The third DLC expansion for Borderlands is out. How does it stack up?
Here we are with another review of another Borderlands DLC, and I feel like I'm repeating myself becuase Gearbox has a habit of releasing great DLC that is marred by one or two flaws.
In the last DLC (Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot) there were some issues with the tournaments just being to long and the font colors in the bank just being damn unreadable (purple on orange?).
This time around we get great new features like new cars (but you can't use them in the old maps and they're still fragile as hell to enemy gunfire), a new level cap (although the old enemies in the main game don't level up with you turning it into a cakewalk with no good weapons to find), new guns (though I've only found better versions of my old ones as the new, cyan colored guns are very rare). There are also quite a few "glitches" in this expansion. We've found more than a few places to fall through the floor or walk through a wall or walk into an invisible wall. (See video.)
The biggest problem is the lack of fast travel stations throughout the DLC forcing you to drive everywhere. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if the levels you drove through were all open areas, but they tend to be straight freeway driving. That plus the fragility of your ride means a lot of driving straight and not stopping to get where you're going. It's like a family vacation simulator. There are certain missions at the road's end that need to be turned in back at the starting town, T-Bone Junction. It's faster to save, exit, and reload to get back there than it is driving, and the driving offers very little in the way of "fun".
Having said all that, the actual game play once you get out of your car is still there, and there are some great new enemies to fight and they are definitely a challenge your first time through. I especially enjoyed fighting packs of Devastators (baddies in giant mech suits).
I'd normally give something with this many problems but so much fun a "rent" rating, but since this is DLC, you can't really do that, so I'll say this: If you have Borderlands already, this is a worthwhile expansion. Buy it. If you don't have Borderlands or rented it but didn't like it, this isn't going to make you go out and get it.
So, overall, Buy it (if you have the main game already).
A Game Of The Year Edition 10 Years Later. SOLD!
I've been wanting a revisit to this classic game for a few years now. It looks like I'll have my excuse on April 3rd, 2019! Invite me!

Some hacker jimmies ripped open the latest PC patch for Borderlands and found new info on the next DLC.
So there's a bunch of spoilers, and I highly reccomend you don't read the whole thread at gearbox forums, but it's there if you want it.
It seems we'll finally get to see the Interplanetary Ninja Assasin Claptrap in action, as he's tired of seing his fellow robots enslaved and tries to take over pandora.
No word on the release date yet, but if code is already leaking into the patches, it sounds like it's getting close. I need me some more Borderlands!
Coming in September for 800 MS points or $9.99 on PC/PSN.
From Gearbox's website:
We have announced with 2K that Claptrap's New Robot Revolution will be the next installment of DLC for Borderlands.
The DLC will include new missions, new enemies, more backpack slots, more skill points and more. The DLC will be available this September on Xbox Live for 800 points, and Playstation Network and PC for $9.99.
I can't believe they're targeting September... Do they not know Halo is coming? Release this in August and I'll play the hell out of it, I'm gonna be playing the Reach come the 14th though.
Claptrap wants you to buy Borderlands Game of the Year Edition!

What's the best DLC of 2010? See our nominees here and voice your opinion in the comments.
Borderlands - The Secret Armory of General Knoxx
Nothing mad me laugh harder than this add on this year. Quality humor, plus raising the level cap by 11 and giving us new weapons and shields to play with? Sign me up.
Red Dead Redemption - The Undead Nightmare
John Marston is back (from the dead?) that alone should be enough for this. New weapons and, of course, Zombears make this an exciting new addition. Let's not forget that Rockstar gave us some free DLC for this earlier too.
Halo Reach - Noble Map Pack
Okay, multiplayer map packs aren't super exciting, especially when there's only 3 of them for 10 bucks, but these are really good maps and that counts for something.
Winners will be announced December 29th. Did we leave anything out? What's your favorite? Leave a comment below!

You're going to hate me for this one....
I had purchased this game on the rave reviews detailing its excellence and gave it a go. All seemed well enough on first impressions and i was intrigued by the concept of a hybrid between RPG elements mixed with a first person shooter. To anyone, even myself (at first), that concept alone seemed like a winner in my book. 2K games hoped that the concept would make this title look like a duck in water...but the fact of the matter was that this game was more compareable to a turd in the pool: I just cant float with it. As much as i really wanted to like this game, i felt that the RPG elements killed any and all replay value for me.
First off, you have 4 characters to choose from and aside from their ONE SINGLE TALENT, you are just a floating gun for all intents and purposes. Granted you have a world of warcraft-like talent tree with different benefits, you still only have one skill. Everyone can use the same weapons, some slightly better than others through talents, but nothing more. I mean, come on! At least have weapon restrictions to make the characters more unique, or better yet, GIVE THEM MORE THAN ONE FUCKING SKILL!!!
The physics were another pet peeve to me. Seriously. I'm not shitting you. At lvl 30, crimson lance soldier should NOT TAKE 15-20 FUCKING HEADSHOTS TO KILL. It's not fun at all. It's frustrating. It's a joke. I even forget this is supposed to be an FPS. I can understand if it's a 50 foot mutant who can crush you under his foot, but not when it's just a random ass-clown with a potato gun soaking up 50 rounds in his chest before he only slows down and doesnt fucking die. Another fine example if a great RPG element. Classic. I dont remember that element in gears of war, or halo, or moder warfare, or....ah fuck it.
Listen. I'm not saying the game sucks in general, in fact I think it's a great game. There's alot of cool shit to do here and alot of awesome weapons and items to find, but the bottom line? If you want to play a FPS, stick to halo or black ops. If you want to play an RPG, Play world of warcraft...final fantasy 14 sucks donkey balls. Otherwise, expect to buy a few extra control paddles XD
Oh, and my ratings for this game: GAME RATING: 8/10=Great
FRUSTRATION: 5/5 BROKEN PADDLES=Unplayable

Does your special someone play video games? Would you ever think to ask a company to help you propose in that game?
Ben and his lady Tisha (Tora) are Borderlands fans. Ben decided he wanted to propose to her in a very special way. He asked Gearbox to help him with a proposal video and they did a hilarious job.
