Harmonix the folks behind music rhythm games such as Frequency, Guitar hero 1 and 2, and the Rock Band Series is looking for combat designers. Say what?

In a pleasant surprise Harmonix (Jimmies behind the Rock Band series) posted a job ad on Gamasutra looking for a Combat Designer. Stating that they are “seeking a Combat Designer to create real-time, single-player combat experiences for a brand new IP on next-generation hardware.”

What’s interesting here is that Harmonix are well known for their rhythm based games, like Frequency, Guitar Hero 1 and 2, as well as the successful Rock Band franchise.

“This is an exciting opportunity to contribute creatively to the studio and work on a project that is unlike anything Harmonix has ever done before.”

Harmonix’s John Drake recently stated that "In addition to finishing development on Rock Band Blitz and Dance Central 3, Harmonix is actively developing multiple new IPs on next generation hardware. We're looking for the best and most experienced devs out there to join us."

What are your thoughts on this? Would you be interested in a completely new IP from these guys? How do you feel about the recent Rock Band Games?

Rock Band 3 Pro Guitars Developer Trailer!

By: Cinderkin Oct 21, 2010 | 8 Comments

Wanna see the new Rock Band 3 peripherals in action? Check out this great trailer that shows us both of the new guitars used for Pro Mode.

Now I've been a fan of Harmonix since the Frequency days. I loved Guitar Hero 1 and 2, and I was a huge fan of Rock Band 1 and 2. Music games lately have become over saturated, with a new Guitar Hero, Rock Band game every year. I'm sick of em. I had just about given up on playing these games when Harmonix introduced Pro Mode in Rock Band 3.

Pro Mode essentially allows the user to play the Guitar or the Drums as if they were the true real instruments counterparts. How do they do this? Well Harmonix has come up with new peripherals that are very close to the real thing. There are two different types of guitars for pro mode.  One that simulates a real guitar using buttons and strings, and another one that is an actually guitar that works both in game and in real life.

I for one am pretty excited about this. Mostly because I suck at playing guitar and I quit after a month or so of trying to learn. Rock Band 3 Pro Mode may be my ticket to learning how to play in a fun way with friends.

Check out the trailer to see what I mean. Rock Band 3 is out Oct 26th in the US and Oct 29th in the UK.
