Gouki.com got a demonstration of the Furious 4 that is a radical departure from past Brothers in Arms games.
Gearbox software has been busy. Not only have they resurrected the Duke, but they've been working on an Aliens game and this new take on the Brothers in Arms universe. Randy Varnell of Gearbox assures us that we haven't seen the last of Matt Baker, the company will make a return to the traditional Brothers in Arms WWII shooter in "the future"... whenever that is, we'll let you know. In the meantime, enjoy this trailer of the Furious 4.
Furious 4 will be a four player co-operative shooter with skill upgrades (think Borderlands, in fact I'm pretty sure I saw the logo for Mordecai's Fast Hands skill in there). Unlike Borderlands, teammates don't just pop in and out of the world, instead there are individual missions at the end of which you and your cohorts will be given a summary of the destruction you've caused. Inquiries as to whether there will be a competitive multiplayer as well were met with "no comment".
The four characters have different skills, for instance Montana (the heavy gunner of the group) had a bear trap that would ensnare enemies temporarilly, allowing your teammates to pick them off. The trap could be upgraded to include a grenade, for even more fun and destruction.
To be sure, Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 was not what we were expecting and it's not a direct sequel to the previous games, it's more of an alternate universe take on the series. That said, Furious 4 is looking like fun so far. Stay tuned to Gouki.com for updates as we hear more about this game.
Here is the full press release:
