Star Wars Battlefront 2 Beta Highlights and Thoughts

By: goukijones Oct 11 (11 days ago) | 0 Comments

This is a review of my time with the beta.

This is one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever seen.  The sound effects are spot on and the entire presentation gives you a good feel of Star Wars.  I’m trying to say a few nice things before I absolutely rip into this game.  The shooting is fun, I didn’t play Battlefield 1, I wish had.  But in Battlefront 2 it definitely reminds me of old Battlefield games.  If you’re not aware of the zone and game type and where your enemies are, you’re going to die without even knowing wtf happened to you.

Pay-to-win
Let’s get this part of the issue out of the way.  There are loot crates in this game.  The loot crates have upgrades to all of your classes and cosmetics for all of your characters.  It is stupid.  If somebody dropped a few hundred dollars on the first day, there’s a huge potential of maxing out all characters and having overpowered Heroes.  As if the Heroes weren’t strong enough from the start.  You get one free crate a day.  Thanks!  You can earn credits to open crates while playing the game, but it seems like the max points you can earn are 150.  You can get 150 credits, by making finishing the objective, or not allow the enemy to take the final objective.  It seems more based on time then experience, because if you have 2 kills and I have 20, we both get 150 points.  So I just don’t understand, there is no incentive to perform, rather you just don’t quit.

What’s with these gd pigeons…

Well it’s been a few weeks now since they removed the Halo 5 beta & I miss it EVERYDAY.

It was super fun to play.  I’m just talking about the regular shooting too.  There were no flag or bomb game types during the beta.  1 of the game types featured was like a GoW type where you only had 1 life per round.  Believe it or not, for a Halo game type like that, it worked out pretty well.

Here is the top 5(7) clips I managed to save from my time playing the beta.

The movement in Halo 5 was easily my favorite part.  You can sprint at will, but it had a couple of side effect, like if your shield was down, it would not come back while running.  The Dash in any direction is great, although it makes it impossible to hit people sometime.  You could hover/float in the air while aiming.  There was a similar feature in Destiny.

The guns have got to be the second best part of Halo 5 so far.  EVERY GUN is fun to shoot.  Instead of thinking - Oh man, I gotta get rid of this gun & find something I can actually get a kill with… The thought process was more like - Okay, I got this gun, how CAN I get a kill with it.  New guns like the Hydra is super fun to shoot.

Other praises are the sound effects.  It sounded like you were moving fast or slamming down to the ground really hard.  The guns all had great effects & echoes throughout the map.

I didn’t care too much for the maps though.  They did some weird thing where the had almost 2 of the same map, just 1 was bigger than the other.  It was weird & confusing at sometimes.  Especially on the dark maps.  I could do without that in the future.

I’m definitely wanted to play more Halo 5, but it’s so far away right now that I’m just gonna put it out of my head.  Maybe I’ll come back & watch these videos once in a while.  Thanks watching & reading my nonsense.  Don’t be a Jimmy!

From what I can tell, Destiny is ....

Some sort of Multiplayer, Diablo-style mmo, Borderlandsesque game. Now of course I have no idea what I'm talking about. Most of this is speculation based on what I've seen from E3. PvE looks super boring & looks a lot like Borderlands, minus the cell shade. 30FPS 1080p. I'm having flashback of just shooting at the same brick wall in Borderlands 2 over & over. Because fighting stuff in Borderlands was just like shooting a wall for 2 hours, bullet sponges. Then you'd open a chest & it'd be 2 greens & a white. People who played Borderlands know what I'm talking about. Garbage!

I've been watching the Ninja steam all morning. I've seen him sell a ton of guns. I don't know how much loot is in the game during this Alpha, but aren't we out there for treasure? I haven't seen a ton of people running around in the world either. Granted, it's a an Alpha, but nobody is around. You can see some tags from E3, but those Jimmys are just standing still. The PvP I'm watching now is 6v6 & this looks like a lot of fun. The PvP is what I want to try.

Here's a few vids of character creation & missions.
