The first DLC released for Borderlands 2 is a whole new class to play with, is the Mechromancer worth your time?
If you pre-ordered Borderlands 2 (from select retailers) you got the Premiere club for free, this gave you a few start-of-game weapons, but more importantly gives you free access to the first DLC, a new class called the Mechromancer. If you didn't pre-order, this DLC costs $9.99 (800 MSP).
Gaige, the Mechromancer has some interesting skills to bring to the table. She can level up her guns damage by reloading only when empty (and killing) at the cost of decreased accuracy. She can deal increased electrical damage, which can chain into burn damage. Most of all, she can summon her pet robot "DeathTrap" who floats around the battlefield melee, zapping, and burning the bad guys. Leveled up, DT can stay out longer the more he kills... this can lead to hilarious results when used in an area with infinitely spawning, weak enemies.
Adding another class as DLC gives you a whole 'nother way to play the game, but the missions are of course still the same, and after running through them 4 (or more) times already, you won't find too much new or exciting. Once the robot is leveled up enough (especially as mine and GoukiJones' were while playing together) you can just release it into a room and stand back and watch it wreck shop. (Or go make a sandwich, as GoukiJones says). We were consistently able to take on missions 2-4 levels ahead of us with this setup (it's like having two extra soldiers on the field). I had a good time using her and playing through the game twice more (normal and True Vault Hunter Mode). My only real complaint is that you can't put DeathTrap away when you don't need him like you can with Axton's turret. Many times after a fight was over and DT only had 1/2 or less of his time left it was either mad dash to the next group of enemies to try to keep him going or quick stop and wait for him to recharge.
Overall, this new class is a worthy addition to the Borderlands 2 game, and if you didn't get it for free, I'd still encourage you to check her out. She's a lot of fun!
