Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Coming This Fall

By: Cinderkin May 24, 2013 | 2 Comments

Tecmo and Team Ninja have announced a new version of Dead or Alive 5. Check it out.

In the same fashion as they have done in the past Tecmo and Team Ninja have announced that this fall Dead or Alive 5 will be released with an Ultimate version.

Sporting new characters Momoji (Ninja Gaiden) and a couple returning characters Ein and Leon (DOA 2) as well as Jacky Bryant (Virtua Fighter). It's also been mentioned that Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will be brining the updates from DOA 5 Plus as well as some new costumes.

Check out the two trailers below:

I for one am a huge Ein fan as he was my main in DOA 2 and was also in DOA 4 so it's nice to see him again. Let's hope that this new version will be DLC for those who already own DOA 5.

Does Dead or Alive 5 live up to expectations?

By: dragonkiss83 Nov 4, 2012 | 1 Comments

Dead or Alive came out in September, but unfortunately right after Borderlands 2. So I did try it for a few hours, but that had been it until today.

Dead or Alive has returned to the Playstaion for the first time in over a decade.  And it has been since 2005 for the Xbox users.  I've been a fan from the begging of the series and have enjoyed every game, except the handhelds.  Naturally I was very excited to get the new one.  And thanks to Gouki.com I was able to have a copy pre-ordered.  Sadly when I first got it I was so hooked on Borderlands 2 I only played for a few hours.  So I waited to do a review until I at least finished the story mode.

When you first jump in to story mode you get a short video of Bayman then it jumps to Zack training with the new MMA girl Mila.  You enter that fight and are given a training mission.  Not really what I was expecting, but I thought it would be okay.  Back to Bayman and a mysterious ninja tears through his team.  You get some more videos and the game is looking great as always.  More videos.  Then you get to a fight between Bass and Rig on the oil rig.  Creative right?  Another training mission.  That is already old.  Tutorials belong in their own section if you ask me.  Another video,  But then you finally get to the timeline screen and the game is ready to start. Kind of.

The timeline adds points as you make it through the story and you can go back and re-watch video or play a fight again if you missed the bonus mission.  Kasumi is selected for you and you get three fights each with a bonus mission.  Now I'm kind of annoyed with the missions being tacked on to the matches,  And not getting to select my character sucks.  Then you get a new chapter, three fights .... rinse ande repeat.  The story starts to jump back and forth and you often end up on the other side of a fight that you already did.  I made it up to Bass, chapter 8 I think, and then I decided to give it a rest.  Playing through the story you unlock Akira and Sarah.

So when I picked it back up I was playing as Bass.  Who has a very unnatural obsession with his daughter.  And he comes out as a masked wrestler "Mr Strong".  Still stuck in the same pattern.  And it makes it hard to get familair with a character when you only get to do three fights then switch.  Jan Lee wind the tournament but the story is not done.  You eventually get to fight as Kasumi against Alpha-152.  But the story is still not over.  When you get to your final fights the character transforms as you fight.  It still doesn't feel like a boss fight though.  After everything is over you get a few of those this isn't over scenes so they can set up DoA 6.

As usual the levels are destructible and have areas you can knock people off, but they have added these more action sequences where the level kind of attacks you.  One of the best examples is a war scene where incomming fire can hit you or your oponent when triggered.  There was stuff like cars that could run you over in the last game, but they wanted it to be bigger.  But I feel like it pulls you out of the game and sometimes takes takes way to long to get back to the fight.

You have your standard online and offline fights, including survival mode, arcade, time attack.  And I've noticed some lag while playing offline and that bothered me.  But going online some of the matches are pretty much unplayable.

You have costumes that you unlock by playing as a character in the offline modes.  And of course there are DLC costumes like the one above for Hayabusa.  Sadly many of them so far are just old costumes or are new but boring.  Add being extremly over-priced and they get worse.  The fist pack was free, but the new ones come out in groups of 3 or you can buy that weeks full bunde for $13.  There are 3 of these already and the game is only a little over a month old.  So if you are going for it to be complete it is going to be expensive.

I feel like the game isn't as fluid as usual, but it could just be being rusty from playing nothing but Borderlands 2.  Overall you get the feeling that something is off.  And it hasn't gone away.  As much as I wanted to love the game I feel let down.  It could just be that my expectations were to high, but I just can't give the game a buy it.  If you are a huge fan you'll want it anyway, if not you will be better off renting it first.

Team Ninja has released 11 new costumes for fan appreciation today. They love us they really love us. Check them out!

Team Ninja posted on Twitter that "As our appreciation to everyone who owns DOA5, we're planning a free DLC so be sure to come back for the latest!" well today is that day. They released 11 free classic costumes for a chunk of the cast. Maybe we will see the rest of the cast too.

Classic Zak from DoA2

Classic Bayman from DoA2

Mila rockin' Tina's DoA1 costume

Christies Alternate in DoA3

There are costumes for Koroko, Helena, Gen Fu, Tina and more.

I hate that Zak always looks like a fool in DoA games. It's unfortunate for the brotha. Be sure to download the free pack on PSN and Xbox Live now. Tell us what you think in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!

Dead or Alive 5 Launch Trailer

By: cinderkin Sep 19, 2012 | 1 Comments

With the release of Dead or Alive 5 next week Tecmo has released a launch trailer. Check it out!

Dead or Alive 5 is out September 25th. Are you picking it up? Let us know in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!

EMPER0RC0W has made quite a few combo videos for the upcoming Dead or Alive 5 game. As before these are of a pre release build of the game.

Another DOA5 combo video this time using Christie. Christie's Style relies heavily on evasive moves in DOA5, not only in defense but in maximizing offensive damage as well. I tried to show how these evasive moves from her new stance (Jakeiho) can be used for extending damage. In addition to the guaranteed setups from sitdown stuns and critical burst, I showed some examples on how you can guarantee followups from her limbo stun (the stun where the opponent arches their back as if they're doing the limbo). These types of stuns cannot be held out of, making them pretty deadly in a hold heavy game like DOA.

Another video demonstrating the combo potential in DOA5, this time using Sarah. In this video I tried to focus on more of her guaranteed setups from 2 in 1 Launchers, to Just frame moves, to sit down stuns, to turn around stuns to critical burst. This should also be interesting to the VF players looking to transition into DOA5 as Sarah's move properties and combo potential in this game are quite different.

Here is a compilation of some Kasumi Combos I came up with on the Gamescom Build of DOA5 (Ver. 0.75) that I managed to record at i46. Weather these combos will remain possible in the final version or not is still unknown (but most likely they will be).

I've always been a fan of Kasumi and Sarah (VF) so these were pretty sweet. What did you think?

EMPER0RC0W has posted a new combo video for Dead or Alive 5 build version 0.75 featuring Bayman one of the few grapple characters in the game.

From YouTube:

In this combo video I thought of showcasing what a grappler can do for a change. Bayman has a lot moves and strings that lead to untechable knockdowns all guaranteeing ground throws. In addition, he has a good selection of Offensive holds (Throws with Hold properties.. beating out strikes) that make his offense quite deadly. In addition to sit down stuns, Bayman also has the ability to cause turn around stuns and Limbo stuns all of which guarantee follow ups.

What do you think about Bayman? Is he one of your favorites? Who is your main character?

Tecmo has released some new shots of Gen Fu and Virtua Fighter Pai. Check them out.

Check out some of the latest screenshots of the highly anticipated Dead or Alive 5.

Here is an action shot

This game is looking better than ever and I can't wait to kick some butt. Are you excited for the next level of Dead or Alive?

Tecmo held a 33 man Dead or Alive 5 tournament for their in office developers. Here is the grand finals match for your enjoyment. Check it out.

These two were the developers of the character balance so they know the game inside and out. Be sure to check out the channel for more matches.

A brand new fighter has been revealed for the upcoming Dead or Alive 5. Check out the video.

Mila is an up-and-coming MMA champion who has scored spectacular victories all over the world. She spends her days training at the gym in between shifts at her part-time job, honing her skills as a lightning fast, orthodox striker with a strong follow-up ground game. Mila also feels intense admiration for a certain fighter, and she has entered the fifth Dead or Alive Tournament to follow her dream of taking on her idol in the ring.

Mila is looking like a "badassnice" character. Not nearly as sexually revealing as the others, but I am looking forward to throwing down with her and Ein (Hayate) in a tag team.

Next month Dead or Alive 5 will be released and too often does the game get a bad rap for having very sexual looking females, but the gameplay has been consistently improving over the years. DoA 5 is no different.

The director of Dead or Alive 5 Yohei Shimbori has been releasing videos of "Top" players going at it in Dead or Alive 5. Straight from the Tecmo Koei's Youtube Page is 3 videos which are shown below.

Up first are two sets of pro using the newly announced Helena vs Lisa. Then after that are a match with Brad Wong vs Elliot. This is a great way to check out the characters and what they can do prior to release.

Lisa vs Helena Round 1

Round 2

Brad Wong vs Elliot

I'm really digging the changes to Helena and Elliot. Dead or Alive 5 is shaping up to be the best in the series. It's a good time to be a DoA fan.

What do you think about the videos? Are you excited for any particular character? Is this your first DoA? tell us what you think in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!

Two More Fighters Revealed for Dead or Alive 5

By: cinderkin Aug 16, 2012 | 3 Comments

Team Ninja and Tecmo has updated their Facebook Page with new screens of the latest character reveals. Brad Wong and Elliot have joined the latest tournament.

First we have Brad Wong, the drunken master whose quest for the lovely drink Genra has come to an end. Still not entirely sure what his motives are this time around in Dead or Alive 5, but I’m sure he will be fun to play.

Up next we have Elliot who if I remember correctly was training under the legendary master Gen-Fu. Still the youngest fighter in Dead or Alive 5 and is back to kick some ass.

Anyone excited to play these two in DoA5? Tell us what you think in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!
