Infinite Bits is Miami's first ever video game convention. Check out my videos, pictures, and review.
Day 1
We arrived in the afternoon and obtained our press passes along side the Destructoid.com Jimmys. The convention was pretty slow at this point the video game nerdom had not arrived, most were probably still in school. We cruised through the vendors area which was small, but had a very nice selection. A lot of old school games and consoles. Imports too and one guy had a bunch of material from the Tokyo Game Show so that was a little treat for me. Checked out the rest of the show which was about the size of the Nintendo booth at E3. The interactive gaming museum was cool. I saw my first ever console the Intellivision that was awesome! What I loved about this area was all the TV's matched that era of the console, I have seen such old ass TV's in a long time. My first gaming TV was black and white and you turn the clicker to change the channel.
Day 2
This was the highlight day for me. All the major tournaments were going down. The only issue I had with this was it seemed that nobody cared how they were being handled. It seemed that two different groups were doing the tournaments. There were no announcements over the loud speaker of when or where a tournament was starting or that the finals were taking place. The finals should have been on the main stage or on a big screen for everyone to see! This is a video game show and this was not a highlight?! Wtf? The music on the main stage was so loud the Jimmys playing in the Gears of War 2 tournament couldn't even communicate with each other. I was annoyed as fuck during all of this. I just wanted to enjoy some pwnn ass gaming. The Street Fighter IV tournament was on 1 TV and took almost 5 hours for them to run through 18-20 Jimmys. Infinite Bits should have recognized the tournaments more and took it serious. Five years from now at Infinite Bits 2014 they should be talking about who won the tournaments in the previous years. Not trying to remember what fly by night band was playing horrible music.
Day 3
This was a snoozer. Nobody was there and I ended up spending more time at the bar. I brought a professional Madden player in to compete in the Madden tournament. The entire way to the convention he was bitching at me, why I was dragging him there on Sunday when the Dolphins play at 1:00pm. Well I didn't put two and two together until I got there and nobody was there and the Madden tournament was cancelled. Why?! Because it was a football Sunday in a football town the team played at 1:00pm. That was bad planning.
Overall Saturday was the best day. I think the convention was pretty good for the first one in Miami and for the hosts trying to do something different. More publicity was needed, every time I talk to a gamer I ask if they were at or heard of Infinite Bits and nobody knew. You gotta hit up these schools especially the ones within walking distance of the show. CampGamestops and post fliers. The website hasn't even been updated since the show. No pictures or videos, nothing. I wish the tournaments got more exposure and the music wasn't so loud. I'm looking forward to Infinite Bits 2010. Don't be a Jimmy!
