SD Gundam Generation World PSP - CELESTIAL BEEEEIIIIINNNGGG!!!!

By: Brad_Ry Mar 13, 2012 | 4 Comments

Playing a Japanese Game After many many years and its actually fun.

Ok so managed to pick this game up.  PSP Version.  OMG I love this game.  So many gundams and MS to use. To start this game starts out in a random battle that takes place in 00 Gundam Season 2.  At random Unicorn from Gundam Unicorn shows up to fight in the battle as well.  After a series of crazy events that I can't explain cause I can't read japanese.  I guess Time is distorted or something like that.  Then starts the main game.

The graphics are great especially for the PSP. The Wii version does will but seems to be mediocre compared to PSP.  The music is great and very authentic coming from almost if not every series of gundam that exist.  The amount of MS along with original units is vast enough to rival that of the amount of pokemon.  Even loads of pilots that everyone loves. While it is turn based and a strategy RPG.  The game is still fun to no end.

You start by picking a Master Unit.  Which is generation a protagonist or antagonist from various series of gundam.  So yeah its a pick your favorite.  So many people I don't know.  I only came to know Setsuna through friends that watched 00 Gundam.  But there's a lot of ppl I don't know.  I chose my Master Unit as Gatto in Gundam Physalis (Basic).  This would come back to bite me later.  Ok aside from that master unit you can create your own pilot and have a few original pilots to use on a team. Well let me tell you right now.....everyone generally sucks till later on.  You get money to buy MS and Pilots.  Personally I went for pilots first.  Cause my Warship was missing a first captian.  So I bought Lacus Clyne (Yep the somewhat useless chick from SeeD not SeeD Destiny).

Ok on with the gameplay....after sorting through menus.  I quickly figured out which one was missions.  Our first mission.  Apparently its the original Gundam season.  I think its the episode where Amuro Ray meets Char for the first time or something close to that.  Hard to tell I don't remember that series that well. Anyway each mission is presented with a various mission, a break trigger, and a challenge.  The mission is generally basic. The Break trigger is what you have to do to extend the mission. The challenge is well a challenge and unlocks a secret opponent to fight. Alright so I get to help Amuro....he doesn't need my help I need his help. Yes we suck that bad.  My Warship is an embarrassment compared to White Base. And our MS (Mobile Suits) are subpar.  Ok once I had Amuro beat Char....we had a generation break.  Mission extension.

Char dissapears and Quattro and Kamille show up.  Talk about a timeline screw up. Now the mission is have Kamille defeat Jerid.  Well of course Jerid sucks so he went down easy.  After that was disposed of.  A bunch of Units from Gundam 00 show up.  Ok now this timeline is really messed.  They were rather tough to deal with.  relying on help from the guest characters (Kamille, Amuro, etc.) Is what pulled me through it.  Let me tell you the rules of the game though.  First off if your MS dies....its gone for good.  You have buy another one.  The pilot is safe though.  I'll have to take a guess and say if the master unit of the ship dies.  You lose automatically or if you're warship is destoryed? I don't know rather not find out.  Unlike everyone favorite SRT/SRW games there's no spirit commands you to activate.  There are abilities however.  The hit rate of attacks is rather realistic to some degree IMO.  While I would think the game is easy.  It would be far easier if I could read japanese.  Even with the Wiki site I still have a rough time sorting through a lot of stuff.  There's a lot MS I don't know of.  Most are original to the game others I just never seen before.  Still fun.  Espeically when you reach that level of PWNAGE that just kills everyone.  Right now...well from last night.

Picking Gatto in Physalis was a bad choice.  For one its main attack...that made me like it in the first place eats up all the Energy in 1 attack.  While I can recharge by going back to the warship or waiting a few turns.  Its accuracy is dismal.  COME ON ITS A GIANT BALL OF DOOM! HOW CAN YOU MISS?!  As well as some pilots are not meant to be pilots.  Building up MS is well....rough as they take a bit of effort to work on. Creating my own pilot is fun though.  I get to pick generally what type he is in ability, Melee, range, Newtype, blah blah blah. Even get to pick my own Theme song.  Well even though the game is slightly more complicated than that of say Megaman in japanese (which is Rockman) or most FF international games. Still fun and not too difficult to figure things out.  I hope this game comes out in English although I doubt it since its PSP and the Vita was just released.  Usually when I buy JP games though I end up seeing an english version released which then you hear me go "************************************!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Cause usually it'll be the day I just got it.  Anyway I'd definitely give this game a Thumbs Up.

SFxT Giveaway Hwoarang and Abel vs the World

By: Brad_Ry Feb 25, 2012 | 7 Comments

I want the free game. Here's 2 great characters. And why they are awesome.

Well first off when I see the game I would just play this game strictly for fun. As the learning curve while it doesn't look steep finding the team synergy would be a pain in the butt. Judging from what I've seen and that isn't much.  Seems everyone is afraid to use Tekken characters. Well to take the best of both worlds from what I know. Why not Abel and Hwoarang?

Starting with Hwoarang . While's he's no Baek Doo San. At least Baek taught this guy how to fight so the guy has something going for him. From what I remember about the Tae Kwon Do student he does have some nice and easy launchers back there in Tekken. Along with some easy combos. And he does have my favorite move "Hunting Hawk" I believe its called. Where he kicks you in the air twice and the 3rd kick knocks you down. While looking cool with that he obviously has some easy synergy so why not go to the other character.

Abel...also known as the untapped potential in my book when SF4 was released (next to Twins 2.0 AKA Rufus). Dude has some impressive throws and easy chains (or rekkas...rekkas being move 1, move 2, move 3, etc. in a simple chain). This guy is just scary to face especially online with an easy anti-air and easy command throws. I loved using this guy back in SF4.  Even if throws are now lowered in priority he's still a good character.  Not to mention his easy chain specials and a dodge roll as I would call it. No doubt this guy can be a good partner for Hwoarang and vice versa.

What Old Game To Play Now, I need suggestions ...

By: Brad_Ry Feb 9, 2012 | 9 Comments

Trying to figure out what to play next. Quite a dilemma I has

Haven't been on here in awhile....UMvC3 and all that.  With Pokemon Soul Silver out the way....I got to figure out what to play or finish next......sad that owning 250+ different games (yeah....a lot to count. That's not counting downloadable titles) I can't figure out what to play/finish next.  I have a few ideas but no willpower or I have an excuse not to play it.

Ideas:

Tales of Legendia

Shining Force Neo

FF7: Dirge of Cerberus

Super Mario Wii

Dot.Hack Series

Sonic Rivals 1 + 2

That's about all I can think of for now....I look at the shelf and can easily come up with 10+ ideas each time.  I hate this conundrum.  Really quite a dilemma.  The reason I haven't been on here is cause I've been on my own blog to blog about whatever game I'm playing at the time. Though no one reads it and I'm still working out layout issues.

Some Things I Miss/Liked About Older Fighters

By: Brad_Ry Dec 1, 2011 | 4 Comments

Just a short list of Fighting Game Systems (Bells and Whistles) that worked.

Guilty Gear X2. Reload, & Accent Core (Guard System)

Probably one of my favorite guard systems ever invented.  For one if you just blocked all day you opened yourself to major damage and even turning normal hits into counter hits.  Also if a combo went on forever the damage scaling kicked in on the gauge reducing the damage to an absolute minimum.  You also have bursting which if done at a perfect time filled your Overdrive guage to max.  You had dead Angle Moves as well that may have done little damage but its a get out of face card.

CvS2 Grove System

This game offered choices on your style.  So you didn't have to just settle for one method of play.  You can pick the Groove that best suits your style.  From Parrying to Charging your guage to a pissed off rage mode.  So many choices than just one.

King of Fighters 11 (Judgement System)

A game where I've seen the game count not who has the greater life but who's performed the best in the fight. So if you ran out of time having more life doesn't neccessarily mean you win.  Actions like blocking, countering, combo length, etc are what this system is looking for.  There's even some infinite combos where the judgement system will count against you.

Dead or Alive Series (Counter System)

In some cases I don't like this system but its a rather fair system to play with.  Landing counter hits really showed as in stagger hits leading to longer combos and more critical hits.  But that's not where I'm focusing.  With the proper timing and parry you could counter any incoming move being thrown at you.  If you miss timed it you were punished for it.

Psychic Force 2012 (Life = Power System)

One of my favorite fighters of all time.  Generally as a comeback method the more damage you take the more Psy power you have to use at your disposal.  Making comebacks very possible.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom (Barouque system)

A personal favorite method of mine.  A custom combo system at the sacrifice of some of your life.  A good trade off instead of just instantly pulling infinites with ease.

Bloody Roar Primal Fury/Extreme (Beast System)

Build your meter to go into beast mode and have more moves opened up to you. Build it to max and you got a limited time of super beast mode.  This wasn't bad at all with the guard system to dodge almost any moves (Although you did it by mashing guard).  But getting hit hard enough and emptying the Beast Meter turned the character back to normal. As well as being able to transform mid-combo.  Even more so as an added desperation move you can just go to super beast mode (forgot what its called and I don't have the book) at the cost of some of your life.

Those were some of the bells and whistles I liked about most fighting games.

Naming Characters Is where all your game time goes.

By: Brad_Ry Nov 11, 2011 | 4 Comments

The most time consuming thing for an RPG player.

Ok if you thought grinding on an RPG was the most time consuming thing around.  Think again.  What really consumes a player's time is naming things.  Naming things you say?  What is this I don't even?!

In RPGs the most you get the option to rename is the main character.  Also the most simple.  Maybe.  But in many other RPGs heck generally any game.  They ask you to name the epic cool main character.  That's if the character is awesome....most of the time you find out the main character sucks compared to the epic lone wolf guy standing in the corner over there. Anyway.

Its hard to decide on a name at times.  Most of the time you go with your name.  Cause you're cool and awesome and get to carry an oversized weapon that makes no sense.  (most likely its a sword).  But then when you name the character it sounds totally out of place compared to the area you start out in.

Ex: I'm the somewhat nameless protaganist who lives in Japan...My name will be Brad!!! Last name Ry!!! Yeah I'm awesome......Next character met.....Hi my name is Mitsuro Kirijo!!! I'm clearly japanese.  (If you haven't figured out I just referenced Persona 3 then I kinda feel sorry for you.)

Oh great....now I clearly sound like I came from America even though I was born in Japan in this game....well no worries. Nobody will pick up on this at all!!!! yeslaugh

Ok that situation is all too common. But what about this situation....You name yourself after the main character but in the long run you end up wishing you named yourself after SUPER AWESOME ASS-KICKING GUY #7 who just joined your party.  This must be because of one reason....the chararcter you named yourself after...yes is a crybaby, emo-loser, who doesn't deserve your great and all powerful name!

Ex: Well Tidus since you're clearly cool in every way and an awesome sports jock...You're name is now! Brad! *4 hours later Auron joins* OMG Auron you're clearly awesome!!! And these summons are far more awesome than this loser of a main character Tidus!!! I shoulda named myself after these characters!!! Now I can't change the names!(yep a FFX reference I don't care for the hate we all wanted to name ourselves after Auron at one time or another....males anyway.)

Well those 2 situations appear all too often for RPG players.  What about this one.  There's way too many characters and other things you can name.  If you've played a Disgaea game this situation pops up often.  Heck even a fighting game where you get the option to create a character....(Not to mention Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep giving you the option to name your finishing commands etc.)

Ok I'm a pokemon trainer...My name is already set.  Now that was easy even though I look like a generic character that over a million ppl also chose.  OH well what can ya do. Here's the problem....You caught all 6000 pokemon! (obvious exaggeration) Would you like to rename them?!  surpriseindecision Well.....#%[email protected]!!!!!  Let me decide on epic names for my party.  Go uh........give me about an hour.  *1 hour later* Ok your name is uh....awww dangit!!!!

Generally unless you don't care for names you just stick with default.....although if your playing to become ultra master god of the world at a game that everyone will quickly forget when the sequel is released.  You probably have clones of the same character in this regard and forgot to note who's who. Well I'll just name you training fodder 1,2,3,....

Its worse when it comes to naming attacks.  Although naming attacks is rather rare occasion.  But you want a cool name that you can scream out in the safety of your room without embarrassing yourself.  You don't really wanna borrow the name of some random attack you heard off an anime.  But you tend to do so anyway.

This new attack is called "SERPENTS INFERNAL RAPTURE!!!" (Lol Blazblue)

Oh crap I totally stole that name...no one will notice....."I did" -shot-

Ok so that didn't work. Lets combine the names no one will know!

EAT THIS!!! "Shinku Emerald Tyrant Rave!!!"  (SF + Blazblue + Guilty Gear LOL)

Hah you're so original!!! You combined attack names!!!

Well that didn't work either....only one choice left......GOOGLE!!! Lets see what comes up after 3 hours of searching!!! Ok I got a really long list.....and I got some really "cool" (yeah right) names!!!!

Ok my new attack is called "Terra Hawk Mane!!!!" (cricket sounds)  Shut up its awesome!!!angry

Sigh what do you think about renaming and making up names? Hard as hell or not?
