So some of us was excited for Dead Island before release, No? Well I was and it turned out to be a pretty shitty game, that was before I looked at character builds that make this game actual fun.. Yes Dead Island is actually fun, can you imagine? 

So the last week I've been playing as the top hat sporting power house/rapper Sam B. Some people online have no idea how Sam should be played and opt for the machine gun approach, not in this build. On Wednesday, January 16, Goukijones, Batrasterd, and I went and took on the raid boss of Mr. Tourge's Campaign of Carnage, Pete the Invincible. During the course of this particular fight, though, we ended up getting Pete into a spot where he essentially got stuck, allowing us to defeat him without much issue.

Borderlands 2 Axton the Commando build guide

Axton has quickly moved up my list of favorite characters in BL2, his turret action skill is quite good on its own, but with the right skills and weapons you can do the work of two players by yourself.

First the Survival Tree, I'm not a big fan of this.

You can see the relative offensive weakness of this build at about 4:45 in the video I throw a turret on each side of a basic loader, and I still have to kill it myself. I don't recommend the turret without the rocket pods. :) If you had 3 more points you could get the Scorched Earth rocket pods too. So with the 11 levels coming April 2, that's what I'd suggest first. If I did this over, I'd probably go with the rockets over the longbow just for the damage boost, but mag-lock without longbow is not very useful and Battlefront (extra damage when the turret is out for all your guns and grenades) is just so damn useful that I can't really recommend either version of this build unless you get the level cap DLC and get all 3 this build falls apart.

Now the Guerilla tree, the fun starts to pick up.

This is a good damage build with decent survivability. It allows the turret to slag, which is useful and will be even better in the upcoming third play through. The turret also has rocket pods and a shield. As far as Axton himself, he gets to carry 5 extra grenades and his shield will be recharging quickly most of the time. This is a good build that will only get better with the 11 new levels, allowing you to either add longbow and battlefront or get the twin Gemini turrets. Very versatile.

Finally we get to Gunpowder. NUKE!

This build is a great all around build as well, you still get the rocket pods from Guerilla and a good amount of defense, but you get a ton of DPS both from your nuke turret (basically an awesome, rechargeable grenade) and the use of the Battlefront skill. You'll note the Kerblaster assault rifle in the video shoots a projectile that explodes, drops a grenade and explodes again. This works with all the grenade damage boost skills too so this is my current favorite high DPS build. With 11 more skill points you can reach the slag turret too (double up, at the bottom of Guerilla tree) which will make this build very useful for the third play through. Also, nuking things is fun. :)

X-men Arcade Review!

If I could describe the X-men Arcade game in one word it would be Disappointment.

Why you ask? Well I'll tell you why. I fondly remember going to the Arcade in San Diego California as a kid. Playing all sorts of games, blowing my hard earned money on good games, bad games, broken games (still pissed about those) and the best arcade games around. Back in the early '90s the top arcade games for me where the Beat 'Em Ups. The Simpsons Game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and who could forget the X-men Arcade game. Many of us had the 4-player cabinets in our local arcades, but some of us where lucky enough to have 6-player action at our fingertips... and just for a quarter (I miss those days).


I would spend hours beyond hours every week playing the X-men Arcade game. Meeting new people every time and having a blast. So I was stoked to find out that Konami was bringing this childhood classic back. At 800 MSP or $10 PSN I was sold. I bought this baby yesterday and to my surprise I was severely disappointed.

The game is exactly as I remember it, which is the problem. After 18 years I was expecting Konami to release an updated version, not just a smoothing filter. I wanted to have a remade X-men Arcade with updated sounds, graphics, and gameplay. Now I am not the person who hates the classics, or thinks they aren’t fun. My problem is that they could have had two games in one. X-men Arcade Classic, and a revamped version as well.

You have the choice between two version of X-men Arcade, USA and Japan. The Japanese version is better than the USA version solely because when you use a Mutant Power in the USA version it drains your life meter before using your energy orb. The Japanese version is the other way around. The USA version is much more difficult which would be a great challenge had the game had some sort of continue system. Instead you have unlimited lives, and can basically just spam Mutant Powers the entire time. Sure they take away your life energy, but who cares you can’t lose. Even online play has infinite continues. There is no way to change it either. So basically unless you’re like me and really want to try and relive the classic, you’ll try not to spam Mutant Powers.

My first play through was solo, and I beat it in 30 minutes. I spent $10 only to be jerked around for 30 minutes. This game welcomed me to die alright; I wanted to end my life and the game after playing it. The character selection is how you remember it, you can choose from; Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Night Crawler, and The Dazzler (yes she is a real X-men) each character has his/her own Mutant Power. Cyclops shoots laser beams from his eyes, Storm strikes her enemies with lightning, Wolverine slashes his claws at his enemies (lamest Mutant Power), Colossus goes into rage and destroys enemies surrounding him, Night Crawler teleports across the screen and destroys anyone in his path, and The Dazzler who uses sound frequencies to destroy her enemies.

For the most part of the game you are fighting your way through sentinel after sentinel with a few other enemies here and there. There are also eight boss characters, Pyro, Blob, Wendigo, Nimrod, The White Queen, Juggernaut, Mystique and of course Magneto. Each boss is basically a push over save Magneto. As one falls after another you move onto a new level. The story of this game is basically Magneto threatens the city with his army of sentinels and Kidnaps Professor X and Kitty Pryde. It’s up to the X-men to Go and Save the City as well as rescue X and Kitty.

It’s a pretty simple game, only using 3 buttons; Attack, Jump, and Mutant Power, which makes for an easy to pick up and play game. Online play is done well, with the option of playing 6-player drop in drop out co-op with relatively no lag. The only issue here is even on expert difficulty, 6 players can run through the game in under 15 minutes. It’s really hard to suggest spending $10 for such a short time of play.

While the X-men Arcade game is still a great classic in my heart, this new version is just plagued with not adding anything new to the game in 18 years. I had fun playing it, but I think it’s a waste of $10 Jimmys. Buy it if you’re a huge fan and have to get your hands on it, but for the rest of you out there just Demo it

SFxT The Good, The Bad, and the Gutter Trash. Review from GoukiJones.

Street Fighter X Tekken has 19 Street Fighters including Street Fighter Alpha classic Rolento, Street Fighter III's big German Hugo and his partner in crime from back in the Final Fight days, Poison. It's a man baby. Tekken has 19 characters as well, but I'm sorry I can't tell you from which Tekken game in the series they come from. I played the crap out of Tekken 2, one of my favorite games of all time, I had it memorized completely, I knew the 10 hits for every character and King was my favorite. That's all I got to say about my history with Tekken.

Let me begin with the Tekken characters in SFxT. The Tekken characters are my favorite part of the game. I wanted to try Poison of course. I didn't like using her or him. My bad. Rolento I banned personally because FGC was already saying he was top tier and over-powered. So I figured I didn't want use a character that EVERYONE else was going to be using. King was in for sure, I love the grappling. King and Hugo that was my Dream Team when I first saw the entire roster. Hugo is one of my guys in SFIII I liked to use and he is another grappler so I figured they would be cool together. I used Hugo for the first day and dropped him. I switched to Lili who I now I officially second main. Does that make sense? [smh] I tried to use Hugo again after I saw some PWNn with him at a tournament. I couldn't replicate a thing I saw in that tournament. So back to Lili.

Playing with King is super fun. Although Tekken vintage 10 hit combos are absent -I don't know why- King still has a lot grabs and his super can be modified. Remember his chain throwing? Yeah there's only one option for that during his super. He also has a rising knee, which is up-forward and medium kick. Timed properly you can chain some amazing combos. He has unblockable grabs whether your opponent is standing our crouching also a Moonsault that is super slow, but could be a good mix-up. With Lili I'm still learning her basics and what to do with her. I enjoy learning these new characters and  the "Street Fighter style" Tekken characters came out really nice.

As far as the Street Fighter characters go, it's a lot like SF4. If somebody was really good with Abel in SF4, they will be really good with Abel in SFxT. That aspect of the game doesn't thrill me at all, because I am terrible at SF4 and don't play it. Cammy is my main, but she is "free" most of the time. I tried Guile once in SFxT, but again, I don't like him in SF4 and I don't like him in SFxT. So in Street Fighter X Tekken I use two Tekken characters. King and Lili.

Playing online sucks. More so if you're a 360 user. Xbox 360 straight up does not have the same features as the PS3. Local co-op does not work on the Xbox 360. Local co-op or couch play is when you and your buddy play together online, at the same time, in the same room, on the same Xbox 360. Something we've experienced since Halo 2. Capcom has said 2 things about this.

"PS3 version: It is possible to mix and match online and offline players for scramble battles and pair play battles. Two local players can play on the same PS3 using 1 PSN ID, and play against other players online.

360 version: It is NOT possible to mix and match online and offline players for scramble battles and pair play battles. So you either have to have all players be offline and local (so 4 players, 1 Xbox) or have all the players be online (4 players, 4 Xboxes)."

I don't know which of the 2 are worse. "It is NOT possible to mix and match online and offline players." Halo 2.

The second reason says they just didn't have enough time. Nothing to do with not knowing how. I'll tell you one thing, Capcom had plenty of time and the know how of how to put a bunch of extra content on the disk that they would entend to charge us for later. So the online co-op plus the 5 exclusive characters, make the PS3 version VERY different from the Xbox version. Xbox users got gaffled this time.

Okay you don't have any friends and just play online by yourself. WARNING: the sound cuts in and out during some fights online. I noticed this when I first got it out of the box and played it for 21:07 minutes. It's a bigger deal then some might think. There are plenty of sound cues in fighting games. All of the sudden a fireball is floating across the screen. Yeah yeah, you can SEE IT, but have you SEEN some of the levels in SFxT? More on that below. So the sound issue is a little frustrating. Connection otherwise seems to be fine for the most part, unless you are fighting Arthvader.

At home with a group of friends is another story. Street Fighter X Tekken shines with 4 people in the same room, teamed up and fighting against each other. Minus the 100+ timeout endings, just waiting to be tagged in is extremely thrilling. We've played quite a few hours like this. During our most recent session we tried the scramble battle. What the fuck is happening during this? It's super fun and I could only hope that all Capcom fighting games in the future have a similar mode. Scramble mode is 2v2, everybody in at the same time. Just like a Tornado Tag Team match for my WWE marks. Or if you're old (also like me) like Ryu & Ken VS Bison from the alpha days, but Bison has a partner too. This a great group/party fighting game.

There are still a few things I don't like about SFxT. A lot of this game comes off as experimental. Like Capcom just wanted to try out a bunch of different things to see how the FGC would react. The stages for example are extravagant. A little too extravagant. If you thought UMvC3 backgrounds were flashy and have too much going on, the SFxT stages are far more out of control. In Ultimate I feel some sort of separation from the stages and my characters. In SFxT, the graphics, lighting and 3D characters in a 2D/3D environment blend perfectly. A little too perfectly. (winkface) There are some stages that we have already completely banned. The Pandora stage, with the colliding mammoths in the background -Which makes a noise when they hit, remember I mentioned noise cues earlier? You can't hear the jets flying by on Shield heli-carrier.- in round 3 on the Pandora level, Jacks and armored trucks and T-Rex's is flying around all through the background. It's bananaz. Yeah, I can't deal with that. Pit Stop 69 is also banned. By round 3 on that stage it's so dark you can't even see some characters. BatRastered says "All I see is black."

Some of our favorite levels are the Half Pipe. Can anyone tell me who the four Bison girls are on that bill board? That's a pretty simple level, the colors are normal and there isn't a bunch shit distracting you in the background. Mishima Estate makes noise, but this is because your character is stepping on roof tiles. This is actually pretty cool, stepping sound effects on different types of flooring is a cool feature for fighting games. Quick shout out to the Mad Gear Hideout. So I can stop talking about the stages, I'd like to just say to Capcom that we need more options for more laid back levels. Nothing happens on the training stage I know, but what happened to the grass fields or the sky scrapper roof tops? Keep some of them simple.

Gems what the fuck? Seriously? I didn't know what the FGC was going to think of this. My rule is, if you make something for your game and it's banned at EVO and other FGC tournaments, then you fail. It's a waste and nobody will care. It will kill your game. Like Mortal Kombat. Which I'm surprised enough people are still playing it for it to get a nod at EVO. Back to the gems deal and EVO. If the gems aren't allowed at EVO then they will have failed. The least I can see EVO doing is allowing people to choose gems from the default list. All the special edition and DLC gems will not be allowed. Which will still fall under my category of FAIL.

The gems are cool and I like the idea of having a little strategy there. Ono said this also brings to the table that Ryu VS Ryu could be completely different because of gem selection. Yeah that's a great idea ... for Darkstalkers. J/K. I mentioned earlier, SFxT could be full of experiments. The gems just aren't practical.

Now that I've blithered and blathered for some time about my experience with SFxT this last couple of weeks, lets get down to brass tacks.

  • Street Fighter X Tekken looks amazing.
  • Plays a lot like Street Fighter IV.
  • Has something very unique with the Tekken characters fighting styles in Street Fighter type gameplay.
  • Great features such as 4 people playing at the same time in a 2v2 tag situation or a 2v2 4 characters on the screen at once.
  • Tons of great characters and even more to come with DLC.

So don't be a mad when I give Street Fighter X Tekken Rent it! Especially if your only option is to get it for Xbox 360. Playstation has 5 more characters and you can play locally with your son, friend or for some of you extremely lucky Jimmys, your girlfriend/wife. So it could possibly be a Buy it! on PS3. But still, hard to tell if this game will be around next year errr what I want to say is EVO 2013. Ultimate will, SFIV will.

Try it before you buy it.

Playable Boss Characters

Over the years, developers have allowed the gamers to play as boss characters from time to time in video games. Is it a good idea? Boss characters usually have a clear advantage over normal characters. Well, let's take a look.

What was the first boss character you were able to play in a video game? Was it a fighting game? An RPG, a racing game? For me, it was Goro of Mortal Kombat 4.

 

It was really the first time where I felt like had greater power for wielding a character of such magnitude. Goro!? The 4 armed fighter of Mortal Kombat? This was too good to pass up. But as later releases came out, even Shao Kahn was playable. How rediculous is that? A powerful emperor to be playable, can you say spam selection?

 

More and more games would eventually allow boss characters to be played. Street fighter is a prime example. Vega, Balrog, Sagat, and M. Bison, would be playable characters even before Goro and Shao Kahn. Bowser from The Super Mario became available to play in Super Smash Bros Melee, I remember how cool we all thought that was going to be xD But are developers doing the right call when it comes to making boss characters playable? They spend a great amount of time coming up with menacing ideas to hype up a boss character, regardless of that character's alignment. Fighting a boss character usually means he has very distinct advantages over most of the characters in the game. Normally, greater damage output, higher defense, more health, and a grand arsenal of abilities that you normally have to develope a strategy for. So what happens when they make that character playable? They tone that character down, nerfing his abilities. Of course right? Balance is what developers want when it comes to competition, but at the same time it almost diminishes the boss character's status. The near fear of fighting a boss character is reduced when playing against a human opponent because one knows the boss character's abilities have been toned own. In the end it comes down to player skill to really win the match.

But then again, who wouldn't want to play with a boss character, some of these characters' aesthetics are really detailed and elaborate. They just look damn cool. And over the years, developers recieved great amounts of fan mail requesting that boss characters become playable. So the developers did just that, but they needed a formula for a boss to be playable, powerful, but not broken. And in the mist of their creation, 2 versions of boss characters were created. One for competition and players, the other for challenging through the story, campaign, or arcade, depending on what game you played. Sometimes however, there were other powerful characters in a game, Secret Characters. These characters would clearly have advantages over many of the normal characters in a game. Faster and and more resilient, secret characters would share properties of normal characters to keep them balanced, sometimes playing the role of a long lost character or new character all together. Discovering the movesets or abilitites of these characters and how to use them to win is the main purpose of secret characters.

One of my personal secret characters was  Mewtwo of Melee. Sure, it was discovered that his abilities in the game weren't as great as say, Fox xD But Mewtwo was still considered to be powerful, why? Because he was Mewtwo, the incredibly powerful pokemon we all abused in Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Ruby, Saphire, Emerald, Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, White, Black................oh wait, we're STILL abusing him. Mewtwo will always be one of y favorite characters for his awesome power.

 

Boss characters play an essential role in replability as well. Players enjoy becoming better in the games they play, but being able to play as the malicious boss character they just defeated and now earned the right to play as, with their own skill, is just simply put grand. There are, however, characters that have never been actually been truly enjoyed as playable boss characters. One such example is Sephiroth of Final Fantasy 7. Although Sephiroth was actually playable the games called Ehrgiez and the Itadaki Street series, has not been seen in any recent fighting games. Personally, I'd love to see Sephiroth and Cloud in Soul Calibur 5.

 

In conclusion, as of now there are many boss characters that have come to have great success in many games alike. It was a bit risky for developers, but they mangaged to pull them off. Among my favorite boss characters of all time are Algol of Soul Calibur 4 and Oni of Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. Borderlands 2 How to kill a GOD-Liath Goon (Dahl Red Chest) Plus Purple Drops

I caught me a GOD-Liath Goon Jimmy. He drops better things than what are in his chest. Plus, did I mention he is hilarious? Mr. Satan 2012.

American Dragon Ball Z fans, yes! That is Mr. Satan you are hearing. That voice is hilarious. Listening to what the Goliath would say is what got me into hunting them. Here's what happened when I found a Loot Goon Goliath.

At the end I mistake the wrong class mod. What the GOD-liath Goon actually dropped was:

  • Explosive Damage Resist +20%
  • +3 Impact Skill
  • +2 Steady Skill
  • +2 Grenadier

I was a little excited when this all went down & didn't sort it right at the end. Like a Jimmy! Anyway. The part where he was stuck, is a little place where you can fall thru. I did that hoping he would follow & I could lead him toward more things to fight. He never dropped down, he just got stuck there. That's where the video starts with me walking back up to him.

Epic getting sued for Loot Crates

I have over 425+ days logged in.

As some of you may know GrrrtyGirl aka MsSugarNinja and I have been playing Save the World every day for the last year plus.  We have never paid for a loot crate because we thought we needed it to level up.  Today a lawsuit was filed...

"The scheme plays out perfectly to the benefit of Epic: once players are sufficiently invested in the game, Epic induces players to purchase loot boxes in order to get better loot, which results in massive revenue to Epic."

I'm just saying there is no way this will fly.  Epic added X-ray loot crates in January.  So you can see what you are getting out of the Llamas.  Good and bad I guess.  You never have to take a chance, but you always know what's in there.  So no surprise there.

Plus you can earn V-Bucks by just playing Save the World.  So if this kid was even playing the game he wouldn't be having an issue.  As far as the parents go... clueless. Nubfarm.
