A recap of my 2 days at the Las Vegas 2012 AniMegaCon. The Universe's Largest Anime Convention. Featuring: Vampy aka Linda Le, a Maid Cafe, an exclusive cosplay picture slideshow, exclusive video and a Street Fighter Tournament.
FnJimmy and Myself attended day 1. Special thanks to Jimmy for calling in sick that day to go with me. I know everybody at his work follows him on Twitter, but he was there with me, Tweeting anyway. PWN. It was all good with FnJimmy until I showed him Dragon Ball Hoshi. He lost his shit.
Here's the gist of it.
We watched the Lolita Fashion show.
Let me know if this is getting weird. While waiting for this to start, Japanese pop music played over the sound system. There was a buff chick sitting in front of us. Full on Jimmy style, he loves broad shoulders. She looked very nice though, I was checking her out. At 1 point she turns to us and asked if we knew the name of the song that was playing. Sorry lady, FnJimmy and I never heard dis shit. Some Jimmy 2 rows in front us turns around a few seconds later and shows her the title on his iPhone. FnJimmy has an iPhone, he could of pulled that info and he would have been the 1 to score the back stage pass.
FnJimmy had been complaining about food ever since we arrived. I was complaining about him stinking. The Hilton, now known has the Las Vegas Hotel, didn't have the greatest looking dining establishments. I wasn't hungry, I woke early, exercised, took a shower and ate breakfast before I left. FnJimmy did none of those things. So we went into the Paradise Cafe, it seemed I had no choice. I ordered the French Dip, I figured that was the safest thing for me to try and eat. What came to me was a soggy bun and the most dried out, alleged roast beef I ben hads ever seen. I took about 2 bites and was done. I ate the fries, they weren't great either, but at least edible. I'd stay away from the restaurant if I were you.
What about the Animegacon Jimmy? Well there were 2 anime viewing rooms, 1 put on by Cruchyroll and the other was FUNimation. We chilled in there for a few, took some shots of that Jack Dizzle! The exhibitor hall was no San Diego Comic-con, but you could walk through a couple of times. Of course there was an Artist Alley and you can always find some great artwork in there. Plus tons of panels, tons.
Here's some clips from the opening ceremonies, Featuring Ani from the Maid Cafe, Vampy, and Kirby?
The first panel we sat in was for Linda Le aka VampyBitMe. It was billed as a cosplay Q&A. In line was a bunch of dudes, I Twat this picture.
FnJimmy wasn't even watching Vampy. After I told him about the Hoshi he was pulling up episodes on his iPhone and watching DragonBall while Vampy was standing right in front of us. Fuckin' Jimmy!
FnJimmy and I got snuck into the maid cafe to look inside. I was too cheap to pay for it. When we peaked in all I saw was 2 dudes with their shirts off. Didn't look like it was for me at that time. The maids were cute though.
We couldn't make it to the AniMegaCon on Saturday because we attended an IGL tournament. My plan WAS to get back to the AniMegaCon by 9-10 for the cosplay burlesque, that sounded like a hot ticket, but I didn't make it because of the IGL debacle. That's a whole 'nother story though.
I did make it back there on Sunday with Choke. I convinced Choke to come and enter the Street Fighter tournament with me. FnJimmy backed out at the last minute. I'm sure he was afraid to get railed in public. I had it all fucked up from the beginning tho, we both brought fight sticks for Xbox and the tournament was on PS3. We both got there at 11, but the tournament didn't start until 1. :| My bad.
While we waited we had 3 beers and watched Vampy on stage again. This time she was talking about photographers. I learned something new. When you take pictures of Cosplayers, get the shoes Jimmy! Don't cut off the shoes. The girls don't like that. Heard.
1 o'clock. Time for the Street Fighter tournament. 8 entrants! C'mon!
PS3? Aw fuck! We're screwed we both thought. No way we could win with those Jimmys ass arcade fighter sticks. Luckily there were a few friendly Jimmys there, that allowed us to play with their sticks. Sounds exciting doesn't it? Choke and I tore through the crowd. I put Choke into losers. John, a Bison player, put me into losers where I had to face Choke in losers finals. Choke defeated me.
Since John had the only PS3 fight stick, Choke had to use that arcade fighter. Just like I did when Choke eliminated me and just like Choke did when I put him into losers. So yeah, there's a streak going on here. Shout out to John, thanks for sharing your equipment. Damn anyway I write that it sounds gay. GG's.
The tournament was over and we had a little while before we had to be home for SummerSlam. Actually, I remember this clearly, because it was a cluster fuck. It was exactly 3pm and on the schedule, the Maid Cafe graduation should have been starting in the main room. We went in there and the 1:30 panel was still going. So we went back out and took some more pictures of cosplayers. I thought, okay, they're a few minutes behind. No big deal. About 15 minutes later we went back inside and it looked like the maids were getting ready. We sat there for another 20 minutes and nothing happened. It didn't look like anyone was in a hurry or concerned that they were 40 minutes behind. We finally got up and left when we saw the maids sit back down in the crowd as if they were waiting for something too. After such a great weekend, that was the only let down.
Overall this is great for Las Vegas. We had a lot of fun. It reminded me a lot of the anime cons I went to in Florida. I can't wait to be a part of AniMegaCon again next year. I wish a lot of success for AniMegaCon. Kick ass!
