Dragon Age II is nothing like the original

By: goukijones Jan 15, 2011 | 6 Comments

Dragon age II has a unique lead character, new combat and magic systems and a completely different story telling style from the original. What does this mean? Dragon Age II is more like an original game.

Dragon age II has a unique lead character, new combat and magic systems and a completely different story telling style from the original. What does this mean? Dragon Age II is more like an original game.

I played it! At that point though I had no idea what was going on with the story really. Mike Laidlaw was trying to explain it to me, but I was probably a little drunk. It was late in the afternoon that day at the San Diego comic-con and we just stumbled out of this half strip club, half steak house somewhere smack dab in the middle of the Gaslamp district. While walking back to the convention center FnJimmy gets smacked in the side of the dome with what looked like a giant condom package at first. I picked it up and read Dragon Age II, some chicks where just chucking these things into the crowd. Then I realized some reh-tard dressed as Goku run by with a giant inflatable sword. That's what the chick hit FnJimmy in the side of the face with. So we headed up stairs to check out Dragon Age II, what happens next is amazing. Dragon Age II Hands-on SDCC 2011.

But that's not why we are here today. Dragon Age II is coming out in a few weeks. By the way it's Dragon Age II, roman numerals Jimmy. EA even spells it Dragon Age 2 sometimes, Sorry, maybe that's my problem. I pre-ordered my Bioware Signature Edition. If you didn't, don't worry, you're still gonna get some cool DLC when the game is released. But for those of you who did pre-order the Bioware Signature Edition here's a look at some of the DLC you will be getting.

Dragon Age 2 : Exiled Prince

Also in another video released this week. Gouki.com's old drinking buddy Mike Liadlaw returns to explain the unique story telling in Dragon Age II. This time everybody is sober. When you watch this video and listen to what they are saying, you know, if you played the first game that this going to be a completely different experience. Personally I think a lot about Mass Effect, when Mike explains it. I'll control the one main guy and he will develop a personality depending on my actions in the game, just like Mass Effect. Which is fine, but in the original Dragon Age you got to choose from an elf, a human, or a dwarf. Then on top of that you got to choose if you were high class or low class. That is completely out in Dragon Age II and I hope it works. So check out the latest developer diary from Mike Laidlaw and his team.

Dragon Age 2 is a Glitch Fest [Exclusive Video]

By: goukijones Mar 29, 2011 | 7 Comments

Dragon Age 2 is a Glitch Fest indeed, but I still love it. These videos are from a second play-through. Female Hawke Blood Mage FTW. The later I got in the game, the more it started to freak out.

Dragon Age 2 Hawke Mage Slow Down, Health Bar Glitch & Hold Position Trick

Pretty serious title I know. I wanted to get to the point.

The Hawke mage slow down is exactly that. When this first started to happen in the game, I thought I had done something wrong. Wrong equipment, wrong weapon, maybe somebody cast slow on me. Turns out this is a common thing among Hawke Mages in Dragon Age II.

The Health Bar Glitch seems to happen when your character is raised or is drinking a potion at the time of death. You can see in the video, Aveline just taking a pounding and her health constantly refreshing. At the very end of the video you can see it happen with Hawke as well. (Also with Varric in this Dragon Age II Montage.)

The Hold Position Trick is constantly keeping your party as far back as possible so if invisible walls are tripped, they can stay protected behind them. Like fighting the two Pride Demons in the video. Of course one of your party members has to be in there with the monsters. In another clip you see something strange with Anders. He's on one side of a doorway you can't get through. On the other side are 30 Jimmys and Aveline crackin' them over the head with a club. Brilliant stuff.

2010 Hardcore Gamer Holiday buyer's guide

I am a hardcore gamer. So I have put together a list of things that I would gladly accept or give away as a holiday gifts. Starting with some of my favorite games from this year. Also some games I haven't played, but my friends can't seem to stop talking about. You're going to find some of the best gift ideas below for somebody you know is a serious gamer. Just do a little research first and make sure they haven't played the games already.

Every gamer needs accessories, I could probably use a new controller. Mine makes funny noises in two different places. My wireless headsets are losing their charge times because I use them so much. If you don't have HDMI cables I got you covered. Also if you have a PS3, you know the controller charge cable is real short and you can get a universal USB extension cable that will work with your PS3 and Xbox 360. Perfect for keyboard extensions and stuuuuuf.

For the serious gamer that wanted the collector's edition, but didn't get it, I have a few suggestions there as well. You can always sell or trade-in that extra copy of the game. I just want the DLC, statues, booklets, soundtracks and goodies found in some collector's edition.

It's time to save money this holiday season and I hope my guide below saves you some money and time. Dragon Age II High Dragon How to Raip Guide

By: goukijones Mar 22, 2011 | 5 Comments

This video is my third fight with the High Dragon. Every time I type High Dragon, I chuckle a little. Maxed fire resistance, couple of potions and solid team work raips the High Dragon in Dragon Age II.

The High Dragon lol. I didn't expect much of a fight from the "High Dragon" but, this guy was not laid back at all. In fact, the High Dragon should have been called the Crack Dragon, because this Jimmy is carazy! The second fight ended in a glitchy disaster with Varric, you can see video of that in my Dragon Age II Montage. The thrid time, I did a final sweep through all of the shops for any gear that might give me an advantage, but the trick was with the Enchantments. I put Fire Resistant Enchantments on every piece of armor I could, doubling up on a few. Fire Resistance +2100x2 = Raip. As you can see in the video, my squad take absolutely ZERO fire damage. Well Fenris takes a fire ball to the grill at one point, but that only takes off 9 points.

Dragon Age II may be the best experience in front of your television since Red Dead Redemption. This streamlined sequel keeps you in the action constantly. No two play-throughs are alike, but let me tell you about mine. Tips, glitches and broken quests.

Dragon Age II is a different game for everybody. So much will depend on which class you pick at the beginning of the game. So if you pick a knight, then expect to get up front hacking and slashing away at the baddies. If you pick a mage, expect to die a lot. If you pick the rogue, it's either going to be slashing enemies with daggers or sitting back shooting off arrows of fire into a crowd. My point is, don't say it's a hack and slash. There is just as much strategy involved here. Don't pick the knight.

My character was a Rogue Archer and I was going to focus on being a dick. Gettin' paid for quests and killing whoever/whatever got in my way. I had a lot of lesbian sex. Well because I was a female Hawke. Female Shepard FTW! There is an option to import your saved game from Dragon Age Origins, but I nubbed that up and deleted all the info a while back. In DA2 though, I don't understand where any of that would be relevant. There are a couple of references from DAO and you run into Alistair at one point. But Anders and Alistair act like they don't even remember each other, that was weird.

The graphics are amazing. A lot more detail has been put in and the game no longer looks like a PC game on the Xbox or PS3, it looks like a Xbox or PS3 game. There are some absolutely incredible boss fights. The Ancient Rock Wraith is one of the boss fights in the game. (I don't want to be a spoiler.) Be ready for this fight: *Pro-tip - The little Jimmys that protect the Wraith will kill you faster than the Wraith himself. Check out this video. *Spoiler Alert.

Felicia Day, star of "The Guild" is starring in a new web series involving the world of Dragon Age.

Felicia Day has collaborated with BioWare to create a six part web series based on the Dragon Age universe. Day plays Tallis, who according to her "is headstrong, she fights dirty, and she has a really sarcastic sense of humor. I wanted to bring a modern sensibility to a fantasy character in a fantasy world."

The world premiere which is entitled Dragon Age: Redemption will be presented by Day, who also wrote it on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tonight on NBC. Also it is said that a on-the-set-look will be shown on Spike TV Feb 24th.

Day said "I'm a huge Dragon Age fan, and I have been looking for a follow up project to 'The Guild' for quite some time, I was thrilled when the opportunity to work with BioWare materialized. Dragon Age: Redemption allows me to tell a fantasy story in a new way, using a universe I really love. It has been a dream working together."

Co-founder of BioWare had this to say "We are really, really excited to work with people like her who have a passion and appreciation for the content and a really good history of quality, That's who we want to work with."

Day's character Tallis is an Elven assassin who is hired by the Qunari to capture a rogue mage who intends to cause chaos all over Ferelden. On her journey to prevent the mage from putting the world in danger, Tallis bands with a group of companions whose goals and beliefs vary, but they come together to try and defeat the threat imposed by the rogue mage and restore peace.

Dragon Age II is out March 8th so pre-order now. Also be on the look out for Dragon Age: Redemption online soon.

Dragon Age II hands-on SDCC 2010 preview

By: goukijones Aug 1, 2010 | 3 Comments

Exclusive audio clip from the developer Mike Laidlaw chat. My hands-on opinion and a few exclusive pictures.

Dragon Age II hands-on giant poster

So we waited in line to get into a 30 minute discussion about Dragon Age II and a short hands-on demo. The other line was to play Dead Space 2. It looked like the same level we saw at E3. Surprisingly nobody was really interested in the Dead Space 2. We waited in line for Dragon Age II for 1 hour.

Dragon Age II hands-on

While waiting in line, you could walk over and play the NEW DLC for Dragon Age Origins. I did. I didn't know what was happening. It was on PC and I had no idea what the controls were. When I came back into to line I was explaining to BatRastered that I had died, it was the PC version. "No wheel for the spells." I said to him, "like on the Xbox." Craziness. Then this handicap kid(who got to cut us in line) in front of me starts calling me out for not knowing what I was talking about. Completely all up in my conversation with BatRastered. Now he must have misunderstood me or not known which version of the game I was talking about. +1, The kids dad was standing there with him the entire time he berated me. I let the kid finish and I tried to explain to him, that the demo over there is on the PC, and I had never played it on the PC before. He continued to rant on about the spell wheel and that I didn't know what I was talking about and that I sucked. I shoulda took that god damn crutch and wrapped it around his grill. I knew if I did that, I probably wouldn't get a chance to see Dragon Age II that day.

Dragon Age II hands-on. After Mike Laidlaw made his speech, which you can listen to below. I got to sit and play Dragon Age II finally. After waiting almost an hour and a half. Anybody who has seen me play Dragon Age Origins know I do not listen to any of the dialogue, I just skip through it all very fast and then select the most rude or violent option. Plus Mike just demo'd the same exact thing I was playing right now, so I already knew what the characters were talking about it. The space for the demo is really just a demo battlefield. You get to see the new graphics, which for the Dragon Age heads, you will know right away that they are enhanced. Better? Not by much, but improved and enhanced. Irrelevant. The Darkspawn comes over the hill and the pwnn begins. Only 2 people in the party, the main Jimmy and a mage. BTW Mages have finishing moves now with magic, like the soldiers and Assassin's had in the first Dragon Age. Darkspawn come over the hill and I'm pwnn like it was Dragon Age Origins. You have to push the A/X button to attack, that doesn't make it a hack and slash that some Jimmys have reported. It's still the same game. A/X ... the button attacks, it makes sense. You still can switch to the mage on the fly and control the other party members that way. When the dialogue wheel pops up the selections also have an emotion attached to them. So when you say you're gonna kill everything by yourself, the "asshole" emotion is shown with like a color or symbol in the selection.

Now I don't know what everyone else in the room was doing, but I railed that demo in less than 2 minutes. Everything the developer just showed and demo'd in front of us was the same exact thing we got to play. So yeah, I just tested out the combat. I didn't need to hear any talking, I never have in Dragon Age. Never will. Afterward I went up and spoke to Mike Laidlaw, told him who I was and that we wanted to be in contact with their PR department. No response.

Here's a video of the TardClan VS the Nubfarm in an inflatable sword death match.

Regardless Dragon Age II looks very promising. I'm sure if you played the first one, picking up part two should not be an issue. Now how about that audio recording I promised of the developer chat. Don't be a Jimmy!

Dragon Age II hands-on dragon

Electronics Arts will be bringing out the big guns in 2011 with huge sequels. All of these multiplatform games are sure to translate into huge sales. Dragon Age and Mass Effect are both Gouki.com editor's choice. Here's a look at some more EA 2011 games.

Electronic Arts 2011 Preview

Dead Space 2 - I missed out on the Dead Space 1. FNJimmy will be reviewing Dead Space 2. It looks like a Jimmy ass game.

Dragon Age II - Thrilled about another Dragon Age adventure Jimmy. One of my favorite combat systems of all time. A lot of people don't like it, well then FUACK YUU!

Crysis 2 - Wow. What can I say. This is supposed to be the most mind blowing game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This game was demo'd right in front of me at E3 2010. The room was cold as hell. There were 27 PC's trying to run this demo. Afterward my mind was blown.

Mass Effect 3 - Super excited for another Mass Effect adventure. I'm really hoping that ME3 stays more like part 2 mixed with a little more of Part 1. We don't need it reinventing itself again. Bring back the Mako!

SSX Deadly Descents - Some Jimmys are thrilled about this. Me, not so much.

Dragon Age II Montage

By: goukijones Mar 22, 2011 | 4 Comments

Playing Dragon Age type games, like Mass Effect or KOTOR always leads to some shenanigans. I love this genre, because I love fuckin' with every possibility. I recorded a bunch of different clips from mostly the first act. I hope you enjoy it.

The Highlights.

0:05 Female Hawke getting drunk.
0:41 Perfectly Calm.
0:53 Raipin'.
1:22 The Hard One with Isabela.
1:34 Experience the deep story ... (Actual goukijones play style)
2:05 Just strange.
2:18 All girl team. What's up with Merrill?
2:30 Giant dead spider.
2:35 Fuck you, pay me.
2:44 Don't be a Varric! (Do not bring this Jimmy into important fights. He is a nub.)
3:05 Health bar glitch. (Again for the record: Don't be a Varric! Bianca my ass. Pausing the game seemed to get me out of the glitch. Varric must have been drinking a potion when he got knocked down and it never reset.)
4:11 End game raip. (This is all about how my team was wreckin' shop on some regular nuabs omw to fight the bosses. That's right I said bosses, the game is BadAssNice.)
5:00 Fenris takes a friendly fire Bursting Arrow to the chest. Hilarious. I didn't even know friendly fire was possible that way.

And now I would like to present to you ...
