What's a golden key? How do you get more? What kind of weapons can you get?
In Borderlands 2, there is a special golden loot chest in the city of Sanctuary (the main "friendly" city in the game). You can only open this chest with a golden key. If you pre-ordered the game through any of the participating retailers that gave you the "premiere club" you got one golden key in that package. If you sign up for Gearbox's "Shift" program you get one more free key. I've got both of these.
Gearbox has stated that to get more keys you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter (@gearboxsoftware). Yesterday evening, Randy Pitchford, Gearbox's CEO, tweeted out some codes for 5 keys that were only good for the fist 1000 people to redeem them. You can see the Xbox code tweet here at 7:28 pm (Pacific time), I was online and ready to go when he tweeted that, thanks to his PS3 tweet 2 minutes earlier. Upon entering the code and successfully submitting it, Pitchford tweeted the following, just one minute after the Xbox code tweet at 7:29 pm.
"Wow - PC gone, like, instantly. 360 should be gone by the time you read this. PS3 will last a few minutes, it appears."
Looks like I got lucky, Jimmy!
Anyway, since my Siren class was at level 30 something and was just about ready to beat the first playthrough, I decided I needed a couple of new guns at this stage of the game and hey, I had 7 keys to blow now! So I head over to the chest intending to just spend one key and get some new guns and save the rest for level 50. I open the box and see... two class mods... for the assassin. :( WTF? It's cool that you can trade items between your characters in BL2 and I do have an assassin build (at level 11), but I wanted something I could use for the run to the last boss.
So I decided to use a second key... this time I got a very nice purple shock SMG that did way more damage than any other SMG I was using and a nice semi-auto purple level assault rifle. The rifle didn't do anything special, but I needed a non-elemental gun of a different ammo type to round out my build and this gun was fairly accurate and had a scope on it , plus its semi-auto nature, made it almost like a sniper rifle. 1200 damage didn't hurt either.
I still have 5 keys left that I will probably either use for level 50 on the siren or when my other classes reach the end of the first play through.
FWIW, Randy Pitchford says the next giveaways will be either "massive" or "unlimited, but for only an hour"... which will be cool. You should have some advanced knowledge of when it will happen, again according to Pitchford on twitter:
"Massive redemption code via official Gearbox Software twitter and facebook will be planned, announced and coordinated. Not a surprise."
So stay tuned, Jimmy! You can bet Gouki.com will be on top of the "massive redemption code" when it is announced. Follow @goukinews Jimmy!
