Today we look into the uniqueness of girls who play video games.....for real. Not the "Show me how to play, it looks like fun" type but the kind that make you say "Whoa there's a girl at this tournament?".

While over the years the quantiity of girls playing video games has increased, the idea of girls playing competitively still brings a feeling of astoundment. We've all seen it, a girl walks in to pick up the controller or gets online and you hear her voice and immediately you wonder "Who's this girl?'. Even more so at tournaments, guys stare in wonder at the girl with a tournament fight stick.

Many times people may often wonder why enough girls don't play video games. And in truth, it has to do more with responsibility than anything else. To be frank, most girls don't play video games quite like guys do due to the fact that their concerns are directed towards survival. Bills of the house, food for the family, and work. Other activities that draw their attention are shopping, exercise, friends, and don't even get me started on boyfriends. Some girls may never really get into video games because of these factors and may view them even as a loss of time. Others, play them casually, getting together with friends and usually playing video games that involve a large group of people such as Guitar Hero, Mario Party, etc.

But while some girls may not play video games, there's no denying the growing appeal in video games, and slowly but surely, girls are beginning to have an increase of interest. More commonly than most, girls begin to play video games usually when they are introduced to them. With a large number of them due to their boyfriends. Lots of men have tried it at least once. They have a love for their woman and a love for video games. Why not put them both in the same room? Joy! :D From here on out it goes one of two ways depending on your method, you either do it wrong and beat them at EVERYTHING xD resulting in the girl losing total interest in video games because she's "not good" at them, or, you start them off on a gradient. A game that's simple and they end up winning. Everyone enjoys winning, that's a simple fact. If the girl wins at a video game, it will bring that feeling of accomplishment and by consequence increase her confidence in playing, resulting in her being more open to play more. As her skill increases, you can introduce her to more complicated games and so forth.

But what if the girl in question is already good? What if she's damn good!? These types of girls have always had great appeal to guys of the gaming world. Looks and personality of course play a role, but it's like 100 instant brownie points if a girl is great at video games. Many times if the girl is appealing enough, guys will try their luck and try to talk to them. Confident guys usually get a conversation going. But as any one guy who's tried to play mack daddy pimp would know, you never go in assuming she's yours from the get go. Of course, don't be so shy you don't even talk to her like 65% of the guys at tournaments do xD These girls are like any other girl aside from the fact that they have video games in common with you. They like to be treated with respect and like it when you make them laugh. Under some circumstances though, video games have brought men and women together and have even resulted in marriage. Such examples have been seen where they met online while playing a game. Personally, I have a friend named Jay whose mother met her current fiancee on XBOX LIVE.

In conclusion, girls that play video games are a pretty solid group, ranging from casual to hardcore. I myself can appreciate a girl who has the committment to be lethal at a video game. It makes it easy to kill two birds with one stone, you have a girl over AND you get to play video games. About the only thing missing is a feast. But then again, as gamers, who doesn't have a feast after we play :D

This is a video about a japanese girl playing competitively at Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. I admire her patience and technique.
