Community PlayStation PLUS, is it worth it?

PlayStation Plus is $50 a year, but what exactly do you get? Iorilamia explores PS+ DLC, specials and the value that it carries.

PlayStation Plus is 3 months for $17.99 or  one year for $49.99. Doesn't seem too bad, you can imagine you're paying for something like XBL. Here are the cool perks you get. Or don't get ...

Each Month/Week- Free PSN games, minis and PS One Classics from the PSN Store. Dynamic Themes, avatars and add-ons (basically dlc)

Sucks because, Usually the PS1 games are crap games you most likely didn't play or want to play. Mini's are short-term games you would play on your cell phone usually . Free PSN games are basically games that are about $2-$15 for regular users and suck most of the time. The add-ons are mainly for random games you most likely don't have, and it's not always free. Avatars and themes...cool. Also the games are not their forever. One decent discount/free game can be up for a week, and the next few months will be complete trash games. And wtf, ps1 games are cool but they are backward compatible, the latest version of ps3 can only play like 10% of ps2 games, those should be what they are giving you.

You do get to try demos before regular users do and you get discounts on psn games.

Here is why I hate PS+ the most. Once you stop paying for it, you loose everything except avatars and themes (the lamest part of PS+...) I don't get it. You get "free" games you just paid 50 bucks for and they are all complete ASS, since you think your getting a good deal you go download and discount buying happy over thins you normally would never buy and if you don't keep paying, you loose the few games you actually did enjoy. Heres the thing, if you re-start your subscription, you get all your stuff back. I want you to keep your eye on PS+ deals (because they can be nice sometimes) Along with the PSN weekly Tuesday update, IGN covers all the deals for you.

What do you guys think about PS+? Have you tried it? Do the games sound appealing to you?

The reason I did not buy it: because I was following IGN's updates for a while to see if it was for me...most of the "free" games your getting are only worth a few bucks and aren't something I would spend time playing. Most not all. So in the end it would be a waste of money for me, especially since I don't care about themes, avatars or demos for games I'd never buy. Not being able to keep games is stupid. Also I have a few friends with it, after I saw a lot of the junk they downloaded I was further convinced into not caring about PS+. Flush it!

And now  Cinderkin, the internet explodes.

This sounds terrible. Instead of saying "how do we make a great service like XBL?" someone at Sony said "How can we squeeze a few bucks a month out of our users without really giving them anything?"

Didn't xbox try to do a diamond account thing? I remember signing up for it years ago. Did anyone else try for it?

Sounds like a load of crap. Here's "free" stuff. Just keep giving us money and you can have it.

You are just renting their stuff.

@ Phresh

The Diamond thing was free to gold members, and it was for getting coupons at fast food places and stuff. I had one and never used it. Pretty dumb.

Consider that most people only use PSN for addons or DLC, its not necessarily a great deal right now. When PSN has more variety on what the service can offer, the PSN+ will shine. For now.. no.

Sounds like a cheap attempt at coping XBL but failing miserably. Sony really needs to focus on their Online services if they wish to release a PS4 anytime soon. With gaming moving more and more into the realm of team play or player vs player having a streamlined online environment will be key to gamers. I think that in the future now that blue-ray is nearing it's death and streaming HD video is taking over, I feel that systems that require you to purchase physical copies of games will fail. People like browsing through games and just picking one out to play from their couch. I see a future where you buy a system and pay a monthly fee for access to a library of games that you can play whenever you want or pay a smaller price for downloaded games that you keep on small micro SD cards. Player created games will also start making their way into homes soon since there will no longer be issues with production of discs. Downloadable games from amateur game studios will be a big part of the advancement of gaming.

i think that getting to try a game before the original users is fucked if sony wants to hit home they have to make something happen now sony or will be going out of buisness living the people wondering what those games are like is fucked up i mean sony and playstation dont have that much sreet credibility xbox at least lets platnium users download without having a legit gold account or gold card so i think sony has alot to think about if they considering leaving the poor playstation users out there

kof2012 I think you need to breath. That was the longest run on sentence I have ever read. I'm thankful I didn't try reading it out loud or I may have passed out before reaching the mid mark.

@kof-Well they get to try it because they paid all this money for it, lol. If they think a bunch of crap-ass downloads and early demos is worth $50,I'm not mad at them wasting cash.

And yes, that was a intense paragraph-sentence.

I get the idea of milking your users for "premium" content, but PSN service being free was a big advantage over XBL because you didn't have to pay to play online. I guess we can expect to pay on either system when the next generation comes.

Playstation PLUS is just a BS version of what Xbox players have to pay for anyway, it's just that this is now some half-assed version because Playstation users don't HAVE to get Playstation PLUS in order to play online. I'll agree that the games and trailers and all that crap that come for 'free' aren't fantastic and until they figure out a way to actually make people go "Hot Damn, i fucking want PLAYSTATION PLUS! *Explosion in background as sharks and apes high five*" Then i really don't think that smart people will even CONSIDER getting Playstation PLUS.
