Konami announces more DLC on the way, and it'll be sure to bring those who are into the retro 8-bit era over.
Recently, Konami has been releasing more content for Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (Chapter 8: The One Who Is Many, and Chapter 9: The Lord of Flies). Now, they announced that they will be bringing more characters and maps. The cool part about it is that the upcoming DLC's are going to be 8-bit versions. Here's the schedule:
January 20: Playable Character Simon Belmont for 160 Microsoft Points, as well as the Origins stage pack for 240 Microsoft Points
Febuary 2: Playable Character Getsu Fuma for 160 Microsoft Points, as well as The Legend of Fuma stage pack for 240 Microsoft Points.
SNK has announced when the 02: UM will be released.
The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match is finally getting a Western release. The game is hitting Xbox Live Arcade this fall. But when?
The game will be released on November 3rd and priced at 800 Microsoft Points. It's a hi-def port of the arcade game and features new characters, updated stages, new moves and more. The arcade original is a favorite with hardcore SNK fans — some even prefer it to the recently released King of Fighters XIII!
I myself personally loved the KoF Series. I remember when i went to a convention (Metrocon, I speaking about you), I would go to the game room and they actually had the game (the PS2 Jap Ver.). there, I constantly had fun with the game, using my faveorite set of characters (Terry, Athena, and Kusanagi), I would have awesome matches with other attendes. I also managed to get this game myself (by imporing, of course), and took the time to try out all teh characters. It's one of the games I would be playing whenever i have a couple of friends over, and it will always be one of my favorite KoF games around.

My[Arthvader] preview for The King of Fighters XIII. An in-depth look at the most important reasons why Arthvader is hype for KOF13.
With The King of Fighters XIII coming this November, I'm soo hyped up for this game. I've been a fan of the series since 94, and from the looks of it, I'm sure it'll be one of the best one yet. Here's the trailer:
The story takes place after the event's of KoF XI. Ash Crimson has just recently managed to claim two of the three power held by the decedents of those who sealed the Orochi 1,800 years ago (Chizuru Kagura and Iori Yagami), while leaving Kyo Kusanagai to be his final victim. As Elisabeth Blanctorche, a former comrade of Ash, prepares to stop him, fighters from around the world received a letter with an invitation to another King of Fighters tournament tournament, in which it's be hosted by a person being simply labeled as "R". This person is Rose, the sponsor of the tournament, who is currently being controlled by "Those from the Past", the organization behind the two previously held tournaments that has been trying to break the seal of the Orochi.
Let's talk modes first. The game will have the following modes: Story, Practice, Challenge, Customize, Tutorial, Replay, Gallery, and Online.
In the Story mode, you can view events from the perspective of multiple characters, and it will be influenced by the decisions you make, as well as your battle results. when it comes to battling the CPU in the story mode, you'll be given random objectives, or Target Actions, which when completed, will give you bonus points, as well as some bonuses for the next round. Also, pre-battle dialog will be shown during the single player mode.
With the Tutorial mode, newcomers will be able to learn the basics of the game. the tournament sponsor Rose will explain the basic controls of each character, as well as the importance of each gauge.
The Challenge mode will consist of three modes within itself: Survival, where you fight for as long as you can, Time Attack, Where you pretty much just play through the game for the fastest time, and Trial, which you perform various combos with each character.
The Replay mode is where you can view replays of matches you saved after battles. I don't know yet if you can watch replays with friends yet.
The Gallery is, well, it's self explanatory. in this mode, you can view various pieces of art done by the staff.
Another neat feature for this game is the fact that you can customize the character's colors to whatever you want. Sure, at first, there won't be as many colors available at first, but as you keep playing the game, more colors will be available, allowing for unlimited customizations. the best part is, you can use those customizations in online play.
The next thing I'll mention is gameplay changes. First of all, the following gameplay mechanics from the previous game were removed for this game: the Critical Counter system, the the Clash system, and the dynamic, zooming camera. In the place of these mechanics, the following systems and changes has been added:
- The EX Mode: Players will be able to use powerful version if their moves for the cost of one meter for EX Desperation Moves, and two meters for EX Super Desperation Moves.
- The Triple Cancel: this mechanic allows players to unlimitedly cancel their character's moves. the Triple Cancel is dependent on the Hyper Drive Gauge.
- The Hyper Drive Gauge: A three-tier gauge which will gradually drain as player cancel the moves. Whenever the the gauge reaches the max, the player will then go into a state called "Hyper Drive Mode" in which players will be able to cancel unlimitedly for a short amount of time.
- Neo Max Desperation Move: whenever the player is in the "Hyper Drive Mode" while having at least three power stocks, they'll be able to pull off this powerful technique. Players can also link this move into a combo, in which you'll do a "Max Cancel".
All I have to say is this, the songs in this game are soo totally badass. Instead of having generic songs for the stages, we get back songs for each team. Not only that, each team's theme, in my opinion, sounds like it belongs with them. Listen to Team Japan's theme here, and see for yourself:
As you can see from the image above, you can tell that the game improves on the graphics. The game will feature a total of at least 8 new hand-drawn stages, while returning stages from the previous game will get a visual upgrade. each characters themselves will have at least 20 different colors to choose from, all of which looks really nice, while some characters might have head swaps (Raiden & Takuma, I'm looking at you), and if the twenty colors aren't enough, you can use your own customized colors (I explained customization mode in the gameplay section of the preview.)
Final Verdict: HYPED!!!
Even though the game won't be out just yet, I'd say BUY IT!!!!!
Also, pre-order this game to get a special 4-disk set consisting of KoF music spanning the whole franchise.
Before I go, here's some videoes of high level KoF XIII players (I found these on iplaywinner's youtube page):

Does this updated version of The King of Fighters 98 keep up with its predecessors? Find out in this review.
I've been a fan of The King of Fighters Series for a long time now. 98 was one of my favorite in the series. The first time I had a chance to try this game was at Metrocon 2008, in which I was able to play it on the PS2, through an imported copy. I was hooked to the updated ver., I ended up going on a huge winning streak. when the convention was over. I did alot of searching, seeing if this port would arrive to the US. it wasn't until 1 year later when the game was released onto Xbox live. right away, I picked it up and played it for a very, very long time, mastering my characters, and beating people senselessly online, and meeting plenty of friends. several years later, I'm ready to give my review for this game.
As you can see from the main menu for this game, the game offers various game modes. ARCADE PLAY is the standard 3-on-3 team battle mode. SINGLE PLAY is the 1-on-1, best two out of three battle mode. ENDLESS is pretty much a survival mode, testing how much you can knock out until you are knocked out yourself. with every game, there is a PRACTICE mode so that you can try out new techniques. the CHALLENGE mode offers 30 different missions which tests your very skill at the game, which can vary anywhere between doing a simple command, performing complicated combos, and even beating a set of enemies (I'm looking at you, challenge #21). NEOGEO MODE actually switches over to the classic KoF 98, which was one of my favorite game in the series. Xbox LIVE is the last one I'll mention, as it is your online mode.
The standard battle format in The King of Fighters series is a 3-on-3 team battle, in which the objective is to knock out all of your opponent's characters. Befor selecting your characters, though, you'll need to select a style. In 98UM, you could choose between ADVANCED, EXTRA, or ULTIMATE. ADVANCED allows players to dash, use a roll evasion, and have a three stock meter, in which it gains and extra stock whenever you lose a character, for up to a total of 5 stocks. EXTRA allows players to quick step, dodge in place, and a meter that they can charge. As for ULTIMATE, this will allow players to mix and match between both the ADVANCED and EXTRA, allowing for a unique setup, such as having the stock meter and dash, but having the dodge instead of the roll evasion, etc...
The game's roster consists of up to 42 characters, with some of them spanning from various SNK games (Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Ikari Warriors, Psycho Soldier). Some of these characters also has an extra version that can be selected by holding a certain button before selecting the character. Personally, My main character, and personal favorite of mine, is Athena Asamiya, the female member of the Psycho Soldiers team.
in terms of the controls, there are four main buttons: Light punch, Light kick, Hard Punch, and Hard kick. when both light buttons are pressed, depending on your choice of style, will allow you to do the roll evasion, or dodge. when you have at least have one stock in your meter (ADVANCED), or a fully charged meter (EXTRA), by pressing light punch, light kick, and hard punch at the same time, you will go into what's called MAX mode for a limited time. In Max mode, your attacks are stronger, and when you perform your SDM (Super Desperation Move, aka Super move), it'll be more powerful, visual changes will appear, and after the attack, you'll be out of max mode. Using a SDM will cost one stock out of the meter, and if you're not in MAX mode, and have three stocks, you could do the MAX mode verion of the SDM at the cost of three stocks. the last thing I'm going to mention is the assist attack, in order to do an assist attack, you have to be dizzied on your side of the field. if you still have people on your team that hasn't fought yet, when you are dizzied on your side, you can press light punch, light kick, and hard punch at the same time, and one of your partners will jump from the background and attack your opponent.
As you can tell from the screenshot (sorry, I couldn't find a better one at the moment), it still retains that classic KoF artstyle. Each of the stages were greatly improved from their original appearance, with some stages being new. This is what I grew up with when I play SNK games, and I'm glad for this type of style.
Just like with the graphics, the sound quailty retains its vales for the series just as well. For those who have the PS2 ver. players can switch between the original tracks and an arranged ver. of the soundtrack for the game. In my opinion, I like both versions of the music used in the game. Here's some samples (these videoes includes both versions of the songs) :
All in all, this particular KoF game is one of my most favorite ones to play, in which I still do against some friends from time to time. nowadays, the game is pretty much dead online, so it'll be hard to find someone online unless you made an arrangement with a friend to meet up online for some battles. If you ever get this game, let me know if you want to have a couple of battles.
Final Verdict: Buy It!!!
Before I end this story, here a video of a fight i had with an old friend over a year ago:

Is this classic style RE game worth getting? Check this review and find out for yourself.
After extensive playtime with this great game, I'm ready to proceed with my first review for the guys here at Gouki.com.
The story of the game is pretty much about Claire Redfield searching for her brother, Chris Redfield. After be captured at an Umbrella Corporation facility in Paris, she was taken to Rockfort Island. Shortly after arriving, Claire was released from her prison cell by a man named Rodrigo Juan Raval, seeing as how he doesn't considered Claire as a threat because of the T-Virus outbreak in the island. While trying to escaping the island, she teams up with Steve Burnside, and at the same time, had a confrontation with the commander of the island, Alfred Ashford. During this time, Wesker was on a mission of his own in the island, searching for a sample of the T-Veronica virus that was developed my Alexander's twin sister, Alexia. Wesker's group was pretty much the ones responsible of the T-Virus outbreak in the island.
Eventually, Claire and Steve manages to escape the island, via seaplane. The only problem, though, is that Alfred has set it on auto-pilot, which it caused the plane to take both Claire and Steve to go to another Umbrella Facility in the Antarctic, with the hopes that he could free his sister from her 15-year-long cryogenic sleep after having being injected with the T-Veronica Virus, in order to counter the flaws of the virus. After another confrontation with Claire and Steve, which ends up allowing the protagonists to leave the facility via a digger, Alfred, who was heavily injured after the confrontation, is seen limping towards Alexia. Just moments before breathing his last breath, he managed to witness his sister's awakening. Alexia, just recently reawaken, summons giant tentacles and crashes the digger that Claire and Steve was using, thus recapturing them.
After being contacted by Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield arrived to Rockfort Island in search for Clair. He learns from Raval that Claire has already left the island. Raval was soon killed shortly afterwards by a giant worm. While searching around Rockfort, Chris had an encounter with none other that Wesker. Just as Wesker wants to finish Chris off, Alexia appears on the screen, laughing. Shocked at the fact that Alexia is still alive, Wesker changed his mind and decided to head back to the Antarctic. Eventually, Chris manages to reach there as well, and is finally reunited with Claire, who sets out to find Steve. When she found Steve, Claire found out that Alexia was conducting an experiment on Steve, injecting him with the T-Veronica virus. Steve then mutated into a reptilian monster and tries to kill Claire, who manages to escape to a prison cell, where she is attacked by more of Alexia's tentacles. While still in his mutated form, Steve breaks through the bars with his immense strength and rescued Claire. The tentacles, however, drove itself through Steve's chest and retreated. Steve then reverted back into his human form, and before he dies, he professes his love for Claire.
At the same time, Wesker and Chris confronts Alexia. Wesker, being overwhelmed by Alexia's strength, decided to retreat, leaving Chris to battle her alone. Chris manages to gain a victory over Alexia, albiet temporary, as she ressurects after the battle. Meanwhile, Chris activates the facilitiy's self-destruct system to release all the locks, allowing Claire to be free from her prison cell. It was at this point that Alexia confronts Chris for a second time, this time leading to her ultimate destruction. Chris then headed towards the emergency elevator, where he caught a glimpse of Wesker, whose men also managed to acquired Steve's body to use for further experiments, seeing as how he is the only subject injected with a sample of the T-Veronica virus. Chris manages to convince Wesker to release Claire, who then runs to the plane, waiting for her brother. During their confrontation, Wesker was gaining the upperhand over Chris. the battle ended prematurely when an explosion seperated the two of them. Wesker vows that he will get his revenge the next time they meet. Chris reunites with Claire and both set off in the jet just as the whole facility blows up. Chris swears to take Umbrella once and for all.
If you are one of the few people who has only played RE 4 or RE 5, then this game will be a huge departure from the other two games. First of all, in order to move the character, the player moves by pushing the d-pad or analog stick left or right to rotate the character, while pushing it up or down to move the character forwards or backwards. as for firing a weapon, you had to hold in the right trigger (R2 on the PS3), and then press X (Square on the PS3) to fire. You can also aim by pressing up or down while holding the Right Trigger/R2 . The X/Square button is used to interact with objects, go up and down stairs, and go through doors. with the A/X button, by holding it down while going forward, you can run, while pressing the button while pressing down at the same time will allow the character to make a 180-degree turn. By pressing the Y/Triangle button, you will open a map, which can be pretty convenient in the case you get lost. Pressing start will open your inventory screen, where you can equip any gun(s) that you have in your possession, use healing herbs or first aid spray to restore health, or use key items you come across to solve puzzles, open new passageways, etc... As for the perspective, you'll find that instead of behind-the-shoulder third-person-view found in RE4 and 5, you'll be moving around through fixed camera angles as you move from one area to the next. In the end, it could be a tad bit difficult to get used to the controls at first, but you'll eventually get used to it.
When it comes to the sound in the game, it could be a bit of a mixed bag. when it comes to the musical score in the game, it does serve the horror atmosphere pretty well. The voice acting may be bad, but at the same time it's funny to laugh at. You could say that the voice acting belongs in the "It's soo bad, it's good" category.
This is a comparasion between the PS2 port of Code: Veronica X and the HD port which is on the PS3 and 360 (footage uses the PS3 Ver.)
In terms of the graphics, you can cleary tell that Capcom gave this game some attention in this particular category. I'd have to say, Compared the the PS2 port, Capcom really did a good job with how the pixel shading, and the lighting effects were added along with the shadows. Another thing is the fact that the game has been upscaled as well.
All in all, I had a plesant experience playing this game. It took me around 10 hours to complete the game on my first run. the unlockable Battle Game mode was just as for me, as it was pretty much a time attack mode to see how fast you can complete it for a good rank. At this point, I'm still working on trying to get a A rank on the main game, which, in my opinion, is going to be a real pain to do, but in a way, it's worth the challenge. For $19.99 (PSN), or 1600 microsoft points, I say it's worth the money.
For those of you who are into the classic style of Resident Evil games, I would say BUY IT!!!

Everyone's favorite assassin from Assassin's Creed is going to make his appearance in Soul Calibur V
A while back, Namco-Bandai announced that Ezio Auditore, a master assassin from the Assassin's Creed series is going to be a playable guest character in Soul Calibur V. In my opinion, this is a really interesting move. Sure, I haven't finished the first Assassin's Creed game (which doesn't star Ezio, but rather Altiar), but I would really like to get the chance to use this assassin to wreak havoc on my enemies with his sword, daggers, and wrist blades. Here's his reveal trailer:

Sega is finally bringing the updated Virtua Fighter 5 game into consoles.
Sega announced that they will be bringing out Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, to XBLA and PSN next summer. this is the second revision of Virtua Fighter 5 which was released in arcades. it will feature further balancing from the original VF5, exquisite arenas, new characters, such as Taka Arashi, the sumo wrestler from VF3, and Jean Kujo, an entirely new character for this game, for a total of 19 characters, and extensive customizations for the characters.
I'm really excited for this game. I've been waiting for an updated version of Virtua Fighter 5 to come here for a long time now, and learning of this news now, it makes me want to get back on VF. I'll be interesting to see how they rebalance this game, especially since I want to see what they do with my character, Brad Burns, a character who specializes in kickboxing.

Marvel fans will like what's coming
Just Moments ago, Marvel revealed that Konami will bring out the classic 1992 arcade hit, X-Men, over to XBLA and PSN. The game will feature "drop-in" online multiplayer, supporting up to six players, as well as variable difficulty settings. Please stay tuned for a trailer for this arcade classic.
Here's the trailer:
Cult classic from saturn era making an appearance onto your xbox 360 late summer/fall.
Yeah, Sega had announced this like 2 weeks ago, but I'm here to say that they are bringing back Guardian Heroes, a great cult classic back in the Sega Saturn era, to the XBLA. here's a trailer:
For those of you who don't know what Guardian Heores is, it's a great beat'em up developed by Treasure (Gunstar Heroes, Sin and Punishment, Dynamite Heady). it involves four characters (Han, Randy (with his pet rabbit, Nando), Nicole, Ginjirou) find the sword of a valiant warrior who has died some point before the game's beginning. Just as they were about to relax for the night, Serena (the former princess who has escaped the evil Kanon's takeover and joined the four characters in an attempt to stop him), enters the room quickly, warning the heroes that Kanon's knight has learned that they have the sword, and everyone splits up, meeting up at the graveyard that is nearby.
Upon arriving at the graveyard, they are met by the leader of the Black Knights, Valgar, and a powerful robotic warrior, the five warriors then went to battle with the robot, only to fail at dealing much damage to it. Just as Han was about to use the sword that they had found prior to the beginning of the game to fight aginst the robot, a bolt of lightning hits the sword, electrocuting Han, causing him to lose his grip on the sword. The sword, apparently now showing signs of life, hovers toward a mound of dirt within the graveyard, where a zombified warrior arose from it (in fact, the sword indeeds belong to this zombified warrior, seeing as how he was the one who had it before he died.). Enraged, the warrior destroyed the robot, and then started going after Serena. Nicole, not knowing what to do, asked the warrior st stop, and surprisingly, he stoped. realizing that the warrior will follow any of their orders. the five heroes, knowing that, with this warrior's help, could they begin their attack on Kanon's new kingdom.
After this point, the game itself can go into multiple braches, leading up to new seneraios, and of course, new endings. it also has a RPG element, in which as you level up your characters, you can determine how to set up their stats. As for the battle, you can battle on three different planes on the field (simply put, lines), which can give players multiple ways of attacking the enemies.
That's all I could put up for now. If you want to know more, follow the links below.
