Warning drunken rant ahead. I was not sober while taking notes last night during the VGA's. I'm barely sober now. I'm just going to copy over my notes. Read on with care. Don't be a Jimmy!
Batman Arkham City - Dissapointing pre-rendered trailer.
Elder Scrolls Skyrim 11/11/11 - Pre-rendered bullshit. *Not a Tuesday.
Kratos IS official in Mortal Kombat. Pre-rendered trailer didn't show shit.
Thor game announced = Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Cliffy B backed out of his appearance at the last second. If he was going to make a Kinect announcement for Gears of War 3, I think he realized this may have not been the place. *There was no Kinect or Move talk at all during the VGA's.
Gran Turismo 5 - My Chemical Romance performance was the epitome of that game. Reh-tard!
Mass Effect 3 - Pre-rendered bullshit again. We are however, going to Earth. Holiday 2011.
Call of Duty Black Ops = Best Shooter - translates to bullshit. There must be a thousand videos on youtube of people complaining about how terrible it is.
Resistance 3 = Irrelevant. 9/06/2011
Prototype 2 - 2012 = Negative. The people don't care about 2012 bullshit right now. Prototype was a game that dropped in retail just as fast as Kane and Lynch 2. I couldn't even give my copy away.
Insane from Guillermo del Toro. Release date 2013?! WTF seriously? We're gonna hold you to it Guillermo del Toro, when this game never comes out. To Schmidt.
SSX Deadly Decent. Cinderkin and BatRastered were creaming their pants. I don't know why.
John Marston IS NOT the character of the year. They give it to the nuab from COD. To make things worse Spike sucks off Neil Patrick Harris center stage and give him best voice actor for Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions. A game nobody played and nobody will EVER remember for having Neil Patrick Harris in it.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Release date 11/01/2011. Sold!
Red Dead Redemption wins Game of the Year.
That's it for the notes. Now for some Blithering Blathering.
The VGA's continue to be bullshit every year. I do not endorse this at all. The awards are completely spread out and none of them make sense to me. Everybody gets an award at the VGA's.
It was obvious to me that Red Dead Redemption was the best bet to win GOTY. And it did.
What I don't get it is, if RDR is the best game of the year, why does it not win any other awards. Best studio? Bioware. Best character? The Jimmy from COD: Black Ops. Best voice actor? Neal Patrick Nubfarm. Best Shooter? COD Black Ops.
Doesn't make sense to me. RDR should have got more awards. Oh wait, it's Spike TV and Activision I'm sure. Making a mockery of the industry.
The SpikeTV Video Game Awards are not legit. I hope you agree with me. Showing us trailers and TEXTUAL ads for games that aren't coming out until 2013? Come on. Gamers don't care about that. Do they think we are idiots? The Batman is a perfect example, it seemed to have gone backwards from what we saw last year. Really at this point we can't see gameplay? Because that trailer last year was bullshit to begin with. Now somebody wasted a bunch of time making a pre-rendered trailer of Batman fighting a bunch of Sam Fishers. Guess what, none of us who want to play the Arkahm City care about your pre-rendered bullshit.
Just one last take and this is totally my personal opinion. Red Dead Redemption is the best game this year. RDR did to the open world sandbox genre, what GTA III did to the PS2 generation. It totally reset the bar. John Marston is one of the best characters in video game history. His story, his style, and especially his attitude. No other character made me laugh as much as he did. Rockstar San Diego created something amazing and it wasn't a sequel with an engine and a storyline already built into it.
VGA's are bullshit, but for all the reasons I've list above. I can't wait for the 2011 VGA's. Thanks for reading.
