Islands of Wakfu: An Xboxlive arcade game

By: Phresh Feb 2, 2011 | 8 Comments

Islands of Wakfu is an action adventure game based on the Wakfu universe coming to the Xboxlive arcade.

I've been playing the Wakfu beta and upon checking the site, I found out that they have an Xboxlive arcade game currently in development.

Developed by Ankama Play, the game has been in the works for a while but the release date is still to be announced.

Here is the gameplay trailer. It appears you control a Girl named Nora and are assisted by her dragon brother Efrim.

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair updated

By: Arthvader Dec 21, 2010 | 7 Comments

for the better, or worse...

Okay, so i just loaded up Castlevania: Harmony of Despair today and an update has appeared. this update changes quite a bit of balance to the gameplay. After experiencing the changes, I've decided to write down here what changes i noticed. Here's what to expect in this update:

Alucard

- Strength increase
- Damage increase for multiple weapons
- Yasutsuna (or should I say, Alucard's broken spamable weapon) has a slower hit rate
- Spirit magic does more damage
- Decreased MP cost for Hellfire and Dark Metamorphisis?

Charlotte

- Increased the cost of heal to 50MP
- Heal doesn't heal as much, making the astral + skull ring combo not as effective as it used to be
- Charlotte can no longer pass through flames when heal is used

Maria

- Decreased MP cost for all magic
- Slightly faster MP regen
- Increased Hymn damage
- Hymm deals holy damage
- Increased Guardian Knuckle damage

Soma

- Damage increase for some weapons such as the Muramasa
- Beserker Mail no longer increases the amount of damage dealt from offensive souls

Whip Users (Johnathan, Julius, Richter)

- Decreased the MP cost of all sub weapons
- Holy Water damage increased

Yoko

- Decreased MP cost for all magic
- Slightly faster MP regen?
- Holy Flames and Holy Lightning now also deal holy damage

General Changes

- Skeletons (dead players) can now backdash and slide
- Skeletons can receive loot from boss chests
- You can self fail a run by holding LB+RB+A+B+X+Y together for 2 or 3 seconds
- Players can join a room any time while in the lobby
- When searching for custom games you can now also search for the difficulty and chapter
- Robe Decollete had a stats increase and also grants faster MP regen, making it superior to Death's Robe
- Enemies deal more damage than before
- Miser Ring can now be found on Chapter 7
- Latency bar in the lobby actually works now
- Dual Crushes deal more damage

X-men Arcade out now!

By: Cinderkin Dec 15, 2010 | 14 Comments

The classic 1992 X-Men Arcade by Konami is finally made it's return. Out Now on XBLA and PSN. Go and Save the City!

It's finally here, one of my favorite arcade games growing up. I can't wait to smash some Sentinal ass. 4 player local co-op, and 6 player online drop in drop out co-op

The best part is that it's only 800 MSP or $10 PSN. Lately all the games I really want have been $15 or more.

Go and Save the City! Welcom to Die!

Tell us what you think in the comments. Don't be a Jimmy!

See you online! (I'm Cyclops or I'll kill you) I've got my EYE on you ;)

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game: The Review

By: BatRastered Sep 18, 2010 | 6 Comments

The movie was great. Is the game worth your 10 bucks?

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game attempts to be a nostalgic throw back to the final fight/river city ransom days of side scrolling beat-em-ups. Truth is, I'm not that nostalgic for those days. True, the graphics and sound effects are a neat touch, but the game play is just not that much fun. You can level up to get new moves and what not, but it's just not that engaging. I didn't get the same sense of humor that I got from the movie. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a movie tie in game is bad, but I thought this would be different given the movie we're talking about has so many classic video game references in it. I'm glad this game was only 10 bucks, but I'd be even happier if I'd just downloaded the demo.

Verdict: Rent It. (in this case, download the demo)

MS launches XBOX live rewards program

By: BatRastered Dec 1, 2010 | 13 Comments

Earn points you can use to buy more games or DLC

Sign up at

http://rewards.xbox.com/

I bet you can't wait to earn 25 cents per month by taking a survey! WTF are these points jimmy?

I'm not sure if the points you get for renewing count towards card purchases or only online renewals at this point. It works just as well as any other feature on xbox.com these days, which is to say not very well. I can't get to the page with the points list anymore because I already signed up.  Good work MS.

US and UK only, so you Canadian Jimmys are out of luck!

Shank review

By: BatRastered Oct 4, 2010 | 6 Comments

Shank is a stylish 2-d hack em up that is a lot of fun

Shank has stylish 2-d graphics that will remind you of Samurai Jack. There is also a great deal of blood and gore, and many fun ways to dispatch your foes (pop a live grenade in their mouth!). All the animations are great. The weapons are not that varied, but each has it's own unique uses. Fighting the bigger enemies and the bosses are a ton of fun as it's a mix of the beat-em-up style and quick time events and they're all awesome. The story doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it's still ok and the cinematic cut-scenes are fun to watch. I loved racking up 100+ hit combos on the waves of goons that wanted to get me.

It's an XBL/PSN game so it's 1200 MSP ($14.99) and a decent value, as you may replay a bit to get higher combos and unlock costumes and such. If you're looking to play something in between major game releases, this is a good bet.

Verdict: Buy it

Cinderkin found this game, Full House Poker tucked away in the corner of the Microsoft Booth at CES 2011. What the hell is this game?

Microsoft's booth was pretty quiet game wise. Halo Reach was there, something else I didn't really care about and can't even remember now. I just know I was extremely bored and wasn't there for really long. I couldn't wait to get out. Then I saw Cinderkin up agianst the back wall jammed between two televisions, squatting, looking through some narrow passage. A few minutes later when he caught up to me I asked him WTF?! He told me, he found this game called Full House Poker for your Xbox 360 Avatar. My reply ... Nubfarm. Here's the video.

Shadow complex review

By: BatRastered Sep 17, 2009 | 4 Comments

A quick review of Shadow Complex for the XBox 360 Arcade

This game reminds me so much of Super Metroid (SNES), it's unreal. Get it? Cause it's made with the Unreal engine... eh... tough crowd.

Anyway, for 1200 MS points (that's 15 bucks, American) you will get about 5-8 hours of story mode game play the first time through. More towards 8 if you strive for 100% completion. You will almost certainly want to play through a second time (either to see what you missed or to try to beat it with under 13% of the items for an achievement).

There are a ton of hidden rooms and power ups that will keep you searching every nook and cranny for hours. If you do happen to grab every power up, you will feel like an invincible badass (because you will be, practically). Truly, every powerup is extremely satisfying and they come at a rapid pace.

There are also several challenge maps (again with an achievement for beating them all) that allow you to pit your best times up against your friends (or the XBL community at large).

If you have an Xbox 360 and a gold membership and a spare 1200 points, there is no better way to spend those points right now. (Especially if you loved Super Metroid or Castlevania).
