SSF4 AE Changes to Blanka, Abel, Gen, Makoto.

By: Cinderkin Nov 22, 2010 | 6 Comments

The latest Japanese Super Street Fighter 4 development blog listing changes for old cast members has been posted. This week's entry focuses on Blanka, Abel, Gen and Makoto.

Blanka

Unique Attacks

• Rock Crusher (Toward + Medium Punch) has less recovery. Rock Crusher, into Far Standing Light Punch into Beast Roll is possible now.

• Beast Slide (Down-Toward + Hard Punch) has less active frames, as a result the whole animation time is shorter. Also, his hittable box during the recovery of this move has been increased.

• His Forward Hop (Toward + 3x Kick) has more grounded frames of animation during start up, making him easier to grab out of it.

Special Moves

• The hittable box of his Beast Roll has been widened in size while rolling around, and the distance traveled after having it blocked has been altered. Distance on recovery from a blocked Beast Roll is now Light Punch and EX longest. Medium Punch, midlength, Hard Punch, shortest. So it is necessary to plan which one to use at which distance more so than it is now.

• EX Backstep Rolling's (Rainbow Ball) forward distance has been reduced a little, so it's harder to escape from the corner. It is still possible to move forward and back based on joystick movement, though.

• EX Electricity has much faster start up now, so it's easier to use.

Abel

• 2nd hit of Abel's Crouching Hard Punch has a smaller hitbox, both upward and downward.

• Tornado Throw damage reduced.

• Roll lost some of its hit invincibility at the end of it, making it easier to punish. There was no change to the recovery frames.

• Ultra 1 had a 10% damage reduction. Ultra 1's new damage would range from 309-450. In SSF4 it was 343-500.

• Ultra 2 10% damage reduction, slower startup, super armor gets removed when Abel starts to run forward and there's a longer recovery time when you cancel out of it. New damage totals for Ultra 2 should range from 295-440. In SSF4 these were 328-480.

Gen

Mantis Style

• Two Target Combos have been added in. 1st: Crouching Light Kick into Crouching Medium Kick. 2nd: First hit of Standing Hard Punch into Standing Medium Kick.

• Both Medium Kicks can be Canceled now, so go for more damage by Canceling into his Specials.

• Standing Light Punch's hittable box from his elbow and onward has been deleted, so it's harder to get hit out of now.

• Crouching Medium Punch's start up is faster, so it's possible to Link from Standing Light Punch and Crouching Light Punch.

• Crouching Medium Punch can now be Canceled, providing good setups into his Hands special on hit or block.

• Standing Hard Kick's range slightly increased. There is no hittable box from his ankle, so it might be useful as a footsie tool.

• Ultra 2 downward hitbox improved, so it has less chance to whiff.

Other Stuff

• Traveling speed for Crane Style's Ultra 2 is faster, making it easier to connect with now.

• During backdash, he's airborne right after invincibility wears out.

• Gen received no nerfs.

Makoto

Normal Moves

• Crouching Light Kick has more range.

• Standing Light Kick is Kara Cancelable during its start up animation. The Kara Karakusa is possible again.

• Crouching Hard Kick hit box extended out in front of Makoto, and the hittable box has been lowered slightly, making it easier to use as an anti air.

• Crouching Hard Punch has slightly more active frames.

• Toward + Light Punch has a 3 frame startup (formerly 4 frames).

Special Moves

• EX Hayate (Dash Punch) now breaks armor and has a slightly faster start up.

• Opponent can no longer do a quick get up after Makoto connects with a Hard Punch or EX Oroshi (Overhead Chop). It's more useful now in resets and wake up situations.

• Fukiage (Upwards Punch) when Makoto's arm is fully extended, the hittable box from her chest up has been almost completely removed. Downward attack box has been extended as well, so there are now almost no situations where it trades or is stuffed. It still can't hit grounded opponents, though. The start up for all versions has been improved so it's more useful than it is now.

• EX Tsurugi (Axe Kick) is now like Cammy's EX Cannon Strike, in that it can be done very low to the ground, i.e. an Instant Axe Kick. It takes practice, but since it is a 2-hit special that makes grabs whiff and hits as an overhead, it'll be more interesting to use in offensive/defensive situations.

• Ultra 1 damage distribution has been changed. It still does the same total damage, but you will see the difference during combo damage and damage scaling based on life left. Apparently, this should result in it doing more damage.

• Ultra 2 has a faster startup time making it easier to counter Fireballs with.

Other Stuff

• Makoto's stamina is now 1,000, which is the average stamina rating in the game.

• Forward and back dash are faster, total animation frames were decreased.

• Now a combo such as a Level 1 Hard Punch Hayate (Dash Punch), Focus Attacl Dash Cancel, Crouching Light Kick (and other stuff) into Light Punch Hayate is possible, because of the changes to her Dash speed. Mixing this in with her Grab and Choke (Karakusa) makes this a powerful grab or hit tool.

No, the most important thing is that everyone knows more about Super Street Fighter IV, so forget the beach, we gave it our all for SSFIV promos!

This week, together with the battle planner we'll be talking about the adjustments to Cammy, Fei Long, Sakura, Rose, Gen, and Dan!

EVO 2010 "Rockin Shenanigans" wrap-up

By: goukijones Jul 12, 2010 | 3 Comments

First EVO ever for Gouki.com and honestly I was overwhelmed from the get go. I'll never forget my first Super Street Fighter IV EVO world championship.

Day 1 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas for EVO 2010 fighting game world Championship. Like I said, this was my first EVO and I had no idea. I knew there was going to be a lot of Jimmys there, but 1700 just for the Street Fighter IV tournament. Holy Macarole! Gouki.com had one rep there in the tournament, Nififf [Chun Li], who placed just outside of the semi-final pool. He only need to win 2 more fights(I may be incorrect,) then survive a Daigo showdown and he would have been in the Semis. Unfortunately a well played Rufus and Gouki stopped him before he had a chance to fight THE BEAST DAIGO. Check out Nififf's fights. Click here.

Day 2 was all about the Semi-finals. I watched every single match, from the comfort of my own computer chair. I didn't make it out the second day, but that doesn't mean I missed anything. The announcers are quite entertaining.

And I quote ...

"Gamer Bee is rockin' Adon!" and "Mike Ross is rockin' Honda"

"Rufus coming out with some immediate shenanigans." and  "Looks like Ken is lying low with some muted shenanigans."

Seriously great stuff, the announcers are very knowledgeable and fun to listen to.

As far those actual semi-final match ups. Amazing stuff. Only one really off beat character and that was Gamer Bee [Adon]. Really super fun to watch his Adon. Honda and Gouk are boring to me. Even worse is the none jumping, constant fireball chucking, boring ass Ryu played by Daigo. Rufus, Ryu, Honda and Chun Li were the main fighters that everyone seemed to use. Isn't there like 35 characters in the game. Maybe something is wrong here. I didn't see one Street Fighter 3 character the entire 3 days of EVO.

Day 3. The day of the grand finals. I woke up early and watch some of the Melty Blood finals on the stream. That looks like a cool fighter, from 15 years ago in some hidden arcade in Japan. Doesn't make it a bad game, just seems out of place. After that I watched to see if that stupid octopus had predicted the winner of the World Cup. Guess what he did. Germans should fucking throw that thing from their tallest building. J/K I love animals and stuff.

I finally arrived at EVO on Day 3 right at the end of the Tatsunoko VS Capcom finals. I stood in the back and watch the big screen from there. The crowd was going crazy. I don't know too much about TvC, I do know I want to play it more. The gameplay and level of competition at EVO for it was incredible. The game looks amazing. While I was lost in the thought, the match ended. The TvC tournament was over. Jimmys sitting down in the crowd started to move around and shuffle. I made my move to the front to get some good seats. 10 rows back from the main screen Jimmy! I smell Justin Wong eating cookies he had stuffed in his pockets. FNJimmy showed up a few minutes later and Nififf was behind him.

Now it was time for the SSFIV women's invitational. The worst part about this was the obnoxious fucks behind me constantly screaming out nonsense. Who the girls should pick, how they should fight, and when to do the ultra. Maybe I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm pretty sure the four female finalist would probably kick my ass at SSFIV. I'm also pretty sure that the Jimmys sitting behind me, shouting obscenities at the stage would get their ass kicked as well. Throughout the night these Jackasses continued to show no respect to anyone on stage and just embarrass the community. Reh-tards!

We got through the Street Fighter II HD remix pretty fast, I think took a shit during this one. Tekken 6 is where it really started to take a dive. Now Tekken 6 has like 40+ characters, during the grand finals I only saw five. Law, Steve, Julia, Lars, and a fat American named Bob were the only characters used in the finals. I think I saw Bryan Fury once, maybe. It was like watching the same match over and over. On top of all of that, Tekken 6 fights go to best of 5. I'm halfway through my flask of whiskey at this point. Best of 5 per fight and then best of 3 per match. So imagine that Law Vs Steve fight for the fifth time going all 3 fights and it comes down to the last round. I really had no idea what was going on at this point, I was running out of whiskey.

The producer of Tekken 6 then came on stage and called out the producer of Super Street Fighter IV. The two, with the help of a translator(that couldn't pronounce EVO) exchanged in some Japanese banter which for the most part seem to only confuse and upset the crowd. After that it was time for the Marvel VS Capcom 3 exhibition. They brought Justin Wong on stage and a few other big name Street Fighter players to do an exhibition. I watched one fight of this and decided to go for a walk. Jimmy and cruised the Forum Shops at Ceasars, the scenery there is amazing.

The time has finally come. We had been sitting there for the better part of 6 hours that day waiting for the Super Street Fighter IV EVO 2010 World Championship. A lot of things are blurry to me at this point so please bare with my recollection.

Here we go again with the same five characters. Ryu, Chun Li, Honda, Akuma and what's this another Japanese game with a fat American ... RUFUS! Now I hate Ryu, properly used he can just sit back and wait for you to come at him or just bury you with fireballs. Daigo is a master at that. Sad face. Bored. Rufus did seem to have a slight advantage on getting over RYU, but that didn't stop Daigo from going to the Championship round with no losses. Gamer Bee[Adon] as I mention early was incredible to watch and made quick work of most devastating Hondas. In the end though Gamer Bee could not defeat the Mike Ross Honda and Gamer Bee was eliminated. I think.

Anyway, Fruity Ricky ... I mean Ricky Ortiz, is there some debate whether this guy is gay or not? He waved to the crowd with BOTH HANDS. Gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. For a gay guy by the way he raips at Street Fighter. Ricky did get the biggest pop of the night from the crowd when he defeated the Korean player Infiltration to advance to the finals. Check out this video.

So it's Fruity Ricky VS Daigo the Cheese Beast in the grand finals. I believe it had to go 3 out of 5, but I lost count quickly. Ricky put up a good fight, but in the end Daigo just did what he does best. He sat back and waited for Ricky to make his move and Daigo pressured him. It didn't even go 5 matches. Daigo won 3-1. The crowd was extremely disappointed. I wasn't, I kinda saw this coming. A Japanese player who uses the safest character in the game, a game made in Japan ... beat a fat American(Rufus) in his own country. So congratulations to Daigo for winning EVO 2 years in a row. Let's see how you(Daigo) do in the first ever Japan EVO in September.

Bonus clip: FNJimmy impersonates Fruity Ricky errrrr EG Ricky Ortiz.

Thanks to everyone at EVO2K for inviting Gouki.com to the event. We wish you the best of luck in Japan and we'll see you next year right back here in Las Vegas. Don't be a Jimmy!

No SSF4 AE for home consoles? AE is unbalanced? and SEX SELLS!

By: iorilamia Feb 24, 2011 | 11 Comments

Recent interview with Yoshinori ono is looking grim...but Japan sells for Catherine are at the top of the charts!

In this weeks Famitsu Magazine with an interview with Ono , he said there are no plans for home version of AE. Ontop of that he said certain characers in AE were made strong, " having such a character helps to build community and competitive spirit" Ono says. That was followed by him saying that home ssf4 was super balanced and no character was over powered.  Even though he said there is no plan for AE home, he did not disconfirm Yun,Yang, E Ryu and Oni as DLC, he just didn't comment on it. This definately seems like we will have some sort of AE character DLC, but not the character changes. Also ssf4 was a great balanced fighter...compared to other fighters, but as its own game I felt lots of unbalance issues with lower tier characters vs people that had so many ultra options, juggles and damage output. Most people agree that AE is far more balanced...or is Ono just trolling as usual?

Is this news bumming you out, leaving you with a spark of hope or is it just nonsense, leave a comment below.

Edit: Someone asked ono on twitter about consoles not getting AE DLC and he said "Over My Dead Body" or something like that. -Cinderkin
