. PSN has been down a while as all of you may know, and it sucks. Right before PSN went down, I bought PS cards to download ArcanaHeart 3, MoonDiver dlc pack 1, and Steel Rain Map Pack for Killzone3. What has really bummed me out was the ArcanaHeart part , no rhyme intended. Could have been learning a new game while PSN was offline. Whch leads me too the off-line gaming I've been doing ever since.
Been buying Odin's Beer offline in Marvel Vs.Capcom 3. For the first time, I've been using training mode as a vs. match (taking away health regenerations and treating it like a real match). Most people I know have been busy with finals week, so not being able to get together to play and not have the option to play online is a double whammy. Playing certain CPU teams on highest difficulty over and over again has made me realize a few things. Fist, I am impatient and screw up pretty badly when people have great defense ; do some unsafe stuff. Second, I don't push block physical attacks at the right situation too often and last, CPU's have the stupidest (and by stupid I mean amazingly beastly) hit-confirms ever. But why does this matter? CPUs aren't as good as high level people that i for sure, but it has definitely stepped up by game. Knowing one mistake leads into a ridiculous combo that won't be missed and will most likely be maximized, knowing as soon as I press a button the game reads it and reacts ridiculously fast to what I do has definitely made me improve.
Bulletstorm....hooooooooly sh*t I put you in my PS3 again?! Yea, even though MVC3 has taken up most of my offline time, I played a little Echo Mode. Echo was the "multiplayer" game mode where you play parts of the single player and post your highscore on leaderboards. So basically it is only part of a full level, and no cutscenes ; lame. But I didn't care to go through the story again and this was actually fun. Just nonsense violence and remembering how fun it was when i first got the game, messing around with Skillshots. I just had to take a break from the game after how disappointed it made me, and come back to it realizing how much i enjoyed it ; like a bad spouse. The best part was the ultimate eyegazm of the game. When i first bought it, and played on my supr old half-assed TV, I was blown away by the graphics. Last week I got my first HDMI tv with the HD cables... Breathetaking.
Even though I've been obsessed with MVC3 on/offline, I still love SSF4. But the CPU in ssf4 isn't nearly as annoying in Marvel, or good. This lead to me being incredibly bummed out, because the SSF4 players I know work when I am off work, good stuff. Luckily for me, Arcade Edition recently game to Maui (FINALLY!!!!) It was incredibly fun; not really. Was nice seeing first hand how my characters changed and how the new ones felt, but I am a pad player for ssf4. And the only stick I can kind of play on it is the mvc3 from gouki.com ;)
(Which is constantly used for mvc3, thanks again guys <3)
But the arcade parts we received are complete ass. Instead of a ball-type stick, it's the long joystick type and the buttons are old-crappy re-used ones from the old SF4 machine (or so it seems). In all AE was cool, got to play with a friend who was beasting with E.Ryu but I don't like paying $1 a game on a uncomfortable layout.
I was so bored at one point, I played with one character at a time on Moon Diver, slowly leveling them up (so much faster online). Luckily for me, one night some friends weren't busy, and we hardcore grinded out some Moon Diving. Been a while since we had the chance and simply was loads of fun. Lots of yelling "OH DUDE" and" shi....NOOOOOO" . Plenty of hype over hack n slash craziness. but even with all the levels we gained, still couldn't beat that stupid Firebird boss....
Last but not least...AMMMMMERRRRRIIIICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Red Dead Redemption was another game whos graphics blew me away on my old crap TV. That being said you already know I had a second eyegazm on my new one. Besides that, I went back to Undead Nightmare and tried to make it a bit more challenging. The first time I played through it it felt way too easy after the first few towns are cleared. So this time I only used the first pistol and a shotgun, and walked into the largest hordes of zombies I can find, seeing how long I can last with carefully aimed shots and barrel rolls. It didn't keep my interest for long but was pretty fun anyway.
For the most part, that concludes my adventures as I get deeper into my finals in school . Also http://blog.us.playstation.com/ said some services will be up this week, seeing that it's Thursday I really hope that PSN will be up before Saturday. I am big on online gaming ever since I got my PS3. I used to play gamecube, and when I got a Wii I rarely went online because of how bad it was. So I used to appreciate off-line gaming then, but when I got a PS3 that changed. I can see how I've been spoiled by always wanting to play other people, and how that is a needed experience for me. PSN being down does suck, but it allowed me to enjoy some simplicities of offline that I've been ignoring. Hope you enjoyed reading about my experiences, have anything similar? Share your downed network experience and leave a comment/ write a story. Don't be a jimmy.

Everyone has seen the Kevin Butler commercials about how "great" the PS3 is. I've never understood them, because when someone tells me the console does everything I just laugh. Now the truth has been freed, and this new commercial tells the truth about PS3
Be sure to grab your PS3 for only $299. Hurry up and experience the greatest console of all time. Don't be a Jimmy!
