Star Wars: The Old Republic ranting

I haven't even played this game yet (aside from the occasional convention demo), and I'm already mad about it. Great job, EA!

I pre-ordered my copy of SWTOR from Amazon, and it arrived early. I was excited to try it out, so I opened it logged into my EA/Origin account which I had already created in anticipation of playing the beta (which I was never able to sign in to), and put in the code to unlock my retail copy and 30 free days. Everything was working fine, then I went to launch the game and it told me I didn't have an "active subscription". WTF?

It turns out, even though I paid $60 for the game, even though I've entered the code and I'm supposed to have 30 free days, they want me to input my credit card and pick an auto-renewing subscription in order to play. Leave aside the fact that I don't really want to put my credit card into a new and untested service for fear of it being hacked, but why should I have to do this in order to play the game for the time I've already paid for? Come on EA... are you really that desperate for people to forget they have auto-renew on their accounts? Do you need that accidental income that bad? Just let me play the damn game.

GoukiJones saw the problem I was having and returned his copy to Amazon, unopened. Good job losing a customer there, EA. Unfortunately, my copy is opened and I've already used the code, so I can't return it. I suppose I could use the disks for coasters or something. What a waste.
