Playtest March 26–30!

The Legend of California — the new game from Jeff Kaplan (former Blizzard developer, best known for the iconic Overwatch Yule Log video) — looks absolutely badass!
Some might wonder if Blizzard is sitting there thinking, “Damn, look at this cowboy shit Jeff is playing.” Maybe they should’ve let him run his studio his way. Well, that’s their loss now.
This is a survival game where you start with nothing more than a buck naked cowboy and work your way up to building a full-fledged cowboy ranch. Think Yellowstone meets Oregon Trail — dropped right into the wilds of a mythical California during the Gold Rush era.
It’s an open-world, action-survival FPS from Kaplan’s new studio, Kintsugiyama. You’ll explore, gather resources, craft, build your ranch, hunt, fight, and thrive — solo or with friends. There’s even optional PvP for those who want to defend their territory.

My hype is real. I’m a huge fan of survival games like V Rising (which actually gets a shoutout in the preview below). I love the deep crafting systems — matching walls and floors for the perfect base, tiering up equipment, and building a home that feels like yours.
In The Legend of California, your home base is a ranch. Build horse stables, then head over to customize, level up, and pick horses with unique pros and cons. You can even construct a mineshaft right on your property and dig deeper — leveling it up to access more floors, shafts, and resources.
I’m already addicted… and I haven’t even played it yet!
