Battleborn delayed until May

By: BatRastered Nov 9, 2015 | 1 Comments

Prev Feb 9, now May 3

Battleborn just wrapped up its closed technical test. It seems Gearbox wants more time to polish the game up based on what they've learned.

"We at Gearbox are feeling energized by the data of our Closed Technical Test, and the additional time will allow us to better act on the feedback for Battleborn competitive and cooperative play when it releases.  We sincerely appreciate your patience as we work tirelessly on Battleborn. We look forward to sharing the Open Beta with everyone next year."

Previously scheduled for Feb 9, 2016, Battleborn will now ship out May 3, 2016.

Spec Ops: The Line E3 closed-door preview

By: BatRastered Jun 15, 2010 | 0 Comments

A couple of jimmys got a behind closed doors demo of 2K's new squad based 3rd person shooter...

Spec Ops: The Line was demoed for us today, here's some initial thoughts.

The game takes place in near-future Dubai that has been covered meters deep in sand and nearly abandoned. The unique setting provides some great opportunities for spectacular level design. We only saw half a level, so I can't say if the game will live up to that promise, but the visuals I did see were quite good especially considering that this was a very early build (The Line is scheduled for a 2011 release). With the arterial spatter and the corpses being devoured by crows, this is an M-rated title for sure.

The sand plays an important role, as it allows you to use the environment to your advantage, either by destroying a wall and dumping tons of sand (tons!) on your enemies or blowing up a window allowing sand into the building you are trying to find a way out of and using said sand as stairs.

You play as the captain and roll with two jimmys beside you that you can issue commands to, but the AI seems to do pretty well on its own already. This is where the biggest dissapointment came in; even though this is a squad based shooter, there will be no co-op in the campaign. (Though there will be a separate co-op "experience" that the developers were not ready to take the wraps off of yet.) Seriously though, I know not every game can be co-op through the story, but a squad based shooter is just such a natural fit for that, I guess I just expect it now and am dissapointed when I don't see it.

Stay tuned as this game gets closer to release, I see some potential here if the multiplayer comes through.

Borderlands Review

By: goukijones Oct 24, 2009 | 7 Comments

Leveling up and shooting Jimmys in the face is a perfect match for me.

After only sitting down to play this game only 3 times, I've already logged over 20 hours and have leveled up to 25. When the game says it has a bazillion guns it's not joking, almost every character carries a different gun and every time you open a treasure chest it has new guns that entire party scrambles to get a glimpse of.

Yeah the party Jimmy. This a four player co-op RPS, RPS means Role playing shooter. It's something new. Kind of like something people were asking for after playing Fallout 3 for a little while. Where is the co-op? Here it is in Borderlands.

The setting here is a distant planet named Pandora. More like a Mad Max type world than a "Capital Wasteland." The graphics are cel-shaded, yes Jimmys are still making cel-shaded games. The game looks cool, the graphics don't really make a huge difference for me. The gunplay is spot on, the menu takes a little getting used to and the driving takes some practice.

I'm really enjoying this game and I look forward to playing it. It's super fun and really ... any game that's multiplayer that has a solid party system that is easy to use and most importantly FUN. My final verdict here is an easy choice.

This a Buy Jimmy!

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel announced

By: BatRastered Apr 9, 2014 | 3 Comments

A sequel to the first game and a prequel to the second game = pre-sequel. Playable claptrap and we finally get an ice element!

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place between the first and second games in the series. Witness Handsome Jack's rise to power as you play as Athena, Wilhelm, The Sheriff, or Claptrap.

So it looks like Borderlands is not immune to the "ship it off to another studio for a quick follow up while you work on the next-next version" disease. Obviously I'm not a fan of this, but the stuff in the video looks alright and it's on PC so it's next-gen for me. No love for PS4/XBone users is a surprise though.

The game will be released "later" in 2014.

Bioshock 2 Limited Edition looks like garbage

By: goukijones Nov 20, 2009 | 8 Comments

Are you serious?! For $99.99?! The price must be wrong. There's no way Jimmy!

So just announced today the details for the Bioshock 2 Limited Edition. No bobbleheads, no scale versions of any of the guns.

Here's what you get ...

The Game

A 12" Vinyl LP (an old record for you youngsters out there) Something you can't actually play or use.

An audio CD of the soundtrack

Three posters from rapture

An art book (hardcover)

Bioshock 2 Limited Edition

All this for $99.99! WHAT?! What justifies that? For example the Mass Effect 2 limited edition is $69.99, comes with the game, a hardcover book, a bonus dvd and other bonus content for the game. For only an extra 10 bucks, I will get the Mass Effect 2 limited edtion. As far as Bioshock 2, goes pre-order the regular version now for $53.99 and get a $10.00 credit toward a future video game purchase. Now that's a deal Jimmy!

Oh boy, more stuff to gather.

Did you like Borderlands? I did. It's one of my favorites.

Did you like Borderlands 2? I did for a while. It was fun leveling up and through the first two playthroughs. The later added third playthough was a chore though and lessened the fun for me. The only DLC I enjoyed was the D&D inspired Tiny Tina one and that was mostly for the story as the guns were crap. BL2 had some serious issues with loot, as in not giving it out, and not having the same variety and overpowered fun feel of the first. Also many of the guns used 2, 4, or even 6 bullets per shot which really hurt ammo management, forcing you to scour every box and other lootable item in the game just to keep firing. But it's still a worthwhile game if you can get it cheap with all DLC included.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place chronologically in between the two games (hence the odd title), but make no mistake, this is BL2's engine.
